Sat, 05 Apr 2014 20:37:25 -0700
Kansas City Chiefs WR Donnie Avery is still listed as a starter, but it remains to be seen whether he will remain as a starter or even make the team. The team has high hopes for WR A.J. Jenkins, who could potentially take away some of Avery's playing time if Jenkins develops. The team also plans to draft at least one receiver, and if he is ready to help right away, Avery might be released.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 17 against the San Diego Chargers. WR Junior Hemingway is Bowe's backup, but WR A.J. Jenkins could also see some targets as a result of Bowe's absence.
Thu, 26 Dec 2013 17:27:14 -0800
Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe (concussion) probably will not play Week 17 because of his concussion.
Fantasy Tip: Bowe's extra snaps could go to Junior Hemingway and A.J. Jenkins, but they are stretches to help you win a fantasy championship in Week 17.

Tue, 20 Aug 2013 21:52:58 -0700
Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith was the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers last year when they drafted WR A.J. Jenkins in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. The deal to acquire Jenkins wasn't Smith's, but the management did ask the signal caller for his input. "We talked to Alex," head coach Andy Reid said Tuesday, Aug. 20. "Alex was very positive about it."
Mon, 19 Aug 2013 09:23:34 -0700
The San Francisco 49ers acquired WR Jonathan Baldwin from the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, Aug. 19, in exchange for WR A.J. Jenkins.
Fantasy Tip: Baldwin has plenty of physical talent at the wideout position, but he just never put it all together with KC. He'll have a new opportunity with San Francisco, and they are desperately looking for someone to step up to help out Anquan Boldin as the main receiver with Michael Crabtree (Achilles') possibly lost for the entire season. Baldwin remains intriguing as late-round wide receiver depth.
Mon, 19 Aug 2013 09:20:36 -0700
The Kansas City Chiefs acquired WR A.J. Jenkins from the San Francisco 49ers Monday, Aug. 19, in exchange for WR Jonathan Baldwin.
Fantasy Tip: Jenkins wasn't impressing the Niners in his effort to replace Michael Crabtree (Achilles') as a main receiving threat opposite Anquan Boldin. He'll likely have less of a chance to make an impact in KC, but it is a new start, so don't overlook that opportunity. He'll have to compete with Donnie Avery and Dexter McCluster. Jenkins might be worth a late-round flier if he picks up the offense quickly and impresses in the final two weeks of the preseason.
Sat, 17 Aug 2013 08:59:29 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins played most of the first half in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 16, but did not catch a pass because he was being covered by Kansas City Chiefs CB Sean Smith. Jenkins did catch a 21-yard pass but it was nullified by a penalty.
Fri, 16 Aug 2013 14:34:51 -0700

Fri, 09 Aug 2013 12:33:58 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins said he will not worry about the fumble he lost during the team's first preseason game. "Hopefully, I've made some strides," Jenkins said. "It's the first preseason game. We have three more games left. It's a long year. No need to panic and get all discouraged. Just got to keep watching film."
Sun, 04 Aug 2013 23:27:46 -0700
The San Francisco 49ers had three injured wide receivers back on the practice field Sunday, Aug. 4. WR's A.J. Jenkins (hamstring), Kassim Osgood (leg) and Kyle Williams (hamstring) all returned to the field, and all three are candidates to start opposite WR Anquan Boldin.

Tue, 30 Jul 2013 11:04:14 -0700

Mon, 29 Jul 2013 15:37:01 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins has not distinguished himself as the team's No. 2 wide receiver during training camp.
Fri, 26 Jul 2013 13:22:42 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WR Mario Manningham (knee) is roughly a month away from returning to action on the field, and the competition behind WR Anquan Boldin will be furious. WRs Kyle Williams, Ricardo Lockette, A.J. Jenkins, Quinton Patton and Marlon Moore will be looking to step up in the absence of WR Michael Crabtree (Achilles').
Fantasy Tip: Other than Manningham, who is a big question mark, the Niners have a cast of unproven wideouts to help out Boldin in the receiving game. Williams, Jenkins and Patton figure to have the greatest chance of locking down the No. 2 spot, and all three will be end-game gambles in deep leagues in drafts. The absense of a proven receive might benefit Vernon Davis the most.
Thu, 25 Jul 2013 18:45:31 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins spent most of his time with the first-team offense during practice Thursday, July 25.
Mon, 22 Jul 2013 21:00:58 -0700
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh was upbeat about WRs A.J. Jenkins, Quinton Patton and Ricardo Lockette, who will line up at split end to compete for WR Michael Crabtree's (Achilles') starting job while he is out injured. "I feel like they're making a lot of progress," Harbaugh said. "I feel good about where that stands right now. Continued competition will continue to be good for our team and those youngsters."
Sun, 21 Jul 2013 17:13:11 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WR Quinton Patton has as good a shot as any of his competition, which is believed to include WRs A.J. Jenkins and Ricardo Lockette, for the No. 2 wide receiver job behind WR Anquan Boldin. Patton has good athletic ability, size and speed, as well as energy and eagerness.
Fantasy Tip: The rookie is worth a look as a late-round flier in early fantasy drafts, and he could be a very nice sleeper if he has a strong training camp and preseason. Patton will be working to beat out former first-rounder A.J. Jenkins and Ricardo Lockette for the No. 2 job.
Sun, 21 Jul 2013 17:11:11 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins is among the group of receivers expected to challenge for a starting job opposite WR Anquan Boldin during training camp and the preseason. Jenkins reportedly is stronger and looked more confident during spring workouts.
Fri, 21 Jun 2013 15:47:58 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins appears to have a slight edge over WRs Quinton Patton and Ricardo Lockette for one of the starting wide receiver jobs entering training camp.
Mon, 17 Jun 2013 10:11:11 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams is the pre-training camp favorite for the "X" wide receiver spot, ahead of A.J. Jenkins, who holds the slot advantage, and others.
Fantasy Tip: Don't expect that to translate into consistent fantasy production, as sleeper candidates Jenkins, Ricardo Lockette and Quinton Patton should have a say in targets with Michael Crabtree (Achilles') on the sidelines.
Tue, 11 Jun 2013 20:12:11 -0700
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh praised WR A.J. Jenkins Tuesday, June 11, for his work so far this offseason. "A.J. had his best week of football since he's been a 49ers the last four days of OTAs," Harbaugh said.
Fantasy Tip: Jenkins is competing for the starting wide receiver job opposite WR Anquan Boldin during the offseason and training camp. He could be a solid No. 4 fantasy wideout if he is able to win the starting job.
Tue, 28 May 2013 18:02:20 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WRs Chad Hall and A.J. Jenkins worked with WR Anquan Boldin during the two-minute drill at organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, May 28. So far, however, WRs Ricardo Lockette, Marlon Moore and Quinton Patton have also rotated with Hall and Jenkins during drills, and no one receiver appears to be getting the lion's share of reps opposite Boldin, as the jobs behind the veteran are viewed as wide open.
Fri, 24 May 2013 12:32:28 -0700
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said WRs A.J. Jenkins, Quinton Patton and Ricardo Lockette will compete for the vacant starting wide receiver job during offseason workouts.
Fantasy Tip: All three will have the chance to win the starting job and see an increase in their fantasy value. Jenkins and Patton likely should be considered late-round options in drafts this season. Owners should monitor Lockette's role leading up to their drafts since he could be worthy of a late-round pick in very deep leagues.
Wed, 22 May 2013 17:12:45 -0700
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said the team isn't considering re-signing WR Randy Moss after learning that WR Michael Crabtree (Achilles') tore his Achilles' Wednesday, May 22. Harbaugh said the team is intrigued with the depth of young receivers they have on roster, and they are looking forward to them stepping up to the task. WR A.J. Jenkins, the team's 2012 first-round pick, will have a chance to make an impact in his second year. Jenkins has spent the offseason adding muscle and working with QB Colin Kaepernick.
Fantasy Tip: Look out for Jenkins as a late-round pick this summer. With Crabtree out, it's possible he could become the team's No. 2 receiver behind Anquan Boldin if he beats out Mario Manningham. Kaepernick proved last year that he can make the receiving unit in San Fran valuable.
Wed, 22 May 2013 11:15:17 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree (Achilles') suffered a torn Achilles' tendon during organized team activities Tuesday, May 21, and will undergo what could be season-ending surgery.
Fantasy Tip: There is a strong chance that this will be a lost year for Crabtree because of the major injury. Anquan Boldin will become the No. 1 wide receiver and will have his fantasy value increase. Vernon Davis should become more involved in the passing game to fill some of the void, which increases his value as a No. 1 fantasy tight end. Mario Manningham (knee), A.J. Jenkins and Quinton Patton were candidates to win the No. 3 wide receiver job but are now options for the No. 2 wide receiver job. Boldin should be considered a weak No. 2 fantasy option or a solid No. 3. Manningham, Jenkins and Patton could be options in the later rounds of drafts.
Tue, 21 May 2013 18:08:04 -0700
San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and WRs A.J. Jenkins and Ricardo Lockette lived together for two months in Atlanta during the offseason, working together at a nearby training facility. And since the opening of the team's offseason program, WR Anquan Boldin has served as a mentor, helping the two receivers on route running after practice.
Tue, 21 May 2013 18:07:34 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins focused this offseason on adding muscle and knowledge of the game. He bulked up to 196 pounds, which is four more than his listed weight. "If I get to 200 (pounds), I'll be good to go," Jenkins said.
Fri, 17 May 2013 12:08:50 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins has worked hard in the weight room this offseason and appears to have added more muscle than last season. Jenkins is expected to be one of the candidates for the No. 3 wide receiver job this season.
Fantasy Tip: Jenkins did not record any catches last season but should be more involved in the offense in 2013. Jenkins is probably not worthy of a draft pick in most leagues even if he wins the No. 3 wide receiver job, but could be a late-round flier in deeper leagues.
Wed, 01 May 2013 18:49:45 -0700
San Francisco 49ers WRs Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree are considered the unquestioned starters, but after that the depth chart battles are wide open. WR Mario Manningham (knee) will be trying to hold off challenges from WR A.J. Jenkins, rookie WR Quinton Patton and WR Kyle Williams (knee). WRs Ricardo Lockette, Chad Hall, Joseph Hastings, Marlon Moore, Chuck Jacobs and B.J. Daniels are also in the mix for roster spots, as the team is rather deep at the position.
Sat, 16 Feb 2013 12:55:10 -0800

Wed, 06 Feb 2013 08:37:58 -0800
San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins is expected to join QB Colin Kaepernick for offseason workouts as he looks to improve his overall game. "Obviously, I want to contribute a lot more than I have been," Jenkins said. "So I'm going to make that happen and come back bigger, faster, stronger." Jenkins only was active for three games in the regular season. He was in uniform during the playoffs but had no passes thrown his way, and he played three snaps in Super Bowl XLVII.
Sun, 20 Jan 2013 10:52:33 -0800
San Francisco 49ers TE Delanie Walker said he and WR A.J. Jenkins working with the JUGs machine during practice this week to improve their catching abilities. Walker dropped two passes in the team's Divisional Round playoff game while Jenkins dropped his only target this season. "Every time defense was up (in practice), I run to the JUGs machine," Walker said. "I even brought A.J. with me because he's going to be a key factor this year, I mean, in this game -- making sure he's catching balls with me. Really, that's what we need. We need guys to make plays when they come to them. I consider me one of the playmakers here."
Wed, 26 Dec 2012 17:11:46 -0800
San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss and TE Delanie Walker have been seeing more playing time in the two games without WRs Mario Manningham (knee) and Kyle Williams (knee). Moss played 60.8 percent of the offensive snaps in the games Manningham and Williams weren't playing compared to 36.2 percent of the snaps in the other 13 games. Walker's time increased to 70.4 percent from 54.4 percent in the same games. WR A.J. Jenkins is expected to be active for games from now on, too. However, Jenkins has played in only eight snaps this year and hasn't had a ball thrown to him. WR Ted Ginn Jr. has played on 57 offensive snaps this year and has just two catches for one yard.

Wed, 12 Dec 2012 18:40:15 -0800
San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins would serve as the team's third wide receiver in Week 15 against the New England Patriots if WR Mario Manningham (shoulder) is unable to play.
Thu, 29 Nov 2012 12:41:32 -0800
San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins would have to serve as the team's slot receiver in three-receiver formats in order to see much playing time, which is unlikely. WRs Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham and Randy Moss are ahead of him, and Crabtree and Manningham are capable of playing the slot. Crabtree has lined up 96 times in the slot and Manningham has been there 41 snaps. They rank second and third in average yards from the slot among players with at least 40 plays in that position. Jenkins is unlikely to surpass Moss for usage in three-receiver sets.
Mon, 26 Nov 2012 08:51:23 -0800
