Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts kicking skid

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 19:04:35 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts had two hits, including a double, a run scored and a stolen base during Boston's 1-0 win over the Minnesota Twins Tuesday, June 2. It was his fifth hit over the past two games, which was proceeded by an 0-for-15 six-game slump.

Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) was surging before the slump, so it is encouraging that it only lasted a week. Now, he appears back on track to continue his breakout season. The 22-year-old shortstop might not wow in any particular category, but he is capable of tilting the scales in all five standard categories. He should be owned in all but shallow mixed leagues, and even there, he should be on your radar. In favorable matchups, he is a solid mid-priced play in FantasyScore contests, too.

Red Sox | Brock Holt playing Saturday

Sat, 30 May 2015 12:46:25 -0700

Boston Red Sox INF Brock Holt is starting at shortstop and batting eighth against the Texas Rangers Saturday, May 30. SS Xander Bogaerts is getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Holt ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is batting .287 with one home run and 11 RBIs over 101 at-bats this year. He is a nice source of cap relief for FantasyScore owners.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts back in lineup

Fri, 29 May 2015 13:38:35 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts (forearm) is back in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo Friday, May 29. Bogaerts is hitting seventh in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) was hit by a pitch in the arm last night and came out of the game early. It apparently wasn't serious. Bogaerts was on a seven-game hitting streak before going hitless in his last four games. For what it's worth, Bogaerts has been better at home this year and Gallardo has fared better when pitching in Texas. The game tonight is in Texas.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts has forearm bruise

Thu, 28 May 2015 18:42:39 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts (arm) suffered a left forearm bruise after being hit by a pitch in the second inning against the Texas Rangers Thursday, May 28.

Fantasy Tip: If Bogaerts misses time, Brock Holt ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) could see some extra playing time and make a nice source of cap relief at FantasyScore. Holt is hitting .299 on the year, including .329 against right-handed pitching, and has scored five runs in his last four games.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts exits after HBP

Thu, 28 May 2015 18:19:19 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts (undisclosed) exited in the fourth inning against the Texas Rangers after being hit by a pitch on the left wrist in the second inning Thursday, May 28. He was replaced in the lineup by OF Carlos Peguero.

Fantasy Tip: His early exit is likely a result of being hit in the wrist, but check back for more information about his health and whether or not he will miss time.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts collects four hits

Sun, 24 May 2015 19:32:17 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts went 4-for-4 with two runs scored in a 6-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Sunday, May 24.

Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has been swinging a steady bat recently, but his value at FantasyScore fluctuates depending on where he is hitting in the lineup.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts moved up in lineup

Fri, 22 May 2015 13:52:49 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts, who is hitting .345 (10-for-29) with a double, triple and home run in the last nine games, has been moved up to fifth in the batting order against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards Friday, May 22.

Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is one of the few players in Boston's lineup swinging a hot stick right now, hence the move up the order. However, he's not the best pick to click tonight against a dominant Richards, who has held righties to a .177 average (11-for-62) with 17 strikeouts this year.

Red Sox | Boston terrible against southpaws

Wed, 13 May 2015 11:36:09 -0700

The Boston Red Sox are hitting a meager .188 against left-handed pitchers this year, which is dead last in all of baseball, and they have a .638 OPS (ranked 26th) against lefties. OF Hanley Ramirez is about the only hitter on the team succeeded against lefties, going 8-for-24 (.333) with four home runs. 1B Mike Napoli is .240 against lefties this year, while SS Xander Bogaerts is 5-for-25 with zero RBI. DH David Ortiz has five hits in 34 at-bats, and 3B Pablo Sandoval is just 2-for-34 batting from the right side as a switch hitter. The Red Sox will face three left-handed pitchers when they face off against the Seattle Mariners this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: You'll obviously want to avoid most Red Sox players when they face left-handed hurlers, at least for the foreseeable future. Also, all lefty pitchers should at least be considered at FantasyScore when facing Boston, beginning with Roenis Elias ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) as a sleeper pick tomorrow.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts sitting out Wednesday

Wed, 13 May 2015 09:47:20 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 13. OF Brock Holt is starting at shortstop and hitting sixth in the batting order against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray.

Fantasy Tip: Holt ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is 17-for-50 (.340) with his only home run and four RBI against right-handed pitchers in 2015 in limited time. He's facing a pitcher that has been throwing well, though, but Holt could come in handy as a cheap sleeper option at FantasyScore.

Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts sitting vs. O's

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 12:23:56 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts is not in the starting lineup against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, April 24. 2B/OF Brock Holt is starting at shortstop and batting eighth Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Bogaerts ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) from your daily lineups Friday, and at this point it appears it is a routine day off. Holt ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has gone 12-for-29 to start the season, and could be earning more playing time due to his hot start. He is a viable FantasyScore option for the majority of his starts, including Friday. And he is beginning to tip the scales in deep mixed leagues, especially if he continues to find close to everyday at-bats.
