Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy said he hopes for a full and fair chance to compete for the team's starting quarterback job, even though QB Brandon Weeden appears to be the favorite. "This is the card that's been dealt," McCoy said regarding his status. "I can just say that I'm working as hard as I can. You never know what to expect. One of my favorite quotes by the NAVY Seals is, 'The only easy day was yesterday.' That's just kind of how I have to live right now."

Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden had a strong rookie minicamp, and head coach Pat Shurmur said Weeden is making a strong case for himself in his pursuit of the starting job. "There's no question I think he's headed in the right direction," Shurmur said. "He showed us in the first minicamp that he can throw the ball in this league, and now we'll get a chance to see him interact with the team, the full squad, and see how he does."

I met Seneca, so I'm looking forward to just being part of the other quarterbacks."

Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden threw the ball well at both practices Friday, May 11, but he struggled working under center. Weeden fumbled twice during the afternoon practice. He spent the past two seasons at Oklahoma State playing out of the shotgun.

Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren said rookie QB Brandon Weeden must earn the team's starting job this season; he'll still have to beat out QBs Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace for the job. "We drafted a young quarterback that we think can come in and play right away, but we're not just going to hand him the football," Holmgren said. "I still love Colt McCoy (but) we had a chance to get a mature quarterback who has a chance to come in and contribute right away. Whether that happens or not we have to let it play out."

"I have a long way to go, but I feel like I've taken the right steps to get to where I can play at that level. If I'm asked to be the guy Day One, I'm going to do everything on my part to put our team in position to win games and score points. I'm really anxious to get going and the season will be here before you know it."
