Mariners | M's trade for Dan Vogelbach

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 15:02:23 -0700

The Seattle Mariners acquired C Dan Vogelbach and P Paul Blackburn from the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, July 20, in exchange for SP Mike Montgomery, according to a source. A Class AAA pitcher is also headed to the Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: Vogelbach was being eyed by multiple clubs this week, and he fits much better in the American League as a first baseman/DH type anyway. The lefty slugger was sporting a .972 OPS with 16 homers and 64 RBI at Class AAA Iowa and should be an attractive stash option for dynasty owners if they have the room. Montgomery, a lefty, had a decent run with Seattle as a starter this year and is versatile in a starting or relieving role. He could become a matchup play in deeper leagues later this year or in 2017 if he lands in a starting role for the Cubbies.
