Dolphins | Kenyan Drake may go on short-term IR

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 08:40:11 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake (hamstring) may be a candidate for the short-term Injured Reserve list if the team wants to keep RBs Isaiah Pead and Damien Williams on the 53-man roster. Drake has missed most of training camp because of a hamstring injury.

Fantasy Tip: Drake was expected to have a decent role on offense when he was drafted but the addition of Arian Foster and his injury likely have affected the team's plans for him. He could still be a late-round option in deeper point-per-reception leagues if he is healthy but probably can be avoided in most leagues.

Dolphins | Isaiah Pead turning heads

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 19:16:55 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Isaiah Pead was originally just supposed to be a camp body with a small chance of winning a roster spot, but he is doing whatever he can to force head coach Adam Gase into a tough roster decision. He led the team in yards from scrimmage (78) for the second straight preseason game. He even received first-team snaps, which might indicate he is on the right side of the roster bubble. "Every time he gets in the game, he seems to pop one," Gase said. "I've been very impressed with him. When he gets in the game, I'm thinking, 'Let's call plays for him and try to give him a chance to show his skill set'."

Fantasy Tip: Pead is still behind Jay Ajayi, Arian Foster and draft pick Kenyan Drake, and Damien Williams remains in the mix, too. If the team elects to keep five tailbacks, Pead could very well make the team, but his role will certainly dry up once the games count for real and so will his fantasy appeal.

Dolphins | Two Miami RBs sit Thursday

Thu, 04 Aug 2016 07:08:06 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi (knee) and RB Isaiah Pead (undisclosed) are out of practice Thursday, Aug. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Ajayi figures to split the load with Arian Foster. Both of those backs are worth RB3 looks in fantasy. Pead isn't guaranteed to make the team and isn't worth taking in fantasy drafts.

Dolphins | Isaiah Pead nicked up

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 07:08:54 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Isaiah Pead (undisclosed) left practice Monday, Aug. 1, and he's being evaluated by trainers.

Fantasy Tip: Pead will likely need a good camp to make the club, and he isn't worth a fantasy grab for now.

Dolphins | Isaiah Pead running with starters

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 06:42:30 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Isaiah Pead is working with the starting unit Monday, Aug. 1, while RB Jay Ajayi (knee) is sidelined. RB Arian Foster spelled Pead with the second unit.

Fantasy Tip: Pead will likely need a good camp to make the club, and they're still probably easing Foster in. Ajayi and Foster figure to be the bulk of the timeshare, and Kenyon Drake will probably slot in afterwards. Ajayi and Foster are in the high-end RB3 range, and Drake is an RB5 flyer. Pead isn't worth a fantasy grab for now.

Dolphins | Isaiah Pead working with first-team offense

Sun, 31 Jul 2016 06:04:50 -0700

Miami Dolphins RB Isaiah Pead received plenty of repetitions with the first-team offense Sunday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: It's likely ill-advised to read too much into Pead's early involvement with the starting offense. He has just 19 rushing attempts during his career and Jay Ajayi, Arian Foster, Kenyon Drake and Damien Williams ahead of him on the depth chart. At this point, Pead is just a player to watch.

Dolphins | Miami signing Isaiah Pead

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 13:45:53 -0700

Free-agent RB Isaiah Pead (Steelers) is signing an undisclosed deal with the Miami Dolphins Thursday, March 31, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: It's not quite the same caliber running back as Lamar Miller or C.J. Anderson, but Pead is a solid backup running back with special teams intrigue and a passing-game prowess. Miami could still sign and/or draft another running back, too, but Pead is a deep sleeper for now.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell to IR, Isaiah Pead signs

Mon, 02 Nov 2015 11:21:55 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Nov. 2, and free-agent RB Isaiah Pead (Rams) was signed to an undisclosed deal in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: You can safely drop Bell in all redraft formats. Pead is nothing more than depth for Pittsburgh's ground game. DeAngelo Williams is the one you want to own now, and he should be picked up immediately in all formats. He performed very well in Bell's two-game absence to start the season and can put up RB1 numbers in the right matchups.

Steelers | Le'Veon Bell likely out for year

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 19:07:09 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) expected to be put on the season-ending Reserve/Injured list with a knee injury, pending MRI confirmation. RB Isaiah Pead is in line to take his spot on the roster.

Fantasy Tip: With Bell likely done for the year, DeAngelo Williams ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is in line for a big boost in carries. Pick him up if he is available, and he could make a solid option at FantasyScore going forward depending on his price tag.

Rams | Isaiah Pead could be dumped by Rams

Sun, 08 Feb 2015 17:18:29 -0800

The St. Louis Rams might consider releasing RB Isaiah Pead this offseason. The move would create just under $941,000 of additional cap space. The club has RBs Tre Mason, Benny Cunningham, Zac Stacy and Trey Watts on the roster, and Pead hasn't had much impact since being drafted in the second round in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Pead has been a huge disappointment, and he is well buried on the depth chart. He could latch on with another organization if released, but he has a long way to go to climb back into the fantasy picture.

Rams | RB competition being pushed by OC

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 11:16:26 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy isn't officially the team's starting running back. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer reiterated that RBs Benny Cunningham, Tre Mason and Isaiah Pead will all compete with Stacy for starter status. Schottenheimer added that each running back has a different skill set that will be used "throughout the course of the year."

Fantasy Tip: It's still too early to make too much out of the St. Louis running back situation, but it's still not good news for Stacy. While Stacy may still get most of the playing time, he probably won't be called on as much as he was last season. Still, he's a solid RB2 option in standard leagues. If we were to choose a St. Louis running back to bet on other than Stacy, it would probably be Mason.

Rams | Zac Stacy questionable

Fri, 01 Nov 2013 12:07:56 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 1, and is listed as questionable for Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will have to wait until the inactive list to see if he will be on the field for the game. Stacy should be considered a low-end starting running back or flex option if he is able to play. With Daryl Richardson and Benny Cunningham also being questionable, Isaiah Pead could have a bigger role in the offense but should not be in starting lineups this week.

Rams | Zac Stacy fine

Fri, 11 Oct 2013 16:21:18 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy (ribs) looked good in practice Friday, Oct. 11, and is expected to be able to play in Week 6 against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Stacy is the "lead" back for the Rams for the second straight week, but Jeff Fisher will likely keep Daryl Richardson and maybe Isaiah Pead involved somehow. St. Louis' offense hasn't been consistent enough to get excited about Stacy. He's a flex play in deeper leagues.

Rams | Zac Stacy to receive his turn?

Thu, 03 Oct 2013 09:33:06 -0700

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said the team will probably go with a committee approach at running back in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and RB Zac Stacy could receive his chance after RBs Daryl Richardson, Isaiah Pead and Benny Cunningham haven't been very productive. "I think Zac's done a really good job since he's been here," QB Sam Bradford said. "He's a very talented runner. He's a powerful guy. He's got great vision. He makes cuts in the hole that are quick and decisive, so I'm excited to see him out there." Stacy has only one carry for four yards on the season against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. He was inactive in Weeks 2 and 3. The rest of the team's running backs haven't been good in pass protection through four weeks, and although he hasn't proven himself in the NFL yet, Stacy had a reputation as a good pass blocker coming out of college.

Fantasy Tip: Many expect Cunningham to be the next man up in the Rams backfield, but it could easily be Stacy, as well. He's the cheaper option off the waiver wire this week. It wouldn't hurt to stash him and see how this plays out this weekend.

Rams | Starting RB a mystery

Wed, 02 Oct 2013 16:04:51 -0700

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher wouldn't say who would be the starting running back this weekend against the Jacksonville Jaguars after RB Daryl Richardson hinted that he wouldn't be starting in Week 5. The Rams are currently last in the league in rushing, averaging just over 47 yards per game. Richardson is averaging a measly 2.7 yards per carry. "We have just had one day of practice and all the backs got to participate in practice, so we've got different things for different style of runners," Fisher said.

Fantasy Tip: Unfortunately for fantasy purposes, we may not know much about the running back rotation against the Jacksonville Jaguars until the game is actually played. This makes Richardson, Isaiah Pead, Zac Stacy and Benny Cunningham all very tough to start. It may be best to stay away from the situation until we get a better feel for it.

Rams | Isaiah Pead to sit out Week 4

Thu, 26 Sep 2013 16:21:01 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Isaiah Pead has been declared inactive for Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: This is a bit of a surprise, as Pead was involved heavily when Daryl Richardson aggravated his foot injury after just two snaps last week. It looks like St. Louis prefers the power running style of Zac Stacy against the San Francisco 49ers. Pead's value takes a hit with this situation unfolding.

Rams | Daryl Richardson expects to play

Tue, 24 Sep 2013 14:10:04 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Daryl Richardson (foot) practiced on a limited basis Monday, Sept. 23, and he expects to play in Week 4 versus the San Francisco 49ers Thursday, Sept. 26. He leads the team with 30 carries and 98 yards in three weeks despite playing just two snaps in Week 3 before aggravating his injury.

Fantasy Tip: San Fran has been surprisingly vulnerable against the run this year, so Richardson, assuming he plays a full game, is a sneaky good play this week. To keep him fresh, Isaiah Pead may see more work than usual, however.

Rams | Isaiah Pead, Benny Cunningham fail to capitalize

Sun, 22 Sep 2013 21:53:25 -0700

St. Louis Rams RBs Isaiah Pead and Benny Cunningham split the carries in the Week 3 game against the Dallas Cowboys with RB Daryl Richardson (foot) leaving the game after just one play. However, neither Pead nor Cunningham did much. Pead carried six times for 20 yards, while adding seven receptions and 43 yards. Cunningham had four carries for 16 yards, while adding one catch for six yards.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if Richardson will be ready to go in Week 4. If not, Pead, Cunningham and perhaps rookie Zac Stacy could be in line for more work.

Rams | Isaiah Pead losing ground

Tue, 20 Aug 2013 15:51:21 -0700

St. Louis Rams RBs Benny Cunningham and Zac Stacy have been impressive during the preseason, and head coach Jeff Fisher refused to indicate who would be the immediate backup behind RB Daryl Richardson. Both Cunningham and Stacy are more physical than RB Isaiah Pead, and Cunningham is effective as a punt protector and potential kick returner. Cunningham and Stacy have also shown they can catch the ball out of the backfield. Pead has already fumbled once in the preseason and will miss Week 1 for a drug suspension. Not helping his cause is the fact that he didn't gain much yardage in two games and also was indecisive as a kick returner. However, he's improved in pass protection, and the Rams are unlikely to move on from him after one season.

Fantasy Tip: Pead isn't very physical and there's a question whether he'll be able to hold up in the NFL. He's not off to a great start this year, and he shouldn't be a priority to draft as a handcuff to Richardson. That designation may ultimately fall to the rookie Stacy.
