Vikings | Specifics on deal for Kirk Cousins

Fri, 16 Mar 2018 14:03:19 -0700

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins has $6 million in incentives, $2 million per year, tied to his three-year, $84 million deal. Those incentives are triggered by play time, team points scored and Super Bowl wins. To hit the highest level in any year, Cousins has to be Super Bowl MVP.

Fantasy Tip: You like that? Cousins heads to the Twin Cities with lofty expectations, and with the additions on the defensive side of the ball the Vikings will be a favorite in the NFC. He'll be a decent low-end QB1 fantasy option heading into 2018.

Updating an earlier report, Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins is likely to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, according to sources.

Cardinals | Arizona still in play for Kirk Cousins

Mon, 12 Mar 2018 14:17:18 -0700

Free-agent QB Kirk Cousins (Redskins) remains a free-agent option for the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins' sister lives in Phoenix which will certainly be a big pro in him contemplating going to Arizona. Family ties aside, David Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald are two of the best at their respective positions. Cousins' fantasy value would remain in QB1 territory if a union were to be made.

Cardinals | David Johnson recruiting Kirk Cousins

Sat, 10 Mar 2018 19:31:45 -0800

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson sent out a tweet Friday, March 9, asking Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins to join him in Arizona.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson's versatility should keep him in the RB1 mix no matter who is under center for the Cardinals in 2018, but luring a reliable quarterback like Cousins would certainly sure up his stock.

Vikings | Vikings on verge of landing Kirk Cousins?

Wed, 07 Mar 2018 20:54:46 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins could be on the verge of going to the Minnesota Vikings, as the "belief" around the league is that it is a "done deal" between the two sides, according to Tony Pauline of DraftAnalyst.com.

Fantasy Tip: It's already been reported that there's mutual interest, and of all the teams going after Cousins, the Vikings probably represent the best situation for the 29-year-old quarterback, so this would make a lot of sense to play out. In Minnesota, Cousins would maintain his QB1 status in all fantasy formats and the argument could be made that the best numbers of his career are still to come.

Vikings | Kirk Cousins, Vikings have mutual interest

Tue, 06 Mar 2018 15:38:57 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings have a mutual interest in each other, but no offers and no decisions have been made yet and financial details will be a big factor, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Fantasy Tip: The Vikings are in a good, not great, place regarding their salary cap, currently sitting just under $50 million. Cousins' services will demand the big bucks, but a deal can still be struck, especially if winning is of the utmost importance to Cousins. As has been stated, Cousins is a QB1 candidate no matter where he plays, but the Vikings, on paper, are the best fit for him.

Vikings | Big offer for Kirk Cousins?

Tue, 06 Mar 2018 12:40:14 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins has reportedly been offered a three-year, $91 million fully guaranteed deal from the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: Tampering be damned. Whether or not the offer is legitimate remains to be seen. There is a possibility that information has been and will be leaked for Cousins' benefit. Either way, Cousins has a hefty contract forthcoming, but his fantasy value can be maximized in Minnesota.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins keeping an open mind

Mon, 05 Mar 2018 17:44:19 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins has not eliminated any teams who want to jump into the bidding for his services in free agency, according to 98.7 FM's Mike Jurecki.

Fantasy Tip: This would seem like a no-brainer, as it would be silly for Cousins to cut any team out that he could potentially use for leverage in negotiations. The Minnesota Vikings seems like they should be the favorite and probably are, but Cousins has already said he will take multiple visits before he even thinks about signing with a team.

Broncos | Denver still in play for Kirk Cousins

Mon, 05 Mar 2018 12:30:01 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins remains a strong blip on the Denver Broncos' radar despite reports to the contrary, according to 9news.com's Mike Klis. Klis added that no prospective team has had any visits or talked financials with Cousins yet.

Fantasy Tip: As Klis noted, it's too early in the process to speculate where Cousins will be going. Speculation is rampant at this time of year in the NFL, but free agency is still a week away. The Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals appear to be the main contenders for Cousins' services. The Vikings would give him the most fantasy value on paper.

Jets | NYJ worry about losing out on Kirk Cousins

Sun, 04 Mar 2018 15:57:52 -0800

The New York Jets plan to bid on free-agent QB Kirk Cousins (Redskins), but they are worried about losing out in the pursuit to the Minnesota Vikings. The team feels they can outbid the Vikings and offer a better contract structure, according to a team source, but the organization still feels Cousins might go to Minnesota for what he'll believe is a better chance to immediately win.

Fantasy Tip: Wherever Cousins lands, he'll have a ton of weight on his shoulders to produce. Joining a team like Minnesota, with exciting pass-catching playmakers like Stefon Diggs, Kyle Rudolph and Adam Thielen also might help. The Jets don't exactly have a lot of household names in the receiving game.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers deal on hold?

Sat, 03 Mar 2018 18:25:11 -0800

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers' contract extension is unlikely to be completed until after Washington Redskins impending free-agent Kirk Cousins signs his new deal, according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers has no reason to rush his extension, so waiting to see where Cousins sets the market makes sense. Rodgers isn't going anywhere, and his status as a top-tier QB1 is unlikely to change any time soon.

Redskins | Four teams to pursue Kirk Cousins

Sat, 03 Mar 2018 10:21:35 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins is expected to be pursued the Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals during free agency, and they likely will be the finalists for Cousins, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: All four teams are looking for a starting quarterback, so Cousins will receive a lucrative contract this offseason. He has recorded at least 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns in each of the last three seasons and can be considered a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterbacks in leagues next season.

Broncos | Broncos 'all-in' for Kirk Cousins

Thu, 01 Mar 2018 20:26:38 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins has become an "all-in" target for the Denver Broncos when free agency kicks off on Wednesday, March 14, according to two sources familiar with the club's free agency plans. Additionally, those sources mentioned that the Broncos have "examined scenarios" to potentially open up between $40 million and $50 million in cap space for this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos are competing with at least two other teams -- the Vikings and Jets -- while the lowly Browns are also hanging around in the hunt for the six-year veteran as well. It's reasonable to conclude that landing in Denver would be an upgrade for Cousins over his previous situation with the Redskins, as he'd have two proven stud wide-outs in Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, as well as a steadier run game. This is shaping up to be the top storyline of the offseason.

Redskins | Tag unlikely for Kirk Cousins

Wed, 28 Feb 2018 17:05:35 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent Kirk Cousins probably will not receive the franchise tag this offseason, according to senior vice president of player personnel Doug Williams.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins likely will be the biggest name available in free agency and should receive a lucrative contract from a team this offseason. He has played well over the last several seasons and can be a No. 1 fantasy quarterback in 2018.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins to take his time in free agency

Tue, 27 Feb 2018 09:13:03 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins is not expected to agree to terms during the two-day negotiating period prior to the official start of free agency on March 14 in order to take one or more visits, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has been adamant about the importance of finding a team willing to compete for a title, so since he is clearly the top player available at his position, he will be afforded plenty of time to make a decision before the rest of the dominos start falling. The Minnesota Vikings look like a potential front-runner at the moment. If he lands there, he should have no problem remaining a fantasy QB1.

Vikings | Vikings a 'player' for Kirk Cousins

Mon, 26 Feb 2018 21:29:54 -0800

The Minnesota Vikings are "going to be players" for Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

Fantasy Tip: Of all the teams gunning for Cousins' services, the Vikings probably present the best situation for the 29-year-old signal-caller, given that they have more talent on offense than the other pursuant clubs like the Jets, Broncos and Browns. On top of that, it's realistic to think that landing in Minnesota could put Cousins in position to post career-best numbers with that supporting cast.

Broncos | Denver will meet with Kirk Cousins' agent

Mon, 26 Feb 2018 12:48:58 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins's agent, Mike McCartney, will meet with the Denver Broncos during the NFL combine this week. McCartney also represents Broncos QB Trevor Siemian.

Fantasy Tip: NFL teams must tread carefully during combine festivities at the risk of being guilty of tampering. The Broncos are one of the favorites to sign Cousins in free agency. It just so happens that he and Siemian have the same agent. Nonetheless, Cousins should remain a No. 1 fantasy quarterback no matter what uniform he's wearing.

Cardinals | Kirk Cousins not in play for Arizona

Sun, 25 Feb 2018 19:54:33 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins was never "truly" an option for the Arizona Cardinals because of the expected price tag, according to Mike Jurecki of 98.7 Arizona, and Jurecki expects the Cardinals to add a veteran quarterback in free agency and select one in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: While a few teams have fallen out of the Cousins sweepstakes, it remains to be seen where he will end up. He should be a QB1 no matter where signs.

Sun, 25 Feb 2018 14:27:01 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins went 4-19 as the Redskins' starting quarterback against teams that finished their seasons with a winning record.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins will receive interest from multiple teams and should receive a lucrative contract if he hits the free-agent market. He has played well over the last few seasons and could be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback depending in his new team.

Jets | Kirk Cousins could see $60 million in first year

Tue, 20 Feb 2018 07:00:34 -0800

Updating previous reports, Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins could receive an offer from the New York Jets that would give him $60 million guaranteed in the first year of the contract, according to a league source.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins will be at worst a midrange QB1 option next season, but the Jets don't offer a lot of upside if he lands there.

Updating previous reports, Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins could receive an offer from the New York Jets with a fully guaranteed contract, according to sources.

Redskins | A Kirk Cousins tag and trade not realistic

Mon, 19 Feb 2018 13:30:25 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins could theoretically be franchise tagged by the Redskins, but if that were to occur then Cousins would not entertain a long-term deal with his new team and he would make a whopping $34 million under the tag. If Cousins did not immediately sign the tag, he could not be traded anyway. Furthermore, the Redskins would not be able to do much else in free agency and also just traded for Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith.

Fantasy Tip: Tagging Cousins makes no sense from Washington's perspective, especially considering the recent acquisition of Smith. Cousins will be playing in a new city in 2018 and the Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, New York Jets and Cleveland Browns are the most realistic suitors. Cousins will be a QB1 option wherever he plays, although Minnesota is his best-case scenario on paper.

Mon, 19 Feb 2018 07:34:43 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins will have heavy pursuit from the New York Jets, who are prepared to pay "whatever it takes" to land him, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins will be an upper-level QB1 wherever he lands, but the Jets might be one of the worst landing places for him in fantasy next season.

Broncos | DEN favored for Kirk Cousins?

Mon, 19 Feb 2018 07:19:31 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent Kirk Cousins is favored to sign with the Denver Broncos, in the opinion of SI.com's Peter King.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has been on the fringe of an elite fantasy quarterback the last couple of years without a lot around him. If he went to Denver to throw to established receivers, he could firmly entrench himself in the top-five at the position.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins to file grievance if tagged

Sun, 18 Feb 2018 11:23:00 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins will file a grievance if the Redskins decide to place the franchise tag on him, according to a source. Cousins can argue that the Redskins would be violating the collective bargaining agreement because the team would have no intention in having long-term contract talks with him or having him play on the franchise tag.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins likely will be playing with another team next season, but it is not known if he will hit the free-agent market or if the Redskins will look to trade him. Cousins has played well over the last few seasons and can be a No. 1 fantasy quarterback depending on his new team.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins the best available QB?

Sat, 10 Feb 2018 20:19:31 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins is the "safest bet at the position, in free agency or the draft," according to an NFL executive.

Fantasy Tip: Several teams are likely to make a run at Cousins this offseason. He has thrown at least 25 touchdowns and topped 4,000 yards in each of the last three seasons and should be able to provide QB1 numbers no matter where he ends up.

Browns | Cleveland won't pursue Kirk Cousins?

Sun, 04 Feb 2018 18:40:43 -0800

The Cleveland Browns are not likely to be serious contenders to sign Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Cabot believes the Browns are more likely to select a quarterback with the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and pursue a lower-tier quarterback in free agency.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Cleveland isn't in the running, Cousins will have no shortage of suitors this offseason. Expect him to be a QB1 candidate regardless of how free agency shakes out.

Vikings | Kirk Cousins wants to be in Minnesota?

Sun, 04 Feb 2018 18:11:24 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins has the Minnesota Vikings "number one with a bullet" on the list of teams he'd like to play for in 2018, according to Paul Allen of KFAN Minneapolis.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has said he wants to go to a team capable of winning right away, and the Vikings fit that mold. With all three of Minnesota's current quarterbacks heading to free agency, the Vikings could be in the market. Wherever Cousins lands, he should be able to provide low-end QB1 production.

Redskins | WAS could place franchise tag on Kirk Cousins

Sun, 04 Feb 2018 06:41:00 -0800

The Washington Redskins are considering placing the franchise tag on QB Kirk Cousins in order to trade him and recover some of the compensation they sent to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for QB Alex Smith, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: Without the tag being applied to Cousins, the Redskins would receive no compensation and he would be eligible to sign anywhere as a true unrestricted free agent when the new football year begins March 14. Regardless of where he winds up next season, Cousins should be viewed as a low-end QB1 in all fantasy formats.

Fri, 02 Feb 2018 11:38:33 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins said he was surprised when he heard about the Redskins' agreement to acquire Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith.

Fantasy Tip: Smith will be the Redskins starting quarterback for the next several seasons and probably should be considered a high-end No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues. Cousins should receive a lucrative contract from a team this offseason and can be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback depending on the team.

Thu, 01 Feb 2018 06:19:06 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins is unlikely to be pursued by the Buffalo Bills, in the opinion of beat writer Mark Gaughan.

Jets | Jets expected to go after Kirk Cousins

Wed, 31 Jan 2018 20:36:17 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins has drawn the attention of "quarterback-needy teams," with the New York Jets "expected" to be one of his suitors, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com.

Fantasy Tip: This is a no-brainer, as the Jets have been seeking a franchise quarterback for what seems like an eternity, and clearly, their young options in place at the moment have no chance of leading a winning football team. If Cousins were to come to NY, he'd have some quality weapons in Robby Anderson and Jermaine Kearse, which would certainly allow him to continue having a QB1 ceiling.

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins would be welcomed by Denver Broncos LB Von Miller. "Kirk could take us over the edge," Miller said, "but that's the National Football League. There are a lot of teams that need Kirk."

Fantasy Tip: Miller is right, and some of those teams have a lot more salary cap space than the Broncos, although Cousins has said he wants to be on a winning team. Even if Cousins joins the Cleveland Browns or New York Jets, he will remain a QB1 candidate.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins wants winning team

Tue, 30 Jan 2018 12:03:22 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins won't be solely focused on how much money he can make this offseason. He wants to be on a team that will contend for the Super Bowl. "Is money a part of it? Sure. Is it the only thing? No," Cousins said. "It is about winning, and that's what I want more than anything, so I'm going to be willing to make sacrifices or do what has to be done to make sure I'm in the best possible position to win, and that's what the focus is going to be."

Fantasy Tip: Cousins will be the most coveted quarterback on the free-agent market and is headed for a big payday. He performed well in 2017 even without a reliable supporting cast. Cousins has been a solid QB1 the last three seasons and should remain a QB1 candidate no matter where he plays.

Sun, 28 Jan 2018 19:36:28 -0800

Cleveland Browns OT Joe Thomas said he wants the front office to use cap space to sign Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins.

Fantasy Tip: Cleveland might not be the best landing spot for Cousins' fantasy value, but he'd have to throw early and often to try to keep the Browns in games. No matter where he plays in 2018, Cousins should at least be a low-end QB1.

Redskins | Jay Gruden wants long-term answer at QB

Mon, 08 Jan 2018 10:35:08 -0800

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said he prefers that impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins signs a long-term deal or the team moves onto another quarterback. "I think something has to be done," Gruden said. "I personally don't want to go through another one-year deal, and just [keep going] one year, one year. I think you want to have a quarterback in here that's going to be here. And hopefully that is Kirk, and if not, we have to move on and do what we have to do as an organization."

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has received the franchise tag for each of the last two seasons and could receive it again if the two sides are not able to agree on a new deal. Cousins can be a No. 1 fantasy quarterback if he returns to the Redskins next season.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has received the franchise tag in each of the last two offseasons, so it will be expensive if the Redskins decide to use it for a third time. He would receive interest from multiple teams if he hits the free-agent market and should receive a lucrative offer this offseason. Cousins likely will be a starting quarterback next season and could be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback depending on his team.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins will be one of the biggest names in free agency next offseason after receiving Washington's franchise tag for two straight years. Sun, 17 Dec 2017 14:19:02 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 18 of his 26 pass attempts for 196 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 15 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has thrown for 196 or fewer yards in each of the past two games, but he is working on a streak of six games with at least one TD pass. In Week 16 he'll face a Broncos pass defense which ranked No. 2 in yardage, but No. 32 in passing scores allowed.

Redskins | Ugly outing for Kirk Cousins

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 20:23:57 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 15 of his 27 passes for 151 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a 30-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: Washington's passing attack was derailed by the pass rush of the Chargers, and Cousins finished with his lowest yardage total of the season. He should be back in the QB1 mix against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 15.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins uneven in loss

Thu, 30 Nov 2017 21:33:36 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins was 26-for-37 for 251 yards passing, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the team's 24-point loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, Nov. 30. Cousins was also sacked four times and fumbled twice, losing one.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to fault Cousins for much Thursday night. He had no running game, protection issues and both of his picks came off deflections -- one at the line and one off the hands of Jamison Crowder. How much things will improve between now and Week 14, when they face a dangerous Los Angeles Chargers pass rush on the road, is debatable, making the early prospects for Cousins less than ideal.
