Wed, 22 May 2013 15:58:11 -0700 Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick, who held onto the ball for an average of 3.07 seconds last year, will likely have to change in order to be successful in head coach Chip Kelly's new offense. Kelly, while at Oregon, preached that his quarterbacks were urged to get the ball out of their hands in 1.5 seconds. "I think there is a lot more to Michael," Kelly said back in February. "I think quarterbacks are a byproduct of their experience. But to sit here and say I understood the system that Michael's been in whether he's with the Falcons under Coach (Dan) Reeves or here, that depends on the system that you run. Some of the systems that they run they don't ask him to get the ball out quick. Do I think he can get the ball out quick? I think he's got an unbelievable release. It's up and out and it's quick." Vick has had success in his career in waiting for plays to develop down the field, but the new offense will be a stark contrast to that. To help him become ready for the new season, Vick spent time simulating running an up-tempo offense consisting of read options and even added some muscle to his frame. Vick also did some boxing training to learn how to avoid taking big hits. The early reports out of practice have been positive for Vick. Fantasy Tip: Vick will have some competition in training camp from Nick Foles, but we all expect this to be Vick's job to lose. He gives the Eagles and Kelly the most athleticism in this offense, if he can adapt to his new role. The work that Vick has already put in lends optimism to the chances that he can do this and become successful. How successful this offense can be against opponents is another story altogether, though. For now, consider Vick an intriguing late-round selection that has the potential to be a very good backup QB.
Mon, 20 May 2013 12:18:06 -0700 Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles received 21 snaps with the first-team offense during organized team activities Monday, May 20, while QB Michael Vick received 15 snaps. Fantasy Tip: Foles and Vick have been splitting work with the starting offense since offseason workouts have begun. Foles likely would be a weak backup in fantasy leagues if he wins the job. Vick would be a borderline fantasy starter or a solid backup if he wins the job.
Fri, 17 May 2013 10:17:27 -0700 Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick looks motivated to succeed this year. "(Vick's) noticeably bigger and enthused about the offense," Philadelphia Inquirer's Zach Berman writes. Vick was in a system that had less designed runs for him last year, but the offense under new head coach Chip Kelly could play better to his strengths with an improved offensive line. Vick took snaps with the first team during organized team activities this week, and he's the favorite to start in Week 1 over QB Nick Foles. Fantasy Tip: Vick will see some competition from Foles, but it appears to be Vick's job to lose during training camp. Kelly's new scheme should make the most of Vick's mobility and playmaking abilities, but his production will hinge on whether he can reduce his turnovers and stay healthy. With a late-round pick, he's worth gambling on as a QB2.
Mon, 13 May 2013 12:04:22 -0700 Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said QBs Michael Vick and Nick Foles split reps with the first-team offense during organized team activities Monday, May 13. Fantasy Tip: Vick and Foles likely will be involved in a competition for the starting quarterback job leading up to the start of the regular season. Vick would be a borderline fantasy starter or a solid backup if he wins the job while Foles would be a weak No. 2 or No. 3 quarterback if he won the job. Matt Barkley could also get involved in the competition at some point.
Mon, 13 May 2013 08:57:18 -0700 Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles is taking snaps with the first team Monday, May 13. QB Michael Vick is working with the second team.
Thu, 09 May 2013 14:10:15 -0700 Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin said QB Michael Vick has gotten most of the first-team reps with QB Nick Foles getting first-team reps sprinkled in. Fantasy Tip: No surprise here with how the snaps are being split at this point, but the real test will be how they are split in training camp and preseason games. For now, it is safe to assume Vick has the edge on the starting job, and that should be reflected on your draft boards.
Wed, 24 Apr 2013 14:24:55 -0700 Florida State QB EJ Manuel has seen his draft stock soar of the final week heading into the 2013 NFL Draft, and he was considered a second-day pick that could fall into the third or fourth round a few months ago. The Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets have shown interest and they all pick within the first 15 picks. "They want me pretty bad," Manuel said of the Eagles. Manuel would be an extreme reach for Philadelphia's fourth overall pick, though, since they already have QBs Michael Vick and Nick Foles on roster. However, some analysts think Manuel will be gone by the Eagles' 35th overall pick in the second round. The Jets also have two first-round picks, the Browns pick sixth overall and the Bills have the eighth selection.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 12:32:59 -0700 Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick said he still believe the team is his, even though he is splitting first team snaps with QB Nick Foles and QB Dennis Dixon. "I look at it as it's still my team, still my job," Vick said.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 05:44:26 -0700 Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said Tuesday, April 16, following his first practice with the team he is in no rush to name a starting quarterback for the 2013 season. Kelly wants to create competition between QBs Michael Vick, Nick Foles and even Dennis Dixon. "There wasn't one set guy that just went with the ones the entire day," Kelly said. "All those guys got an opportunity to roll through ... It's April 16, so we're not playing until next September. We're going to use the full available time for us to make a full evaluation of what it is. I think it fosters competition. I think those guys love competition. That's why they're in that position, and they know it."
Tue, 16 Apr 2013 11:57:21 -0700 Philadelphia Eagles QB's Michael Vick and Nick Foles both split time taking first team reps at the team's minicamp Tuesday, April 16, according to head coach Chip Kelly. Kelly said that QB Dennis Dixon even got a first team rep. Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on how the first team reps are split the rest of the summer as you start to put together your draft board, although it would not be a surprise if the Eagles kept quiet on what their plans were for the position.
