Braves | Andrelton Simmons to undergo MRI exam

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 13:43:22 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (thumb) will undergo an MRI exam on his sprained right thumb Monday, Aug. 3. He suffered the injury while diving for a single off the bat of Philadelphia Phillies OF Odubel Herrera Saturday, Aug. 1. X-rays revealed that the thumb is not fractured but Simmons is still experiencing pain.

Fantasy Tip: There is no timetable for Simmons' ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) return. He is batting .254 with three home runs and 30 RBIs in 102 games. Daniel Castro ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should see the bulk of the playing time at shortstop while Simmons is sidelined.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons out of lineup

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 08:15:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons is out of the lineup Sunday, Aug. 2, against the Philadelphia Phillies. 2B Daniel Castro will start at shortstop and hit eighth in the order against LHP Adam Morgan.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) hit .389 at Class AA this season, but he hit just .264 at Class AAA before joining the Braves. FantasyScore owners will need to see him start producing before making the investment.

Mets | N.Y. checks on Andrelton Simmons

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 08:11:35 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons was the subject of a call from the New York Mets, but the Braves put an "unreachable price tag" on him.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has a .263-3-30 line on the season and is much more valuable in real life than in fantasy. He's not a good option on FantasyScore most days.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons looking to snap slump

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 10:14:21 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons was hitting .154 (10-for-65) with no extra-base hits, one RBI, a .214 on-base percentage and a .154 slugging percentage in his last 19 games leading into the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is more of a defensive-minded player than a threat with the stick, and he has very little power to speak of (3 HR, .337 slugging percentage). Because of that, he's more of a low-end shortstop play on FantasyScore, especially when he's stuck in an offensive rut like he is right now.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons sitting

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 15:08:28 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons is out of the starting lineup Tuesday, July 7, against the Milwaukee Brewers. SS Pedro Ciriaco will start in the field and hit seventh in the order against RHP Tyler Cravy.

Fantasy Tip: Ciriaco ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting .333 against right-handed pitchers through 47 plate appearances. While Ciriaco lacks power and upside, FantasyScore owners can be content with a hit and possibly a run scored at the minimum price.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons sitting out

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 12:22:21 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons is not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 25. SS Pedro Ciriaco is starting at shortstop and hitting eighth against Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister.

Fantasy Tip: Ciriaco ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has a .298 average (14-for-47) as a utility infielder for the Bravos. However, he doesn't have much power and his offensive abilities are limited, making him a very weak play on FantasyScore, especially while at the bottom of the lineup.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons returns vs. Boston

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 13:04:20 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (hand) is starting at shortstop and batting sixth against Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz Thursday, June 18.

Fantasy Tip: Over his last 20 games, Simmons ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has a respectable .308 batting average with a modest counting-stat return of 10 runs and nine RBI. He missed two games with the hand injury and stands as more of a lineup filler than a building block for FantasyScore contests Thursday.

Braves | Pedro Ciriaco fills in admirably

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 23:01:40 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Pedro Ciriaco started Wednesday, June 17, against the Boston Red Sox in place of the injured SS Andrelton Simmons (hand).

Fantasy Tip: Ciriaco ($1,600; or 3.2% of cap) had three hits in four at-bats with a double and two RBIs as a fill-in. He could be a cheap FantasyScore option with some upside if he gets another chance to start.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons not starting

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 12:10:32 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (hand) is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Joe Kelly Wednesday, June 17. SS Pedro Ciriaco will start at shortstop and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) probably is considered day-to-day because of his injured hand. Ciriaco ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is coming off a 2-for-4 performance in his last game with one RBI, but owners on FantasyScore should be able to find a better option for their lineups.

Braves | Andrelton Simmons rests hand

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 19:05:51 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves SS Andrelton Simmons (hand) was out of the lineup Tuesday, June 16, against the Boston Red Sox. He was hit on the right hand attempting a bunt Monday, June 15.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons ($3,000; or 6.0% of cap) was able to play on Monday, so Tuesday’s game was likely just a rest. His injury did not sound terribly serious, but obviously he suffered some bruising or swelling overnight. Wait to see him officially return and prove his health in a full game before trusting him in FantasyScore.
