San Diego Chargers LB Melvin Ingram (knee) was back at practice with teammates Wednesday, Nov. 20, going through individual drills for the first time this season after rehabbing from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Ingram feels like he could play in Week 12 against the Kansas City Chiefs but will leave it up to the coaching staff. "He's got a ways to go," head coach Mike McCoy said. "And I think he'll tell you the same thing -- whether it's conditioning level, or just the techniques and doing certain things and playing ball again. When you're out of it for that long, you knock some of the rust off on a daily basis."

San Diego Chargers LB Melvin Ingram (knee) is expected to start practicing with the team on a limited basis this week. He's currently on the Physically Unable to Perform list and the team has to decide by Tuesday, Nov. 19, whether to place him on season-ending Injured Reserve or start his 21-day practice period. The Chargers could activate him for their Dec. 12 game against the Denver Broncos if he isn't put on the IR.

The San Diego Chargers placed LB Melvin Ingram (knee) and SS Brandon Taylor (knee) on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list Wednesday, July 24. Ingram suffered his torn anterior cruciate ligament in May, and likely will begin the regular season on PUP, making him ineligible to return for at least the first six weeks. Taylor tore his ACL in December, and had surgery in January. He has a chance to return to practice during training camp, and potentially see action in the preseason.

San Diego Chargers LB Melvin Ingram (knee) is tentatively expected to undergo reconstruction surgery of his left anterior cruciate ligament next week, a source said. The renowned Dr. James Andrews will perform the operation. Ingram is expected to miss the 2013 season, before returning to the field in 2014 at or near full strength. LB Larry English is the current in-house leader to start in Ingram's place, although the club is looking into free agent possibilities, including free-agent LB Dwight Freeney (Colts).

San Diego Chargers rookie OLB Melvin Ingram started at strong-side linebacker in his NFL debut Thursday, Aug. 9, against the Green Bay Packers. He was on the field for long stretches and played deep into the third quarter. Ingram made an impact quickly, as he was a disruptive force from the outside. He eventually drew double teams on passing downs. Ingram also played well in pass coverage. Head coach Norv Turner said Ingram played at a high level and will only become more explosive as he becomes more comfortable on the field.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll went the unconventional route once again with the selection of DE Bruce Irvin in the first round. Irvin was considered a second-day pick and the Seahawks passed on the likes of Quinton Coples, Melvin Ingram and Chandler Jones, who were all available when they took Irvin, a situational pass rusher. Carroll said Irvin is the type of player who puts fear in offensive tackles. He is expected to solely be a pass rush option to begin with, but Carroll and general manager John Schneider believe he can eventually develop into an every-down end.

San Diego Chargers rookie OLB Melvin Ingram will play outside linebacker for the team. He is expected to improve their pass rush and their third-down defense. Ingram recorded 19 sacks and 26 tackles for a loss in the last two seasons at South Carolina. "He's a playmaker and he's going to bring the heat, which is what we're looking for," general manager A.J. Smiths said. Head coach Norv Turner said Ingram is the most versatile, complete linebacker in the draft.
The team plans to have OLBs Shaun Phillips and Jarret Johnson start at outside backer, but don't view Ingram and Antwan Barnes as backups at the position. The team also has OLBs Travis LaBoy and Larry English on roster. Smith said the team's goal is to have four or five outside linebackers that can rotate in and rush the passer. "Our goal is to try and get four of them creating havoc so that we can make it a little bit easier on the guys at the back end," Smith said.
