Mon, 17 Jun 2013 10:11:11 -0700 San Francisco 49ers WR Kyle Williams is the pre-training camp favorite for the "X" wide receiver spot, ahead of A.J. Jenkins, who holds the slot advantage, and others. Fantasy Tip: Don't expect that to translate into consistent fantasy production, as sleeper candidates Jenkins, Ricardo Lockette and Quinton Patton should have a say in targets with Michael Crabtree (Achilles') on the sidelines.
Tue, 11 Jun 2013 20:12:11 -0700 San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh praised WR A.J. Jenkins Tuesday, June 11, for his work so far this offseason. "A.J. had his best week of football since he's been a 49ers the last four days of OTAs," Harbaugh said. Fantasy Tip: Jenkins is competing for the starting wide receiver job opposite WR Anquan Boldin during the offseason and training camp. He could be a solid No. 4 fantasy wideout if he is able to win the starting job.
Tue, 28 May 2013 18:02:20 -0700 San Francisco 49ers WRs Chad Hall and A.J. Jenkins worked with WR Anquan Boldin during the two-minute drill at organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday, May 28. So far, however, WRs Ricardo Lockette, Marlon Moore and Quinton Patton have also rotated with Hall and Jenkins during drills, and no one receiver appears to be getting the lion's share of reps opposite Boldin, as the jobs behind the veteran are viewed as wide open.
Fri, 24 May 2013 12:32:28 -0700 San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said WRs A.J. Jenkins, Quinton Patton and Ricardo Lockette will compete for the vacant starting wide receiver job during offseason workouts. Fantasy Tip: All three will have the chance to win the starting job and see an increase in their fantasy value. Jenkins and Patton likely should be considered late-round options in drafts this season. Owners should monitor Lockette's role leading up to their drafts since he could be worthy of a late-round pick in very deep leagues.
Wed, 22 May 2013 17:12:45 -0700 San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said the team isn't considering re-signing WR Randy Moss after learning that WR Michael Crabtree (Achilles') tore his Achilles' Wednesday, May 22. Harbaugh said the team is intrigued with the depth of young receivers they have on roster, and they are looking forward to them stepping up to the task. WR A.J. Jenkins, the team's 2012 first-round pick, will have a chance to make an impact in his second year. Jenkins has spent the offseason adding muscle and working with QB Colin Kaepernick. Fantasy Tip: Look out for Jenkins as a late-round pick this summer. With Crabtree out, it's possible he could become the team's No. 2 receiver behind Anquan Boldin if he beats out Mario Manningham. Kaepernick proved last year that he can make the receiving unit in San Fran valuable.
Wed, 22 May 2013 11:15:17 -0700 San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree (Achilles') suffered a torn Achilles' tendon during organized team activities Tuesday, May 21, and will undergo what could be season-ending surgery. Fantasy Tip: There is a strong chance that this will be a lost year for Crabtree because of the major injury. Anquan Boldin will become the No. 1 wide receiver and will have his fantasy value increase. Vernon Davis should become more involved in the passing game to fill some of the void, which increases his value as a No. 1 fantasy tight end. Mario Manningham (knee), A.J. Jenkins and Quinton Patton were candidates to win the No. 3 wide receiver job but are now options for the No. 2 wide receiver job. Boldin should be considered a weak No. 2 fantasy option or a solid No. 3. Manningham, Jenkins and Patton could be options in the later rounds of drafts.
Tue, 21 May 2013 18:08:04 -0700 San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and WRs A.J. Jenkins and Ricardo Lockette lived together for two months in Atlanta during the offseason, working together at a nearby training facility. And since the opening of the team's offseason program, WR Anquan Boldin has served as a mentor, helping the two receivers on route running after practice.
Tue, 21 May 2013 18:07:34 -0700 San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins focused this offseason on adding muscle and knowledge of the game. He bulked up to 196 pounds, which is four more than his listed weight. "If I get to 200 (pounds), I'll be good to go," Jenkins said.
Fri, 17 May 2013 12:08:50 -0700 San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins has worked hard in the weight room this offseason and appears to have added more muscle than last season. Jenkins is expected to be one of the candidates for the No. 3 wide receiver job this season. Fantasy Tip: Jenkins did not record any catches last season but should be more involved in the offense in 2013. Jenkins is probably not worthy of a draft pick in most leagues even if he wins the No. 3 wide receiver job, but could be a late-round flier in deeper leagues.
Wed, 01 May 2013 18:49:45 -0700 San Francisco 49ers WRs Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree are considered the unquestioned starters, but after that the depth chart battles are wide open. WR Mario Manningham (knee) will be trying to hold off challenges from WR A.J. Jenkins, rookie WR Quinton Patton and WR Kyle Williams (knee). WRs Ricardo Lockette, Chad Hall, Joseph Hastings, Marlon Moore, Chuck Jacobs and B.J. Daniels are also in the mix for roster spots, as the team is rather deep at the position.
