Angels | Andrelton Simmons back in two weeks?

Fri, 27 May 2016 15:47:12 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Andrelton Simmons (thumb) is hoping he can return to the team in two weeks. It's a sign he's progressing nicely in his recovery, but The Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher thinks Simmons is probably being unrealistic with his return timeline.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons was initially expected to miss six to eight weeks after tearing a ligament in his thumb and requiring surgery. It'd be a plus if he returns in June, but don't count on it. From a fantasy perspective, Simmons doesn't offer a whole lot with the bat. He was hitting only .219 with a home run and eight RBI when he was injured. Simmons is probably best reserved to AL-only leagues when he's back.

Angels | Andrelton Simmons 'weeks away'

Tue, 24 May 2016 15:18:42 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Andrelton Simmons (thumb) is doing baseball activities such as swinging a bat, playing catch and fielding ground balls. However, manager Mike Scioscia said Simmons is still "weeks away."

Fantasy Tip: Gregoria Petit has been playing mainly at the 6 with Simmons out, but he carries very minimal fantasy value in the deepest of AL leagues. Fantasy owners aren't itching for Simmons to return, though, as he was hitting only .219/.246/.281 with one home run and eight RBI. He'll likely remain on the waiver wire in many leagues even when he's back.

Angels | Andrelton Simmons timeline

Mon, 09 May 2016 16:00:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Andrelton Simmons (thumb) is dealing with an injury that typically requires six to eight weeks to recover from, according to general manager Billy Eppler.

Fantasy Tip: Depending on how quickly Simmons heals, he could be back near the end of the season. Don't bank on it in deep AL-only leagues, though. It's probably safe to drop him now. Cliff Pennington is likely to become the starter at the 6, but he has a similar weak-hitting profile and is nothing more than depth in AL-only universes.

Angels | Andrelton Simmons needs surgery

Mon, 09 May 2016 15:29:35 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Andrelton Simmons (thumb) will need thumb surgery and will land on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: The Angels are falling apart quickly. Simmons, who had a slash line of just .219/.246/.281, should've only been used for depth in AL-only leagues. It's unclear if this injury will keep him out for the rest of the season, but it doesn't sound good. Don't expect him to give you much else. Johnny Giavotella and Cliff Pennington should see regular playing time up the middle now, with Pennington likely starting at the 6. Both players are slappy hitters that don't give fantasy owners much help. They're usefulness doesn't really extend beyond AL leagues.

Angels | Andrelton Simmons injured

Sun, 08 May 2016 14:19:25 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Andrelton Simmons (thumb) left his team's game Sunday, May 8, with a sprained left thumb. He will have an MRI on Monday, May 9.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons won't win you many fantasy points with his bat, but obviously the team will miss his defense if he is out for an extended period of time. Stay tuned for results on the MRI. As it is, Simmons doesn't have much fantasy value outside of the deepest AL leagues because of his bat.

Angels | Andrelton Simmons snaps skid

Fri, 06 May 2016 23:43:23 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Andrelton Simmons snapped an 0-for-21 skid with an RBI single in the eighth inning Friday, May 6, against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons still has a long way to go before he can be trusted by fantasy owners outside of deeper AL-only leagues right now, but the RBI single was a start.

Angels | Andrelton Simmons hitting second

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 09:02:31 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Andrelton Simmons is hitting second Wednesday, April 20.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons has a 12-game hitting streak, but it's misleading because he only has multiple hits in two of the games. Simmons faces one of the best pitchers in baseball in Chris Sale, and Simmons hit just .228 against lefties from 2012-15. He's a very buyer-beware option in DFS.

Angels | Andrelton Simmons streaking

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 23:02:45 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Andrelton Simmons extended his hitting streak to a career-high 12 games Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: The streak is a bit misleading because he's hitting just .278 with three RBI. He has only had multiple hits in two of the games. While the streak is nice, he remains a midrange shortstop with suspect offensive prowess.

Angels | Three-hit game for Andrelton Simmons

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 23:27:25 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Andrelton Simmons went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI Monday, April 18, against the Chicago White Sox to push his average to .275.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons has now hit safely in 11 straight games dating back to April 7 to equal a career high. While that's impressive, he has 11 singles and three doubles during the span, to limit his value in DFS play and fantasy formats.

Angels | Andrelton Simmons making swings count?

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 12:43:43 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Andrelton Simmons owns the best swing-and-miss percentage in the league with just two misses on 44 swings (4.5%) this season. However, Simmons has also yet to register a walk through eight games.

Fantasy Tip: With a .241/.241/.324 slash line and just a single RBI to start the season, Simmons is picking up where he left off in 2015. He should be left to cavernous mixed and AL-only formats, and even in those deep leagues, there isn't a lot to like about the defensive specialist.
