Wed, 12 Feb 2014 12:49:40 -0800

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts is doing spring drills at shortstop, and manager John Farrell said the team doesn't want to overload him at two positions, even though the team is considering re-signing SS Stephen Drew, which would push Bogaerts to third base. "He's done a tremendous job in the drills," infield coach Brian Butterfield said. "He's really taken to it. He's such an outstanding athlete." Boston coaches also noticed that Bogaerts looks taller and thicker than he did last year, but they aren't worried that it'll keep him from playing shortstop.

Even if the Boston Red Sox re-sign free-agent SS Stephen Drew, they are not expected to trade 3B Will Middlebrooks, who has drawn interest from the Miami Marlins.
