Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts sitting vs. O's

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 12:23:56 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts is not in the starting lineup against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, April 24. 2B/OF Brock Holt is starting at shortstop and batting eighth Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Bogaerts ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) from your daily lineups Friday, and at this point it appears it is a routine day off. Holt ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has gone 12-for-29 to start the season, and could be earning more playing time due to his hot start. He is a viable FantasyScore option for the majority of his starts, including Friday. And he is beginning to tip the scales in deep mixed leagues, especially if he continues to find close to everyday at-bats.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts resting

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 15:08:57 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 21. 2B Brock Holt is starting at shortstop and hitting eighth in the batting order against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer.

Fantasy Tip: Holt ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is off to a fine start in limited at-bats in 2015, with 12 hits in 26 at-bats, including five RBI. Archer fared well against lefties last season, though, holding them to a .227 average and five home runs in 419 at-bats. Holt is on the low end of FantasyScore second basemen to choose from.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts going for MRI

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 12:26:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts (knee) is going for an MRI exam on his sore right knee Tuesday, April 14.

Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, so make sure he's not in your FantasyScore lineups. Brock Holt ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is starting at the 6, but he's a weak play going against Washington Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg.

Red Sox | Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts raking

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 14:34:00 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia (5-for-6 with a homer) and SS Xander Bogaerts (3-for-8 with two homers) are both raking early in spring. Bogaerts had a disappointing 2014 mainly due to struggles against a slider. His second homer this spring came against a slider, however. Bogaerts also struggled with poor plate discipline last year, walking just 6.6% of the time after walking 10.9% in Class AAA in 2013. Pedroia's power has dropped each year since 2011, when he hit a career-high 21 home runs.

Fantasy Tip: Pedroia and Bogaerts are both undervalued at their respective positions heading into 2015. Bogaerts is the more attractive upside pick with plenty of room for a rebound this season. Pedroia's declining power numbers in recent seasons are likely attributed to wrist and hand ailments. You can usually count on a solid average from the veteran, but his power could also rebound if he puts in a fully healthy season.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts worked on defense

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 13:10:44 -0800

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts showed his improved first-step quickness on defense to infield coach Brian Butterfield Monday, Feb. 16. Bogaerts spent the winter at EXOS Performance Institute in Phoenix working on his defensive skills. Butterfield is confident that Bogaerts can improve on defense after a below-average year in 2014. Butterfield also plans to work with Bogaerts on studying the team's pitcher's tendencies.

Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts is an intriguing middle-round mixed-league pick for his upside. If he can learn from his disappointing 2014 campaign in all aspects, he could reach more of his peak potential, and he becomes even more valuable with third base eligibility.
