San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins has worked hard in the weight room this offseason and appears to have added more muscle than last season. Jenkins is expected to be one of the candidates for the No. 3 wide receiver job this season.
Fantasy Tip: Jenkins did not record any catches last season but should be more involved in the offense in 2013. Jenkins is probably not worthy of a draft pick in most leagues even if he wins the No. 3 wide receiver job, but could be a late-round flier in deeper leagues.

San Francisco 49ers WRs Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree are considered the unquestioned starters, but after that the depth chart battles are wide open. WR Mario Manningham (knee) will be trying to hold off challenges from WR A.J. Jenkins, rookie WR Quinton Patton and WR Kyle Williams (knee). WRs Ricardo Lockette, Chad Hall, Joseph Hastings, Marlon Moore, Chuck Jacobs and B.J. Daniels are also in the mix for roster spots, as the team is rather deep at the position.

San Francisco 49ers WRs Chad Hall and Ricardo Lockette are working out with QB Colin Kaepernick in Georgia. WR A.J. Jenkins is expected to join them in the near future.

San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins is expected to join QB Colin Kaepernick for offseason workouts as he looks to improve his overall game. "Obviously, I want to contribute a lot more than I have been," Jenkins said. "So I'm going to make that happen and come back bigger, faster, stronger." Jenkins only was active for three games in the regular season. He was in uniform during the playoffs but had no passes thrown his way, and he played three snaps in Super Bowl XLVII.

San Francisco 49ers TE Delanie Walker said he and WR A.J. Jenkins working with the JUGs machine during practice this week to improve their catching abilities. Walker dropped two passes in the team's Divisional Round playoff game while Jenkins dropped his only target this season. "Every time defense was up (in practice), I run to the JUGs machine," Walker said. "I even brought A.J. with me because he's going to be a key factor this year, I mean, in this game -- making sure he's catching balls with me. Really, that's what we need. We need guys to make plays when they come to them. I consider me one of the playmakers here."

San Francisco 49ers WR Randy Moss and TE Delanie Walker have been seeing more playing time in the two games without WRs Mario Manningham (knee) and Kyle Williams (knee). Moss played 60.8 percent of the offensive snaps in the games Manningham and Williams weren't playing compared to 36.2 percent of the snaps in the other 13 games. Walker's time increased to 70.4 percent from 54.4 percent in the same games. WR A.J. Jenkins is expected to be active for games from now on, too. However, Jenkins has played in only eight snaps this year and hasn't had a ball thrown to him. WR Ted Ginn Jr. has played on 57 offensive snaps this year and has just two catches for one yard.

San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins would serve as the team's third wide receiver in Week 15 against the New England Patriots if WR Mario Manningham (shoulder) is unable to play.
Thu, 29 Nov 2012 12:41:32 -0800
San Francisco 49ers WR A.J. Jenkins would have to serve as the team's slot receiver in three-receiver formats in order to see much playing time, which is unlikely. WRs Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham and Randy Moss are ahead of him, and Crabtree and Manningham are capable of playing the slot. Crabtree has lined up 96 times in the slot and Manningham has been there 41 snaps. They rank second and third in average yards from the slot among players with at least 40 plays in that position. Jenkins is unlikely to surpass Moss for usage in three-receiver sets.
