Updating previous reports, the Charlotte Observer reports two sources close to the situation said former Carolina Panthers OL Kevin Donnalley obtained NFL-banned steroids through a West Columbia physician at the center of a federal steroids investigation. Donnalley was a patient of Dr. James Shortt in at least 2003 and 2004, and obtained testosterone through the doctor, the sources said. He is the fourth team member overall, identified as having obtained steroids through Shortt. A CBS News report in March named C Jeff Mitchell, OT Todd Steussie and P Todd Sauerbrun as having filled prescriptions written by Shortt for steroids. Panthers' general manager Marty Hurney said the team could not comment out of respect for ongoing federal and NFL investigations.

According to Panthers.com, Carolina Panthers OG Kevin Donnalley believes he is in great condition after training this offseason with the idea of maintaining an edge over the younger prospects on the depth chart. “The only leverage I have is my body, and I have to keep it in shape and every year come in just a little bit better shape so I can beat out people who are trying to take my job,” Donnalley said. Panthers head coach John Fox stated that Donnalley would be the team’s starter at right guard.

The Charlotte Observer reports although Carolina Panthers G Kevin Donnalley said several weeks ago that retirement is a possibility, he said this week he wants to remain with the Panthers. "I know I want to play. We just have to see how I fit in with the team and how they scout me and rate me in what they want to do," he said.

The Charlotte Observer reports Carolina Panthers G Kevin Donnalley said he would have surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee either today or next Wednesday. Doctors told Donnalley his rehabilitation would last nine months. "That puts me right at July," he said. "It's perfect." Team officials expect return specialist Steve Smith to be back at practice Wednesday. He sat out against the Jets with a sprained medial collateral ligament.

Carolina Panthers head coach George Seifert stated OL Kevin Donnalley (knee) will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the damage done to his right knee during Sunday's game against Washington. Seifert said it "didn't sound too good" in regards to the damage done. In other news, Seifert added LB Hannibal Navies (broken arm) may not be out for the year. Special teamer Steve Smith's knee injury is a sprained MCL.

Pat Yasinskas reports for the Charlotte Observer Carolina Panthers offensive line coach Paul Boudreau knows the team's offensive line has to quickly come together to aid the team's offense. Chris Terry is penciled in at right tackle and Jamar Nesbit, who played left guard last year, will compete with Bryan Stoltenberg and Leander Jordan at right guard. Todd Steussie will be at left tackle, Kevin Donnalley at left guard and Jeff Mitchell at center. The immediate success of the offensive line becomes even more important as the Panthers turn the offense over to a new QB.

The Charlotte Observer reports an all out blitz of phone calls by current Carolina Panthers players to free agent OT Todd Steussie convinced him to join the Panthers. QB Jeff Lewis and Steussie's former Vikings teammate, CB Jimmy Hitchcock, led the way. Team owner Jerry Richardson, team President Mark Richardson, coach George Seifert and offensive line coach Paul Boudreau also bombarded the Steussie with phone calls Wednesday afternoon. Steussie said Lewis was convincing because he sounded like a quarterback ready to emerge. Steussie will play left tackle and join newly signed free agents in C Jeff Mitchell and G Kevin Donnalley. They'll be joined by right tackle Chris Terry, while Jamar Nesbit, Bryan Stoltenberg and Leander Jordan will compete for the left guard job. Once Stuessie's contract is signed, the Panthers will have slightly more than $200,000 in cap space.

His price tag might be too high for the Panthers. Newly signed G Kevin Donnalley is expected to play right guard in Carolina. Jamar Nesbit, last year's starter at right guard, probably will compete with Bryan Stoltenberg and Leander Jordan for the starting left guard job.

As an update to previous stories, the Sun Sentinel reports the terms of the contracts signed by two free agents with the Miami Dolphins on Saturday. LB Derrick Rodgers was re-signed to a four-year contract believed to be worth $10 million, with a signing bonus believed to be $3 million. Former Chicago G Todd Perry was signed to a five-year, $7.6 million contract Saturday. Perry, who received a $1.5 million signing bonus, is expected to play right guard for the Dolphins after he played on the left side for the Bears. VP for player personnel Rick Spielman pretty much said Perry's signing ends G Kevin Donnalley's days with the Dolphins.

The Gaston Gazette reports after a quiet first day of free agency, the Carolina Panthers have scheduled a visit with free agent G Kevin Donnalley (Miami) for Tuesday at Ericsson Stadium. He played for Panthers offensive line coach Paul Boudreau for three seasons in Miami. The Panthers have also been in contact with the agents for several other players, including RB Charlie Garner (49ers), OT Richmond Webb (Miami) and DT D’Marco Farr, who was released by St. Louis, among others. The Panthers are pretty tight under the salary cap and may not be able to afford Garner. Special teams player Michael Bates is talking contract with the Panthers, but he is expected to visit a few teams as well.

The Sun-Sentinel reports the Dolphins appear to have unrestricted free agents DL Jason Taylor, PK Olindo Mare, DE Trace Armstrong and LB Derrick Rodgers at the top of their priority list of re-signing. The team would also like to re-sign OL Kevin Donnalley, FS Brock Marion and LT Richmond Webb, but they may all elect to cash in elsewhere. Taylor may receive the team's franchise tag if they can't sign him to a long-term deal. It's believed they're in negotiations with both Taylor and CB Patrick Surtain on long-term deals.

The Miami Herald reports Miami Dolphins DE Rich Owens (back spasms) missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday but hopes to practice some on Friday. He'll likely be replaced this weekend by DL Lorenzo Bromell. RT Todd Wade (calf), OL Mark Dixon (finger/groin), CB Terrance Shaw (knee) and OL Kevin Donnalley (neck) returned to practice Thursday. MRI tests on Shaw's knee came back negative.

The Palm Beach Post reports six players were kept out of practice on Wednesday because of injuries; LG Mark Dixon (groin, finger), RG Kevin Donnalley (neck), RT Todd Wade (calf), CB Terrance Shaw (sore knee) and DE Rich Owens (stiff back) missed the day's work but all are expected back at practice today, Thursday. Only WR Leslie Shepherd (knee surgery) is expected to miss Sunday's game. P Matt Turk missed practice for personal reasons but is expected to return on Thursday, too.

The Miami Dolphins have reached an agreement with guard Kevin Donnalley ($1.8 million guaranteed) to re-structure his contract. This year of his contract will be guaranteed. By redoing the contracts, the Dolphins have cleared an additional $4.2 million under the salary cap this year.
