Buccaneers | Doug Martin ruled out Sunday vs. Denver

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 12:06:15 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) has been ruled out for the team's Week 4 game Sunday, Oct. 2, versus the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: Charles Sims owners can rejoice, as this ensures another steady workload for the 26-year-old. Even though he'll be matched up against Denver's elite defensive unit on Sunday, owners should also remember that he succeeded opposite a tough Rams defense only last week. He's a solid RB2 to deploy for as long as Martin remains sidelined.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin misses practice

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 16:41:19 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is expected to miss three weeks because of the injury, so Charles Sims will receive most of the work at running back. He should be considered a low-end No. 2 running back or a flex option in most leagues.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin out three weeks

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 05:15:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) is expected to miss three weeks due to his hamstring injury, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Charles Sims becomes a solid RB2 in PPR leagues. He has struggled with 13 rushes for 33 yards, but he has caught six balls for 36 yards and a touchdown. Jacquizz Rodgers could be a flex option against the Los Angeles Rams this weekend as well.

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 08:27:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) will have an MRI on his hamstring to determine the severity of the injury Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: This was the knock on Martin before last year's breakout. Check back for results, but expect Charles Sims to be more involved in Week 3 regardless. Sims is a decent PPR flex play.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin tweaks hamstring

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 18:50:57 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) said Sunday, Sept. 18, after the Week 2 game against the Arizona Cardinals that he suffered a "slight tweak" to his hamstring. He was unsure when he'd be able to return.

Fantasy Tip: Martin could have been pulled from the game due to the lopsided score. It doesn't sound terribly serious, but if he is forced to miss time Charles Sims would be the back to target for fantasy purposes in Tampa.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin doubtful to return

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 14:21:04 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury in Week 2 and is doubtful to return against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Martin draws the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, which would be a solid matchup. Keep an eye on his practice status, as the doubtful designation could be merely a precaution.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin totals 96 yards

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 20:49:16 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Doug Martin ran 18 times for 62 yards in the Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons, and he added five receptions for 34 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Martin didn't find the end zone, but the total yardage was decent. He should be treated as an RB2 in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals, a stingy rush defense.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin sitting Saturday

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 11:08:35 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (ribs) will not play Saturday, Aug. 20, against the Jacksonville Jaguars due to bruised ribs. The decision is strictly precautionary and Martin is expected to play against the Cleveland Browns next week.

Fantasy Tip: Not a huge deal. The Buccaneers want their running back fresh and healthy when the regular season begins. Martin was second in the NFL in rushing yards last year (1,402), and while his PPR value is hindered by Charles Sims, he's still a borderline RB1 option.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin has tough draw for opener

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 16:14:51 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin averaged just 3.5 yards per carry against the Atlanta Falcons last season, and he'll face them in Week 1. He had 48 carries for 166 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: Martin figures to have a featured role again after cashing in during the offseason, but he'll have company in the backfield. Charles Sims is expected to have a larger role this year. Martin slots in as a low-end RB1, but he'll have significant risk after last year's breakout leading to a big contract. Can he remain motivated to do it again? That's the question you'll have to answer on draft day.

Buccaneers | J.R. Sweezy ready to pave the way

Sun, 13 Mar 2016 18:56:59 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers OG J.R. Sweezy said he loves run blocking and is ready to help open lanes for RB Doug Martin.

Fantasy Tip: Health is the only question mark for Martin, but as the lead back for an up-and-coming offense, he is worth drafting as a high-end RB1.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin contract details

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 11:39:45 -0800

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin's five-year, $35.75 million deal includes $15 million in guaranteed money and $7.25 on average over three years. The maximum value of the deal is $42.5 million.

Fantasy Tip: As stated earlier, Martin was an elite running back last season in both real football and fake football. If he can maintain good health, Martin should be in the RB1 conversation in 2016.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin, Bucs agree to deal

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 11:30:31 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin and the Buccaneers have agreed on a five-year, $35 million deal, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is coming off a comeback campaign last year in which he ran for over 1,400 yards and six touchdowns. His 1,402 rushing yards were second in the NFL to Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson Martin should be used plenty again next season under new offensive-minded head coach Dirk Koetter. Martin remains in RB1 territory as long as he stays healthy.

Buccaneers | Bucs near deal with Doug Martin

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 21:32:42 -0800

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and free-agent RB Doug Martin are believed to be nearing a deal for around $6.85 million per season. Length of the deal is undisclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Martin finished second in the NFL in rushing yardage to Minnesota's Adrian Peterson and is about to get paid. However, he has had mixed results in his four years to date, lighting it up in his rookie season, followed by two injury-plagued seasons, and then a great 2015. If he remains healthy he is obviously a top-flight fantasy option, but have depth on hand in his brittle Doug shows up after having his wallet fattened.

Jaguars | Jacksonville looking for running back

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 12:10:41 -0800

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be a wild card in free agency when going after running backs, and they've been linked to Miami Dolphins impending free-agent RB Lamar Miller, New York Jets impending free-agent RB Chris Ivory and Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin. The Jaguars have a ton of money available this year.

Fantasy Tip: The Jags have confidence in second-year player T.J. Yeldon as a three-down back, but they wouldn't mind pairing another runner with him in the backfield. If Jacksonville brings someone else in, that'll obviously hurt Yeldon's fantasy value and make him more of an RB3 or 4.

49ers | Doug Martin an option for SF?

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 11:57:52 -0800

The San Francisco 49ers are a team to watch in the sweepstakes for Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin.

Fantasy Tip: Martin would have to split time with Carlos Hyde, which could drag both runners' fantasy value down. But under new head coach Chip Kelly's up-tempo offensive scheme, both could be solid second fantasy rushers, with Martin potentially being a low-end RB1.

Buccaneers | Chris Ivory of interest to Bucs

Mon, 07 Mar 2016 15:54:41 -0800

New York Jets impending free-agent RB Chris Ivory is of interest to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers if Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin does not re-sign.

Fantasy Tip: Both teams will be in dire need of a running back if Ivory and Martin leave their respective squads. Martin and Ivory are considered the two top free-agent running backs this year. Both will be fringe RB1s depending on who they play for next.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin hits the market

Mon, 07 Mar 2016 09:13:20 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin is hitting the free-agent market, and at least six teams are already interested in his services. The Bucs remain intent on re-signing him.

Fantasy Tip: Martin finished 2015 second in the league in rushing behind Adrian Peterson, and he should remain an RB1 no matter where he lands. Coming back to Tampa would be the most appealing for his fantasy value.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin should be free agent

Sat, 05 Mar 2016 11:59:24 -0800

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent Doug Martin is expected to make it to the legal tampering period of free agency Monday, March 7, barring an unforeseen development in negotiations.

Fantasy Tip: As stated earlier, Martin should be viewed as a borderline RB1 coming off a rebound season in 2015. Don't put a lot of stock into his fantasy value, though, until we know what his next team will be.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin talks not promising

Sat, 05 Mar 2016 11:32:08 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin's agent and general manager Jason Licht were unable to close the gap on a deal Saturday, March 5, in order to prevent Martin from hitting the free-agent market.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Martin will look for more money in free agency as he should be one of the two top free-agent running backs on the market this year, in addition to Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller. Martin is coming off a tremendous rebound campaign in 2015 and should see plenty of interest from several teams. Martin should still be a borderline RB1, depending on where he plays next.

Buccaneers | No tag for Doug Martin

Mon, 29 Feb 2016 14:46:06 -0800

Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin will not receive the franchise tag. Negotiations for a long-term deal are ongoing.

Fantasy Tip: It is already expected that Martin will forego a return to the Bucs and look for greener pastures -- greener as in more money. Martin is arguably the top free-agent running back on the market this year, though, so it's not too surprising that he may be leaving Tampa Bay. We'll wait to see who he signs with before gauging his fantasy value, but he shouldn't be considered less than a RB2 no matter where he plays.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin likely to leave Tampa Bay

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 13:59:26 -0800

Updating a previous story, Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin is likely to sign with another team on the first day of free agency, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The franchise tag for running backs is expected to be around $12 million, so Martin will probably hit the market if the two sides can't reach a long-term agreement. Martin could approach DeMarco Murray's five-year, $40 million deal from the Philadelphia Eagles last year, which would pretty much lock him into the workload of a fantasy RB1 regardless of where he winds up next month.

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 11:01:43 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin has met with the Buccaneers, but a deal isn't expected this week.

Fantasy Tip: Martin would be a mid-to-low RB1 if he re-ups with Tampa.

Buccaneers | Tampa optimistic on Doug Martin

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 10:45:51 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht plans to meet with impending free-agent RB Doug Martin and his representatives at the NFL Scouting Combine this week, and he admitted that there could be stumbling blocks to re-signing Martin. However, there is mutual interest in a reunion, and Licht is optimistic that they'll get something done. Head coach Dirk Koetter is also hopeful Martin will return.

Fantasy Tip: Staying in Tampa is probably the best for Martin's value. He's an RB1 with upside after finishing second in rushing yards in 2015.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin looking for big deal

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 11:39:56 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin likely will look for more than $6 or $7 million per season from the Buccaneers if they want to re-sign him.

Fantasy Tip: There appears to be a chance that Martin could sign with another team if he does not receive what he is looking for from the Buccaneers. Martin should be a starting running back for some team next season and would be an early-round pick in most drafts.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin talks to begin soon

Sat, 20 Feb 2016 17:54:09 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin's agent will meet with general manager Jason Licht will meet at the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine to discuss a potential deal.

Fantasy Tip: All signs point to Martin hitting the open market, but regardless of where he plays in 2016, he will have RB1 upside, albeit with health concerns.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin unlikely to see tag

Thu, 18 Feb 2016 07:29:47 -0800

Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin has almost no chance of receiving the franchise tag. The franchise tag would be worth around $12 million.

Fantasy Tip: Martin proved to be an RB1 in 2015, but he has a pretty shaky history of futility and injuries. Then again, there aren't many slam dunks at the position anymore.

Buccaners | Tag unlikely for Doug Martin

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 16:57:11 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin is unlikely to receive the franchise tag before free agency opens. The expected price to tag Martin for one year is in the $12 million range.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Martin will be available as an unrestricted free agent. He could still decide to re-sign with the Buccaneers if/when he does test the market. His fantasy value is obviously still undecided, but he's a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 as of now.

Mon, 15 Feb 2016 08:06:26 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin is seeking more than $7 million per year to re-sign with Tampa.

Fantasy Tip: Martin re-established himself as an RB1 this past season, and he could go in the top couple of rounds in drafts.

Buccaneers | Tampa can afford Doug Martin

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 11:12:42 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent RB Doug Martin would cost the Bucs around $11.5 million if they give him the franchise tag, and that is a figure that Tampa can afford with plenty of salary cap space available this year.

Fantasy Tip: The Bucs would be wise not to let Martin get away after he was second in rushing in 2015 with 1,402 yards on 288 carries. If Martin remains in Tampa in a promising up-and-coming offense with young quarterback Jameis Winston at the helm, he'd be an RB1 for fantasy purposes.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin to hit the market?

Thu, 11 Feb 2016 21:08:44 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin isn't close to agreeing on a contract extension, and Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times believes Martin will test the free-agent market.

Fantasy Tip: The two sides could ultimately agree on a deal, and the Buccaneers could use the franchise tag on Martin. If he ends up back in Tampa Bay, he should be a solid RB1 in an offense with some developing young weapons.

Titans | Tennessee interested in Doug Martin?

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 12:24:37 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent running back Doug Martin may draw interest from the Tennessee Titans this offseason, in the opinion of Terry McCormick of TitansOnline.com. New Titans general manager Jon Robinson is coming off a fresh stint as director of player personnel with the Buccaneers, so he and Martin are acquainted.

Fantasy Tip: It's highly unlikely that the Bucs will let Martin go after the season he had in 2015. If they can't work out a long-term deal right away, Tampa Bay can use their franchise tag on Martin and negotiate a long-term deal later. Martin remains a RB1 for next season.

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 18:37:18 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin said he wants to sign a new deal to stay with the team but would also play if he is given the franchise tag.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is coming off an excellent year, and despite some injury risk, he is a solid RB1 candidate if he returns to a Tampa Bay offense that has a young, improving core.

Buccaneers | TB talking extension with Doug Martin

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 19:05:21 -0800

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and RB Doug Martin's representatives have started discussing a contract extension. Martin, who is slated to be a free agent in 2016, finished second for the league rushing title behind Adrian Peterson. He also scored six touchdowns. If the team cannot work out an extension they do not plan on using the franchise tag on him.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has had two Pro Bowl seasons, his rookie season and last season, and two injury-plagued seasons in between. It has been a mixed bag of fantasy results, but when he is in there for the full slate he has been tremendous.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin endorsed by head coach

Sat, 16 Jan 2016 20:14:32 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter said during his introductory press conference that he wants RB Doug Martin to be re-signed this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Martin piled up more than 1,600 yards from scrimmage this year, and with Koetter moving from offensive coordinator to head coach, Martin should continue to have a featured role in the offensive and provide RB1 value if he is back with Tampa Bay in 2016.

Mon, 04 Jan 2016 14:00:37 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin finished the 2015 season with 1,673 total yards and seven total touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Martin really bounced back this season after playing in just 17 games the last two seasons. He finished comfortable in RB1 territory in both standard and PPR leagues and is worth RB1 consideration again next season.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin has extension talks

Sat, 02 Jan 2016 08:35:00 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin has recently had contract extension talks with the team, according to general manager Jason Licht. The two sides are only in the early stages at this point, but Martin has indicated that he is interested in returning to the team.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ($8,000, 16.0% of cap) currently ranks second in the NFL with 1,354 rushing yards and has scored a touchdown in three of his last four games. He should be a solid starting option for owners on FantasyScore this week and will be an early-round pick next year no matter where he plays.

Buccaneers | OC wants Doug Martin back

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 19:21:57 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin will be a free agent after the season ends, and offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter wants him back. "I'll lobby hard," Koetter said Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ($8,000, 16.0% of cap) enters Week 17 ranked second in rushing yards behind Minnesota's Adrian Peterson with one game to go. Martin certainly emerged as a must-start fantasy option this season, and just in time for a giant payday from someone in the upcoming offseason.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin limited to 49 yards, TD

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 18:41:51 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin rushed 17 times for just 49 yards in the Week 16 game against the Chicago Bears, although he was able to find the end zone once. He also had a six-yard catch on his only reception with three targets.

Fantasy Tip: Martin didn't pile up the yardage for his fantasy owners in Week 16, and he lost two fumbles which certainly did not help. It wasn't a total bust, but it wasn't great. He might have another ordinary stat line in Week 17 against the Carolina Panthers.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin finished with 18 carries for 91 yards and one catch for six yards in a 31-23 loss to the St. Louis Rams in Week 15.

Fantasy Tip: Martin gashed the St. Louis defense, but the Buccaneers were forced to abandon the run early in the second half after falling behind. Still, Martin managed to top 90 yards for the fourth time in five games and continues to be one of the safest options at FantasyScore.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin had 11 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown and one catch for five yards in a 24-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has topped 80 yards in four straight and is now averaging more than five yards per carry on the year. He has become one of the steadier backs available at FantasyScore the last few weeks.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin rushed 25 times for 95 yards and a touchdown in the Week 13 game against the Atlanta Falcons. He also had a five-yard reception.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has re-emerged as a must-start fantasy option this season, and he has at least 95 rushing yards in each of his past three games. He faces the New Orleans Saints in Week 14, and the Saints rank last in the NFL in rush defense allowing 137.8 yards per game.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin ran 14 times for 97 yards and eclipsed the 1,000-yard plateau Sunday, Nov. 29, in a 25-12 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) has found a second life with Jameis Winston at quarterback, as Winston uses Martin effectively in the running game. Keep Martin in your lineup as much as possible unless the defensive matchup proves to be too much.

Buccaneers | Tampa wants Doug Martin to return

Mon, 23 Nov 2015 15:40:08 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin is a player the team wants to re-sign this offseason even though they declined to pick up the fifth-year option in his contract. Martin currently ranks second in the NFL with 941 rushing yards.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has become one of the better running backs in fantasy this season and is coming off a 235-yard performance in his last game. He will be facing the Indianapolis Colts in Week 12 and should be a solid starting option for owners.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin had 27 carries for 235 yards in a 45-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 11, becoming the third player since the merger to have two career games of at least 235 rushing yards.

Fantasy Tip: After three mediocre outings, Martin exploded against the Eagles. His inconsistent play makes him a nightmare for fantasy owners, but his upside is undeniable.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin has great first half

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 11:38:02 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin rushed for 177 yards on 12 carries in the first half of Tampa Bay's Week 11 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday, Nov. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has a knack for gaining big chunks of yardage here and there, and he's had a couple of big runs so far today in a not-so-easy matchup with the Eagles. Charles Sims does take some of his PPR value away, but Martin should be considered an every-week starter.
