Buccaneers | Doug Martin to be bell cow

Mon, 31 Mar 2014 09:22:56 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith expects RB Doug Martin to be the team's leading rusher again this season. "I think you have to have a bell cow," Smith said. "(Martin) is ours. At the running back position, there's enough reps to go around. We want three guys we feel comfortable with. Two will play, but it's not a rotation that where every series we're going to have a different guy in there. We'll have a starter, then we'll have a backup that will give him quality backup minutes."

Fantasy Tip: Mike James and Bobby Rainey filled in nicely for Martin when he was out last year, but they aren't your prototypical lead backs. Martin is, and this news should have been expected if he was fully healthy. He'll likely come at a cheaper price this year as your RB1.

Buccaneers | Optimistic about Doug Martin

Thu, 24 Oct 2013 13:27:18 -0700

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are optimistic that they'll have RB Doug Martin (shoulder) back at some point this season since they play one game in the next 18 days after their Week 8 contest Thursday, Oct. 24. Martin will strengthen his shoulder and wear a harness over the next 18 days, and the target date for his return is Nov. 11. If he experiences a setback, he'll be shut down for the season.

Fantasy Tip: Good news for Martin owners. Continue to keep him stashed on your roster. In the meantime, if you haven't already, Mike James is the waiver wire addition if you need another body at the RB spot. He'll receive the majority of work in Martin's absence.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin feeling positive about return

Tue, 22 Oct 2013 18:46:57 -0700

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (shoulder) said Tuesday, Oct. 22, that his shoulder injury isn't necessarily of the season-ending variety. "No," Martin said. "Right now, I'm doing treatment on it with the trainers and taking it day by day and seeing how it feels. It's definitely gotten better. And my range of motion has increased day to day." The Buccaneers have not yet confirmed that Martin has tore his labrum and would be out for the season. Martin's left arm remains in a sling.

Fantasy Tip: Martin is still not expected to play in Week 8, or for a very long time for that matter. It sounds like there is a sliver of hope he isn't done for the year, but Martin's owners and those needing help at RB should pound the waiver wire trying to secure Mike James.

Buccaneers | Doug Martin likely out a few weeks

Mon, 21 Oct 2013 08:05:08 -0700

Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (shoulder) is likely to miss several weeks with what is initially being deemed a serious shoulder injury.

Fantasy Tip: There are reports that Martin may have a torn labrum, so this could be something more serious than just a few weeks - it could be season-ending. Mike James should be picked up in all formats, but temper your expectations. Martin wasn't playing particularly well in the dismal offense. James shouldn't be viewed as more than a RB3 or flex player.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin carried 27 times for just 45 yards in the Week 4 loss against the Arizona Cardinals. He also added three receptions for 16 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has been fine from a fantasy perspective, at least through the first three games, but it is a bit troubling he has yet to find the end zone. Still, he remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues, as his trade value is rather low right now, and you certainly cannot drop him.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Martin avoided a major injury and should be on track to be ready for the start of the season. The team could hold him out of the next preseason game just to be on the safe side. Martin should still be a first-round pick in all fantasy leagues.

Buccaneers | Team gives little info on Doug Martin

Fri, 16 Aug 2013 19:51:11 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers reported RB Doug Martin (head) suffered a "hard hit" in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 16, against the New England Patriots, and was ruled out for the rest of the game. Martin took a shot to the head from the knee of a defender, and was taken to the locker room for evaluation.

Fantasy Tip: There will be an update on Martin, likely Saturday, so hang tight if you're a fantasy owner. Martin is a Top 5 fantasy pick in all formats, so this would be huge news if he is out for any significant amount of time. If you plan to draft Martin this weekend, make sure to nab Peyton Hillis or Brian Leonard in the later rounds just to cover your bases.
