Steelers | Ladarius Green goes to PUP list

Tue, 30 Aug 2016 13:13:16 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 30, meaning he will miss the first six games of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Jesse James is officially on the fantasy radar. He had a good showing with the first-team offense in their last preseason game, and he's a bargain right now in fantasy drafts as he can achieve TE1 status in any of the first six weeks of the season.

Steelers | Slow rehab for Ladarius Green

Thu, 25 Aug 2016 15:17:21 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) still hopes to be ready for Week 1, but acknowledged that the rehabilitation process is "very slow."

Fantasy Tip: If Green is sidelined for Week 1, then Jesse James would make for a nice, cheap tight end play in daily formats. Ben Roethlisberger frequented Heath Miller's catching radius and has always been fond of dumping the ball off to his tight ends. James is also a handcuff consideration for those who draft Green as their TE1.

Steelers | Ladarius Green calls headaches a rumor

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 13:57:38 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (concussion, ankle) said he has no idea where rumors of his headaches spawned.

Fantasy Tip: Green is still on the PUP list because of an ankle injury, but maybe his recurring headaches aren't as severe as originally believed. Either way, his status will need to be monitored leading up to the regular season, especially since he'll need to be taken off the PUP list before the season starts if he wants to play. If he is not ready, then Jesse James becomes a nice sleeper option as he should become the starting tight end in Pittsburgh.

Steelers | Jesse James in line to start

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 13:55:13 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jesse James would start if TE Ladarius Green (concussion, ankle) is not ready by the start of the season. James has developed a nice red-zone rapport with QB Ben Roethlisberger, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com.

Fantasy Tip: James is becoming a pretty sneaky option at the tight end position. He can be had for nothing and could start at least half of the regular season depending on Green's status. As of now, James can probably even be claimed off waivers in most leagues while he's still under the radar.

Steelers | IR an option for Ladarius Green

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 13:48:22 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (concussion, ankle) could begin the regular season on the Reserve/Injured list, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.

Fantasy Tip: Green's situation is murky at best right now. He could either retire, be cut, start the season on IR or be healthy enough by Week 1. Green is not totally undraftable, of course, but one should strongly consider taking Jesse James in a later round as a handcuff to Green.

Steelers | Mike Tomlin talks Ladarius Green

Fri, 12 Aug 2016 21:37:25 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) is on the Physically Unable to Perform list solely because of an ankle injury, head coach Mike Tomlin said Friday, Aug. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Rumor has it Green is dealing with headaches stemming from concussions and could be forced to retire. Tomlin's comments have to be taken with a grain of salt, and at this point, Green is a late-round, roll-of-the-dice pick.

Steelers | Ladarius Green could retire

Thu, 11 Aug 2016 13:09:00 -0700

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (concussion) may be considering retirement if his recurring headaches persist, according to a source. There is also speculation that the Steelers could cut Green.

Fantasy Tip: A bad situation has quickly turned into a worse one for Green and the Steelers. If the tight end hangs up his cleats or is released, then Jesse James would suddenly garner sleeper attention. This situation will need to be monitored leading up to the regular season, but it's best to place Green outside of TE1 territory for now.

Steelers | Ladarius Green dealing with headaches

Thu, 11 Aug 2016 11:01:34 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (head, ankle) is not participating in practice because of recurring headaches and not because of his surgically repaired ankle, according to a member of the organization. Green suffered two concussions in two weeks last September.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation during the preseason to see if he will be ready for the regular season. He was expected to be a big part of the passing game this season, but it is not known when he will be able to return. Owners may want to drop him in their rankings a bit because of the injury, but he should still be a low-end No. 1 or a high-end No. 2 tight end if healthy.

Steelers | Ladarius Green still unable to go

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 19:04:42 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) remains on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list nearly two weeks after the open of training camp. He is still recovering from ankle surgery in January and has yet to practice with his new team. He will miss at least the first preseason game Friday, Aug. 12, against the Detroit Lions. Expectations are so low at this point, QB Ben Roethlisberger did not mention Green when talking about the team's tight end situation Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Green has a ton of potential and could be a giant addition to the Pittsburgh offense, and way better than his predecessor Heath Miller. However, he needs to get on the field and build rapport with his new quarterback. If Green isn't ready for Week 1, it would likely be Jesse James, Xavier Grimble or David Johnson forced to step up. Green is still a nice middle-round fantasy pick in most drafts, but he needs to get healthy in a hurry. He is a TE1, but have depth on hand just in case.

Steelers | No timetable for Ladarius Green

Sat, 30 Jul 2016 06:20:52 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) does not have a timetable for when he will be able to return to practice.

Fantasy Tip: Green is recovering from offseason ankle surgery and likely will take his time returning to make sure he will be ready for the start of the regular season. Green should have a significant role in the passing game in 2016 and could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in some leagues.

Steelers | Ladarius Green placed on PUP list

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 14:06:12 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Thursday, July 28.

Fantasy Tip: Green is recovering from offseason surgery, so it is not known when he will be able to practice again. He should be an important part of the passing game this season and probably will be a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 tight end if he is healthy.

Steelers | Ladarius Green idle from ankle surgery

Wed, 25 May 2016 11:32:07 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) is out of organized team activities as he recovers from offseason ankle surgery. He doesn't have a firm timetable, but he's hopeful to be ready for training camp.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't affect his draft stock unless it bleeds far into camp. Green has a ton of upside in this offense, and he's an upper-middle option at the position.

Steelers | Pittsburgh may use two TEs in red zone

Mon, 23 May 2016 18:24:37 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TEs Ladarius Green and Jesse James may both be on the field at the same time in the red zone because of their height.

Fantasy Tip: Green should receive most of the playing time at tight end in 2016 because of his catching ability and should be a low-end No. 1 or No. 2 tight end in most fantasy leagues. James likely will be used as a blocker but can be a threat close to the end zone since he is one of the tallest receivers on the team. He can still be avoided in most leagues.

Steelers | Ladarius Green to stretch the field

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 09:10:48 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green will give the team a vertical threat at the position that retired TE Heath Miller didn't give them. "He'll bring us a dimension at tight end that we really haven't had," general manager Kevin Colbert said. "Heath was a great receiver, a great blocker. He wasn't really a stretch the field guy. Ladarius gives you that added dimension of speed, he'll have to work on his blocking to get caught up to where we need him to be. But the speed and vertical threat at tight end is really something we haven't had."

Fantasy Tip: Green will be a low-end TE1 with a lot of upside in drafts.

Steelers | Xavier Grimble could step up

Sun, 13 Mar 2016 17:03:44 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Xavier Grimble impressed the coaching staff in practice last year with his ability to catch passes down the seam, and he will be in the mix for the No. 2 tight end spot behind TE Ladarius Green, according to general manager Kevin Colbert.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Grimble is able to claim the No. 2 tight end spot, he won't be worth owning in fantasy leagues unless something happens to Green.

Steelers | Ladarius Green had surgery

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 13:19:08 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) underwent ankle surgery at an undisclosed date, but he believes he'll be ready for training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Green is one of the more intriguing tight ends this year with a move to the potent Pittsburgh offense. Green is a great downfield weapon whose value was stunted behind Antonio Gates in San Diego. Now that he's the main man for the Steelers, he's a borderline TE1.

Steelers | Ladarius Green deal for four years

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 20:12:34 -0800

Updating a previous report, free-agent TE Ladarius Green (Chargers) agreed to terms with the Pittsburgh Steelers Wednesday, March 9. The deal is for four years and has $4.75 million in guaranteed money, with a max value of $20 million. The cap hit for the 2016 is just $2.44 million.

Fantasy Tip: Green has been in the shadow of Antonio Gates in San Diego, but showed glimpses of brilliance last season when Gates was suspended, and then injured. Green gets a chance to show what he can do on a much bigger stage, in a much better offense. He could emerge as a Top 10 option at his position for fantasy owners in 2016.

Steelers | Ladarius Green heading to Pittsburgh

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 14:08:58 -0800

Free-agent TE Ladarius Green (Chargers) will join the Pittsburgh Steelers pending a physical, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Steelers find their replacement for Heath Miller and add another dynamic playmaker to an already explosive offense. Green is an injury risk - having suffered multiple concussions among other injuries - but is a freakishly talented tight end with an ability to stretch the field. With Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant to draw coverage away from him, Green could easily flirt with low-end TE1 value.

Steelers | Ladarius Green likely to PIT

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 09:38:43 -0800

San Diego Chargers impending free-agent TE Ladarius Green is expected to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The move would be big for both sides as Green looks to become a No. 1 tight end, and the Steelers lost Heath Miller to retirement. Green has a loaded offense around him that could allow him to reach the potential as a receiving tight end that he has teased fantasy owners with. Green could be a low-end TE1 consideration in drafts.

Jets | Ladarius Green of interest to Jets?

Sun, 06 Mar 2016 11:08:39 -0800

San Diego Chargers impending free-agent TE Ladarius Green could draw interest from the New York Jets in free agency, according to Brian Costello of The New York Post.

Fantasy Tip: New York's tight ends have definitely underachieved in recent years, and the likes of Jace Amaro and Jeff Cumberland don't exactly strike fear into the hearts of opponents. Green would likely provide the most fantasy value if he were to be signed by the Jets, but this is obviously just speculation right now.

Chargers | San Diego wants to keep Ladarius Green

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 12:39:04 -0800

San Diego Chargers impending free-agent TE Ladarius Green is a player the team would like to keep. Chargers general manager Tom Telesco intends to meet with Green's player rep at the NFL Combine this week.

Fantasy Tip: Green was underutilized for the bulk of his first four years in San Diego and may not be willing to wait any longer behind Antonio Gates, who is also a free agent the team is interested in bringing back. Green figures to be a hot commodity if he makes it to the open market and could easily be a dark-horse TE1 candidate next season if he lands in a favorable situation.

Chargers | Unlikely to use franchise tag

Tue, 16 Feb 2016 09:24:19 -0800

The San Diego Chargers don't really have a player worthy of the franchise tag this year. FS Eric Weddle will be allowed to hit the free-agent market. TE Antonio Gates turns 36 this summer and is near the end of his career. TE Ladarius Green could be coveted on the free-agent market, but he's been injured and is too inconsistent.

Chargers | Tight ends to be issue for Chargers?

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 11:46:30 -0800

San Diego Chargers TEs Antonio Gates, Ladarius Green, David B. Johnson and John Phillips will all become free agents if they are not re-signed by March 9. Gates is expected to return, however.

Fantasy Tip: Re-signing Gates will be a big plus for the Chargers, and he'll remain in TE1 territory if/when he is re-signed. The depth behind him will be a problem if San Diego can't re-sign at least one of Green, Johnson or Phillips.

Chargers | Ladarius Green placed on IR

Mon, 28 Dec 2015 11:49:41 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) was placed on the season-ending Reserve/Injured list Monday, Dec. 28. TE Sean McGrath was subsequently promoted to the active roster.

Fantasy Tip: Antonio Gates won't have to worry about his targets being taken from Green next week. Gates had an off week in Week 16, but he's still in TE1 territory heading into the final week of the regular season.

Chargers | Ladarius Green playing in Week 16

Thu, 24 Dec 2015 16:19:21 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) is officially active for the Week 16 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Green ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has received targets in the passing game but has two receptions or fewer in each of the last six games. He has posted at least 50 yards in only three games this season and should not be a starting option for owners.

Chargers | Stevie Johnson, Ladarius Green questionable

Wed, 23 Dec 2015 12:37:25 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Stevie Johnson (groin) and TE Ladarius Green (ankle) are listed as questionable for Week 16 against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) would give the Chargers some much needed receiving depth if he's able to play tomorrow night. He has missed the last two games, though, so he could be a little rusty. Green ($2,000, 4.0%) has been a non-factor since Antonio Gates returned. Keep an eye on Johnson over the next couple days as he might provide at least a flex spot on FantasyScore, but Green can be avoided altogether.

Chargers | Ladarius Green doesn't practice

Tue, 22 Dec 2015 14:05:49 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) did not practice Tuesday, Dec. 22, after being limited Monday, Dec. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Green ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has been a non-factor since Antonio Gates returned to the starting tight end position. As long as Gates is healthy, you can't really rationalize starting Green on FantasyScore or in your fantasy championship games this weekend.

Mon, 21 Dec 2015 11:11:37 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Stevie Johnson (groin) and TE Ladarius Green (ankle) were limited in practice Monday, Dec. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) would give the Chargers some much needed receiving depth if he's able to play Thursday night. He's missed the last two games for San Diego. Green ($2,000, 4.0%) has really been a non-factor since Antonio Gates returned. Keep an eye on Johnson over the next couple days as he might provide at least a flex spot on FantasyScore, but Green can be avoided altogether.

Chargers | Ladarius Green questionable

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 13:28:13 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) was limited in practice Friday, Dec. 18, and is questionable for Week 15 against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: Green ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has been hobbled for much of the season and his production has suffered as a result. Antonio Gates is fully healthy right now, too, limiting Green's chances to help fantasy owners as a deep sleeper. Look elsewhere.

Chargers | Ladarius Green sits out

Thu, 17 Dec 2015 16:05:44 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: It is looking like Green ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) probably will not be able to play against the Miami Dolphins this week, but owners should still monitor the situation. He has caught two passes or fewer in each of the last five games and probably should not be an option even if he plays.

Chargers | Ladarius Green not practicing

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 12:09:09 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) is not practicing in the portion of practice open to the media Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Green ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has been battling through injuries for much of the season and doesn't have more than two catches since late October. Even with a depleted Chargers receiving corps, Green isn't worth a gamble in any fantasy format right now.

Chargers | Ladarius Green probable

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 13:43:29 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 11, and is listed as probable for the Week 14 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Green ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has seen his production drop in the last few weeks and has caught two or fewer passes in each of the last four games. Owners should be able to find better options to use at the position.

Chargers | Philip Rivers, Ladarius Green full go

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 14:45:06 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (foot) and TE Ladarius Green (ankle) participated fully in practice Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Green ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) may be more active this week with the Chargers depleted wide receivers. He's not the most reliable tight end, but if you're looking for a cheaper tight end on FantasyScore with high potential, Green is a candidate. Rivers ($6,600, 13.2%) doesn't have a lot of weapons to throw to against a tough Kansas City Chiefs defense, so don't put him at the top of your Week 14 fantasy quarterback totem pole.

Fantasy Tip: Green ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) may be more active this week with the Chargers depleted wide receivers. He's not the most reliable tight end, but if you're looking for a cheaper tight end on FantasyScore with high potential, Green is a candidate.

Chargers | Ladarius Green expected to play

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 13:05:21 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 4, and is listed as probable for the Week 13 game against the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: Green ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) should have a role in the passing game but has been held to only one catch in each of the last three games. Owners should be able to find other options to use in their lineups.

Chargers | Philip Rivers, Ladarius Green full go

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 14:48:19 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (foot) and TE Ladarius Green (ankle) both practiced fully Thursday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers ($7,100, 14.2% of cap) and Green ($2,600, 5.2%) have the luxury of facing one of, if not the, toughest pass defenses in the NFL this year in the Denver Broncos. Green may be a sneaky play at tight end, but Rivers could struggle and may want to be avoided.

Chargers | Ladarius Green fully practices

Wed, 02 Dec 2015 14:44:07 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) practiced in full Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Despite a strong Denver Broncos defense, they are somewhat vulnerable to tight ends this year, allowing five touchdown catches to the position. However, with Antonio Gates still one of Philip Rivers' most trusted targets, Green ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is getting the leftovers. He's had just one catch in each of the last three games and remains a deep sleeper.

Chargers | Probable status for three Chargers

Fri, 27 Nov 2015 13:53:24 -0800

San Diego Chargers TEs Antonio Gates (hip) and Ladarius Green (ankle) and WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) are listed as probable for Week 12 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how involved Floyd ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) will be in his first game back from a torn labrum, so it might be safe to steer clear of him this week. Gates ($6,800, 13.6%) and Green ($2,900, 5.8%) have a good matchup, but Green's value is minimal with Gates playing.

Chargers | Malcom Floyd, Ladarius Green limited

Thu, 26 Nov 2015 13:12:06 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) and TE Ladarius Green (ankle) were limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: It would be somewhat of a surprise if Floyd ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) played this week as he is still recovering from a torn labrum. Green ($2,900, 5.8%) didn't practice yesterday, so if he keeps trending upward he could take the field this weekend. Their statuses will need to be monitored heading into the weekend.

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 18:58:52 -0800

San Diego Chargers TEs Ladarius Green and Antonio Gates were each limited to just one catch in Week 11 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Green and Gates were huge disappointments for fantasy owners, especially since more targets were expected with the wide receiver corps decimated. It's becoming clear that basically no one in the San Diego roster can be trusted for fantasy purposes right now.

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 11:47:38 -0800

San Diego Chargers TEs Antonio Gates (knee, hip) and Ladarius Green (ankle) are active Sunday, Nov. 22, against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Gates ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) is still the better play here despite both players being active. It's unclear how involved Green ($2,900, 5.8%) will be coming off his injury and with Gates also playing. Take a wait-and-see approach with Green.

Chargers | Ladarius Green unlikely to play

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 07:47:17 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) is not expected to play in Week 11's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Green ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) hasn't played since suffering an ankle injury in Week 8's game against the Baltimore Ravens, although he did participate in practice Friday, Nov. 20. TE Antonio Gates ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) appears to be the best receiving option QB Philip Rivers ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) has at this point, although Gates has been battling minor knee and hip problems of his own recently.

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (knee, hip) and TE Ladarius Green (ankle) returned to practice Friday, Nov. 20. It was Green's first practice since Nov. 1. Gates is probable for Week 11, while Green is questionable.

Fantasy Tip: Gates ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) is probably the best option Philip Rivers has left to throw to at this point. He's a better play than Green ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) against the Kansas City Chiefs on FantasyScore.

Thu, 19 Nov 2015 15:28:20 -0800

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (shoulder) and TE Ladarius Green (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) was expected to miss the game anyway, and it looks like Green ($2,900, 5.8%) may be at risk of missing another contest. Antonio Gates ($6,900, 13.8%) and Stevie Johnson ($5,800, 11.6%) should see plenty of targets in Week 11. They are both worth starting on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: If Green ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) continues to miss practice this week it's likely that he'll sit out again. If he is sidelined, Antonio Gates remains a great option on FantasyScore; he is the Chargers' primary pass-catcher now.

Chargers | Ladarius Green ruled out

Mon, 09 Nov 2015 16:21:02 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) has been declared inactive for the Week 9 game against the Chicago Bears Monday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Antonio Gates ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) will see most of the work at tight end during the game. He will be facing a Bears defense that allows the third fewest fantasy points to tight ends but could still be a solid starting option.

Chargers | Ladarius Green doubtful

Sat, 07 Nov 2015 12:09:40 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) is listed as doubtful for Week 9 against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Antonio Gates is expected to play and should be the Chargers’ top receiving threat with Keenan Allen sidelined. John Phillips ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) will fill in as the backup tight end with Green expected to sit, but he’s not worth starting even at his cheap price.

Fantasy Tip: Green ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) suffered the injury last week and may not be able to play against the Chicago Bears Monday, Nov. 6. Owners should continue to monitor the situation but should have other options ready in case Green is ruled out.
