Braves | Andrelton Simmons fine after HBP

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 16:21:40 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (elbow) wore a protective guard over his left elbow Tuesday, March 24, one day after getting hit by a pitch on the elbow. He went 1-for-3 and hit a two-run homer in Tuesday's contest, which pushed his average to .467, with two homers and 12 RBI in 10 games.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons doesn't appear to be injured after getting plunked Monday. The young shortstop has some power upside -- he hit 17 homers in 2013 -- but hasn't hit for a high average, despite rarely striking out. He's a fine late-round target for gamers looking to fill a middle infield spot or take a chance on some upside at shortstop.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons to play Thursday

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 19:57:36 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (oblique) is expected to make his Grapefruit League spring debut Thursday, March 12, against the New York Yankees. He has been sidelined with an oblique strain.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons is a decent late-round fantasy addition once the top offensive options are off the board. He could have a nice rebound season in 2015, but donít expect huge offensive production.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons yet to play

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 09:10:18 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (oblique) has yet to play in a spring game because of a strained oblique. However, he took batting practice Saturday, March 7, and Sunday, March 8.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons' oblique injury isn't believed to be serious, but the Braves are being extremely cautious. He could be in line for a rebound at the plate in 2015 after a harsh overcorrection to his stats last year. Still, Simmons remains a defensive-first commodity that becomes a late-round shortstop option if you wait on the scarce position.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons injury update

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 16:36:34 -0800

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (oblique) is expected to miss at least the first few spring training games.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons' stock in fantasy leagues is unchanged with this news. He remains a middle infield option in deep leagues and a starting shortstop option in NL-only formats. Owners drafting him will hope he's able to recapture some of the power he displayed during the 2013 season after failing to reach double-digit homers last season.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons fine

Fri, 27 Feb 2015 10:09:51 -0800

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (oblique) did some light throwing Friday, Feb. 27, and "dry swings." His oblique injury doesn't look like it will keep him out of action for very long.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons is a defensive star in the league. Unfortunately, he doesn't have much going for him at the dish, especially after he hit 10 fewer home runs in 2014 than he did the year prior. And he doesn't run very much at all, either, meaning he's a late-round flier at the position in the hope that he can rebound some from his overcorrection in 2014.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons limited early

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 08:08:12 -0800

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (oblique) will not throw in the early days of camp due to a sore oblique. The team hopes he'll be ready in a week.

Fantasy Tip: The injury isn't serious, but Simmons took a step backwards in his second full season last year. He has hit .248 and .244 in his two seasons, and he hit just seven homers after his promising 17-homer campaign in 2013. At this stage, he's a low-end SS and a player with upside for your MI spot.
