Buccaneers | Doug Martin turning it up

Mon, 28 Nov 2016 05:46:36 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin rushed 23 times for 87 yards against the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Nov. 27. He caught two balls for three yards and lost a fumble as well.

Fantasy Tip: He has carried the ball 24 and 23 times in respective weeks, and yesterday's 3.8 yards per carry was a season high. He has a good matchup against the San Diego Chargers next week as an RB2.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin totals 105 yards

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 19:16:46 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) rushed 24 times for 63 yards in the Week 11 game against the Kansas City Chiefs and he added three receptions for 42 yards on four targets.

Fantasy Tip: The 27 touches was a good sign that Martin's hamstring issue is official behind him. He'll face a big test when the Seattle Seahawks come calling to Raymond James Stadium in Week 12. Treat him more as a flex fantasy option in that matchup.

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 14:21:40 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin ran 16 times for 33 yards and scored a 1-yard touchdown in his return to the gridiron Sunday, Nov. 13. The Buccaneers beat the Chicago Bears, 36-10.

Fantasy Tip: Martin wasn't expected to do much his first game back from hamstring issues, so the touchdown was a bonus. Martin will improve as time goes on, barring injury, so monitor how the team uses him,

Buccaneers | Doug Martin active for Week 10

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 08:58:21 -0800

Confirming previous reports, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) will be active for Week 10's game against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is active for the first time since Week 2 and has a somewhat unfavorable matchup this week against a Chicago defense that has been strong against the run this year. He is also expected to have a limited workload, so daily fantasy gamers should look for safer options.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin to have limited workload

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 07:22:01 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) is expected to be active for Week 10's game against the Chicago Bears, although his workload is likely to be limited, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has been sidelined since Week 2 and will be facing a tough Chicago run defense in his first game back, making him a risky play in all formats. RBs Peyton Barber and Mike James are also expected to see carries but neither player should be considered a viable fantasy option.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin will dress

Sat, 12 Nov 2016 12:23:47 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) will be active for the game Sunday, Nov. 13, against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Considering he was limited in practice this week, it's unlikely that he'll have a full load. The Bears have been good against opposing running backs, and Martin is a very risky flex option in Week 10.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin unlikely to play Week 10

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 12:41:01 -0800

Updating a previous story, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) was still doing rehab work during the portions of practice open to the media this week and doesn't appear prepared to play, according to the Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud.

Fantasy Tip: It seems very likely Tampa Bay will sit Martin out this week and hope he can get in a full practice or two next week. Peyton Barber and Mike James should see the bulk of backfield work this weekend against the Chicago Bears.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin to be game-time decision

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 11:23:09 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) has yet to be cleared to play and will be a game-time decision, according to head coach Dirk Koetter.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has not played since Week 2 and been limited in practice all week, so there is virtually no chance he'll be asked to carry a significant workload this weekend against the Chicago Bears. Even if Martin plays, owners should expect Peyton Barber to get the start and Mike James to see some work as well.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin participates in practice

Thu, 10 Nov 2016 16:07:10 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) participated in practice on a limited basis for the second straight day Thursday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Even though he was only limited again, it's still good news that Martin was able to get in another practice, considering he's missed the last six games. The Muscle Hamster also said after Wednesday's session that he was feeling "fine," which could be an indication that he's ready to get back on the field. With Jacquizz Rodgers likely out again this weekend, Martin can be plugged back into lineups in all leagues as long as he is active.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin looking to do more

Thu, 10 Nov 2016 08:50:09 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) plans to do more in practice Thursday, Nov. 10, and felt fine after his first practice Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: The signs are that the team is going to tread cautiously with Martin after his season has mostly been a wash due to recurring hamstring strains. If he plays, he'll likely be limited, and he's probably not the best flex option against the Chicago Bears.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin uncertain for Week 10

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 21:27:01 -0800

Updating a previous report, while Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday, Nov. 9, it remains too early to tell if Martin would be cleared to return for the Week 10 game against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners will want to wait and see Martin play at least one full game without any setbacks before trusting him in the active lineup again.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin listed as limited

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 16:10:47 -0800

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) was limited during practice Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has missed most of the season because of the injury but has a chance to play in Week 10 as long as he does not suffer a setback. Martin may be part of a committee at running back if he is active this week and could be at least a flex option for owners.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin on the field

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 11:16:05 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) is participating in practice Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has not played since Week 2 because of his hamstring injury, so his status for Week 10 is uncertain at this time. He may be eased back into the offense if he is active for Week 10. Owners will need to check on his status later in the week to see if he will be in uniform.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin out of practice

Mon, 07 Nov 2016 07:48:06 -0800

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) was out of practice Monday, Nov. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is iffy to suit up against the Chicago Bears in Week 10. If he's able to go, though, he'd be a flex consideration.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin to practice soon?

Fri, 04 Nov 2016 21:51:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) could return to practice next week, and head coach Dirk Koetter said there is optimism Martin could return to action against the Chicago Bears in Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: Tampa Bay's backfield has been decimated by injuries, and Martin should return to a big workload whenever he is healthy. He could provide a spark to fantasy lineups down the stretch.

Wed, 02 Nov 2016 11:58:41 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 2, and has been ruled out for Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Peyton Barber and Antone Smith likely will be involved in the running game against the Atlanta Falcons. It is not known which running back will receive the majority of the carries, but Smith did receive more work than Barber in Week 8. Owners in deeper leagues can consider Smith as risky flex option.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin sidelined

Tue, 01 Nov 2016 14:28:22 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) did not practice Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Martin will probably miss another game, and his counterpart Jacquizz Rodgers looks doubtful to play, too. Peyton Barber, Antone Smith and Mike James could all see playing time on Thursday night if Martin and Rodgers can't go, but Barber is the better bet if one really needs to play a Tampa Bay back.

Buccaneers | No practice for Doug Martin

Mon, 31 Oct 2016 16:50:35 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) did not practice Monday, Oct. 31. Martin's status is an estimation as the Buccaneers did not practice.

Fantasy Tip: It will be tough for Martin to play this week since the Bucs play on Thursday night. Jaquizz Rodgers is hampered, too, so Peyton Barber could quickly turn into a sleeper play, particularly in daily formats, if both Martin and Rodgers are ruled out.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) has been ruled out for the team's Week 8 contest Sunday, Oct. 30, versus the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: It will be the fifth consecutive game on the sidelines for the Muscle Hamster. In his place, expect Jacquizz Rodgers to once again carry the load as a potential RB1. He's logged two straight 100-yard efforts on the ground in Martin's absence.

Buccaneers | No practice for Doug Martin

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 16:08:25 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Martin's status for Week 8 will not be known until later in the week, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. Martin may be eased back into the lineup if he is active this week and would be a risky option. Jacquizz Rodgers would receive another start if Martin is ruled out and could be a No. 2 running back or a flex option for owners.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin to be treated cautiously

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 07:33:36 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) is expected to be treated cautiously in his return from his hamstring injury.

Fantasy Tip: If you drafted Martin, you don't have much choice but to wait it out. Jacquizz Rodgers is playing well in his place, and the team can afford to pump the brakes to avoid another re-injury. Rodgers is a solid RB3 if you own him.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin suffered a setback

Wed, 19 Oct 2016 20:11:12 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) suffered an injury setback a week ago, head coach Dirk Koetter said Wednesday, Oct. 19. Martin does not have a timetable for his return.

Fantasy Tip: With Martin still on the shelf, and Charles Sims out, it will be Jacquizz Rodgers seeing a lion's share of the carries against the league's worst-ranked rush defense. They have allowed 174.5 yards per game with nine rushing touchdowns.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin out of practice

Mon, 17 Oct 2016 07:24:34 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) is out of practice Monday, Oct. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Martin could be back this week after missing a month due to a hamstring injury. Jacquizz Rodgers was huge in Week 5 before the bye, and he should remain in the fold initially. Both are flex considerations against the San Francisco 49ers.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin ruled out Week 6

Mon, 10 Oct 2016 11:46:02 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 6 versus the Carolina Panthers.

Fantasy Tip: As expected. Martin is expected to return after the team's Week 6 bye. Given the Bucs' relatively light running-game schedule over the second half of the season, Martin is a good buy-low.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin doubtful

Sat, 08 Oct 2016 12:36:14 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for the team's Week 5 game.

Fantasy Tip: It appears like Martin will miss at least one more game, but owners will need to check on his status next week. Jacquizz Rodgers is expected to start at running back because of the injuries at the position. Rodgers could be a flex option in some leagues because of his big-play ability.

Buccaneers | No practice for Doug Martin

Sat, 08 Oct 2016 09:57:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) did not practice Saturday, Oct. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Martin was expected to sit out through the team's Week 6 bye and it appears that is exactly what will happen. With Charles Sims also expected to miss Monday night's game against the Carolina Panthers, Jacquizz Rodgers could be in line to start and handle 10 to 15 touches. The Bucs have a pretty favorable run schedule over the second half of the season, so owners should consider buying low on Martin.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin still out

Tue, 04 Oct 2016 08:19:16 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (groin) was out of practice Tuesday, Oct. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is unlikely to return this week, and this would be the third game he misses with a projected three-game absence. The Bucs are on a bye next week, and he could return in Week 6. Charles Sims and Jacquizz Rodgers are weak flex options against the Carolina Panthers this week.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin likely to miss another week

Mon, 03 Oct 2016 09:21:17 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) has not practiced in two weeks and appears unlikely to return in time to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 5 either, according to The Tampa Bay Times' Greg Auman.

Fantasy Tip: While Auman suggests there may be some "window" for Martin to return this week, the Bucs go on a bye the following week, meaning there is little reason to rush him back. Charles Sims should get one more game to be the featured back against the Panthers, and he should be considered a high-upside RB2 in that matchup despite a disappointing day against the Denver Broncos in Week 4.

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 12:06:15 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) has been ruled out for the team's Week 4 game Sunday, Oct. 2, versus the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: Charles Sims owners can rejoice, as this ensures another steady workload for the 26-year-old. Even though he'll be matched up against Denver's elite defensive unit on Sunday, owners should also remember that he succeeded opposite a tough Rams defense only last week. He's a solid RB2 to deploy for as long as Martin remains sidelined.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin out three weeks

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 05:15:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) is expected to miss three weeks due to his hamstring injury, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Charles Sims becomes a solid RB2 in PPR leagues. He has struggled with 13 rushes for 33 yards, but he has caught six balls for 36 yards and a touchdown. Jacquizz Rodgers could be a flex option against the Los Angeles Rams this weekend as well.

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 08:27:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) will have an MRI on his hamstring to determine the severity of the injury Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: This was the knock on Martin before last year's breakout. Check back for results, but expect Charles Sims to be more involved in Week 3 regardless. Sims is a decent PPR flex play.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin tweaks hamstring

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 18:50:57 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) said Sunday, Sept. 18, after the Week 2 game against the Arizona Cardinals that he suffered a "slight tweak" to his hamstring. He was unsure when he'd be able to return.

Fantasy Tip: Martin could have been pulled from the game due to the lopsided score. It doesn't sound terribly serious, but if he is forced to miss time Charles Sims would be the back to target for fantasy purposes in Tampa.

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 14:21:04 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury in Week 2 and is doubtful to return against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Martin draws the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, which would be a solid matchup. Keep an eye on his practice status, as the doubtful designation could be merely a precaution.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin totals 96 yards

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 20:49:16 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Doug Martin ran 18 times for 62 yards in the Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons, and he added five receptions for 34 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Martin didn't find the end zone, but the total yardage was decent. He should be treated as an RB2 in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals, a stingy rush defense.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin sitting Saturday

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 11:08:35 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (ribs) will not play Saturday, Aug. 20, against the Jacksonville Jaguars due to bruised ribs. The decision is strictly precautionary and Martin is expected to play against the Cleveland Browns next week.

Fantasy Tip: Not a huge deal. The Buccaneers want their running back fresh and healthy when the regular season begins. Martin was second in the NFL in rushing yards last year (1,402), and while his PPR value is hindered by Charles Sims, he's still a borderline RB1 option.
