Redskins | Kirk Cousins shreds Oakland

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 21:08:57 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 25 of his 30 passes for 365 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-10 win over the Oakland Raiders in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: After a sloppy start to the year, Cousins had a breakout performance against Oakland. His QB1 upside is undeniable, but Cousins could be a boom-or-bust option on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins quiet in Week 2 win

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 21:26:38 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 18 of his 27 pass attempts for 179 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 2 on the road against the Rams.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins is being paid like an elite quarterback, but so far he has passed for just 419 yards and two touchdowns with one interception through two games. Not good. He might recover in Week 3 in a potential shootout against Oakland on Sunday Night Football.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins mediocre in Week 1

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 14:01:55 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins was 23-for-40 for 240 yards with one touchdown and an interception in a 30-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Philadelphia was 13th in the league in pass defense last year with 239.5 yards given up per game. The number of dropped balls and missed opportunities could be a concern, but this is also a big rivalry. The fact Cousins couldn't close the deal at home could be something to watch, but Cousins had a subpar preseason and this could be a hangover. Keep him as a QB1 for now.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins falls flat

Sun, 27 Aug 2017 17:08:49 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 10 of his 19 passes for 109 yards and an interception in a 23-17 preseason win over the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday, Aug. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins hasn't made many big plays this preseason, and Washington's revamped receiving corps could be contributing to the slow start. While the faces have changed a bit, he still has plenty of weapons at his disposal, so expect him to iron things out sooner rather than later and put together another season of QB1 production.

Redskins | Quiet debut for Josh Doctson

Sat, 19 Aug 2017 21:11:24 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (hamstring) made his preseason debut Saturday, Aug. 19, and finished with one catch for 12 yards in a 21-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers, and John Keim of ESPN.com believes Doctson and QB Kirk Cousins need more time to work together to develop trust.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries have stunted Doctson's growth, but a steady role in a solid passing attack makes him worth grabbing as an upside WR5.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins off the mark

Sat, 19 Aug 2017 21:02:04 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 14 of his 23 pass attempts for 144 yards and a touchdown in a 21-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the preseason Saturday. Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: It wasn't the most efficient stat line for Cousins, but on the plus side, he was putting the ball in the air early and often. He has solid weapons around him and should be in line for another season of QB1 production.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins wants to stay in Washington

Tue, 15 Aug 2017 11:41:37 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins does not want to sign with another team when he becomes a free agent next offseason. Cousins loves playing for the Redskins and hopes to remain there for the entirety of his career.

Fantasy Tip: The desire is there, but Cousins and the Redskins have had difficult contract negotiations in the past. Nonetheless, Cousins is a No. 1 fantasy quarterback in 2017, even with the losses of Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson.

Redskins | Josh Doctson key for Kirk Cousins?

Thu, 20 Jul 2017 20:26:23 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson's progression this season could help determine if QB Kirk Cousins decides to sign a long-term extension, according to JP Finlay of CSNMidAtlantic.com.

Fantasy Tip: Doctson should be the fourth option in a pass-happy attack, and he can be considered an upside WR5 coming off an injury-plagued rookie year.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins wants to stay in Washington

Tue, 18 Jul 2017 16:54:56 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins' first choice is to stay with the Redskins despite both sides not agreeing on a long-term deal. Cousins said he would love to stay in Washington long term and has hope for getting a deal done next offseason.

Fantasy Tip: The bottom line is that Cousins will still play for the Redskins in 2017. He's set to make a lot of money next year, though, whether that's from the Redskins or someone else. As for fantasy, Cousins has QB1 appeal after averaging 4,541.5 yards and 27 touchdowns the last two seasons, not to mention he's scored nine times on the ground in that span.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins was offered big money

Mon, 17 Jul 2017 13:47:28 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins was offered $53 million guaranteed as part of the Redskins' offer in early May, according to team president Bruce Allen.

Fantasy Tip: We don't know who Cousins will be playing for next season, but we do know that team will need to break the bank in order to sign him. He has quickly turned into one of the most prolific quarterbacks in the NFL over the last two years. View him as a low-end QB1 heading into 2017.

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins was not given a new deal prior to the deadline Monday, July 17. He will play under the franchise tag for a second straight year.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins will be the beneficiary of a significant payday next offseason. As for this season, he remains a QB1 candidate despite losing both DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins' best offer came in May

Mon, 17 Jul 2017 06:04:57 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins' best contract offer was received in May, which was higher than $20 million per year. The contract only added one guaranteed year, but it was worth less than the $23.9 million he's slated to make via the franchise tag.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has averaged 4,542 yards, 27 touchdowns and 11.5 interceptions the last two seasons. He has completed nearly 70 percent of his passes in that span and sits just below the elite tier as a QB1 in fantasy.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins open to deal after season

Sun, 16 Jul 2017 12:40:27 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is not expected to sign a long-term deal before the 4 p.m. ET deadline Monday, July 17. However, Cousins is reportedly open to doing a deal with the team after this season as there has been "a positive, constructive tone" to recent contract talks, per a source.

Fantasy Tip: It appears one of the NFL's longest ongoing sagas will continue for another few months. Cousins reportedly wants to bet on himself yet again in hopes he can maximize his earnings and potentially reset the market at quarterback as a free agent in 2018. In fantasy, he has settled in as a midrange QB1.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins deal still unlikely

Thu, 13 Jul 2017 05:33:04 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is likely to play for the franchise tag in 2017, and both sides are complacent with it, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has had two-and-a-half brilliant seasons in a row and nearly threw for 5,000 yards last season. He rates just below the elite tier in fantasy, but he's not a bad consolation prize.

Redskins | Washington, Kirk Cousins still not close

Wed, 12 Jul 2017 14:31:48 -0700

The Washington Redskins still have not made much progress in contract talks with QB Kirk Cousins and the two sides are not close to a deal. The Redskins have until Monday, July 17, to sign Cousins to a long-term deal.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has posted terrific numbers over the last two seasons and is looking for a lucrative contract but has not reached an agreement yet. Cousins will continue to be with the Redskins for at least one more season and can still be considered a No. 1 fantasy quarterback even though he lost his top two receivers in free agency.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins deal still a long shot

Mon, 10 Jul 2017 09:05:10 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins signing a long-term deal before the July 17 deadline remains a long shot.

Fantasy Tip: Our apologies for being Captain Obvious on a soap opera that has been stagnant for a couple of years. Cousins' play has also made him an obvious QB1 in fantasy after the top tier is gone.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins deal still a long shot

Tue, 27 Jun 2017 07:52:58 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins reaching a long-term deal is still a long shot, according to sources. There are promising signs of late, though.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins is knocking on the door of the elite tier in fantasy, but there are safer players to deliver on that. Treat Cousins as an option if you miss out on the top three or four at the position.

Redskins | Odds strong Kirk Cousins re-signs?

Tue, 20 Jun 2017 09:10:35 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins has "become a leader and a fixture at a position of perpetual angst for (team owner Dan) Snyder," according to CBS sports Jason La Confora, who believes there is now an 80 percent chance Cousins signs a long-term deal with the Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: La Confora also suggests letting Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson walk in free agency was a precursor to a long-term deal for Cousins. There has been a lot of positive momentum to reach a long-term deal this summer, and the sides have just under a month to negotiate a contract before Cousins is forced to play under the franchise tag. He figures to be a low-end QB1 in 2017.

Redskins | WAS wants long-term deal for Kirk Cousins

Fri, 16 Jun 2017 14:09:31 -0700

Washington Redskins vice president of player personnel Doug Williams said the team wants to sign QB Kirk Cousins to a long-term extension in the worst way. Williams said the two sides have been negotiating this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: The Redskins will have about a month to sign Cousins to a long-term deal, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. He has thrown for at least 4,100 yards in each of the last two seasons and has posted 54 touchdowns during that time. Cousins did lose his top two receivers in free agency but still has a solid group of pass catchers to work with this season. Cousins can be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in some leagues.

Redskins | Big season coming for Terrelle Pryor?

Thu, 08 Jun 2017 19:43:01 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Terrelle Pryor has a chance to reach 1,500 receiving yards as the go-to target for QB Kirk Cousins, according to NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt.

Fantasy Tip: Pryor certainly has the athleticism to be a dominant receiver, and he should have plenty of chances to make plays with Cousins likely to throw early and often. Consider him a high-upside WR2.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins talks pick up

Wed, 07 Jun 2017 05:39:21 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins has had encouraging contract talks recently, which owner Daniel Snyder has gotten involved in, and he expressed an interest in re-signing Cousins. There is belief that even if a deal isn't completed by the July 15 franchise tag deadline, one could be completed after the season.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins had the fifth-most fantasy points the last five weeks of the season as well as the entire season. He has been consistently brilliant, and he's knocking on the door of the top couple of tiers at the position in fantasy.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins among NFL's best

Sun, 04 Jun 2017 19:50:40 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins' 104.7 passer rating since Week 7 of the 2015 season is the best mark in the NFL among players with at least 500 pass attempts.

Fantasy Tip: While the Redskins have been hesitant to commit to Cousins long term, fantasy owners shouldn't be afraid to grab him as a midrange QB1.

Redskins | Terrelle Pryor focused on chemistry

Sat, 27 May 2017 18:55:50 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Terrelle Pryor said he is spending as much time as possible with QB Kirk Cousins in order to build trust, and head coach Jay Gruden said the relationship between Pryor and Cousins off the field in translating to success on the field.

Fantasy Tip: Pryor managed to top 1,000 yards for the Browns last year, and he should be one of the main weapons in Washington's passing attack. He offers a lot of potential as a WR3.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins upbeat about extension talks

Sat, 27 May 2017 15:38:40 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins recently characterized his talks about a contract extension as "really positive" and appears content with whatever happens leading up to the July 15 league deadline for franchise-tagged players to hammer out a long-term deal, according to the Washington Post's Liz Clarke.

Fantasy Tip: It's easy for Cousins to be comfortable knowing he's probably going to receive at least $25 million per year beginning in 2018 no matter what the Redskins decide. Although he lost some important weapons and DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garçon via free agency, the addition of Terrelle Pryor and continued growth of Jamison Crowder should offset that a bit. Cousins should be a solid midrange QB1 in fantasy this season.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins working on timing

Fri, 26 May 2017 21:11:44 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is still adjusting to throwing jumps ball and back-shoulder fades to WR Terrelle Pryor, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Fantasy Tip: Pryor has elite size and athleticism, and he made a surprisingly quick transition to receiver last year. He could be Cousins' go-to target this season, and Pryor should be drafted as a high-upside WR3.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins could be tagged again

Tue, 23 May 2017 07:32:51 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins could receive a third consecutive franchise tag next offseason, according to team president Bruce Allen. The cost of a third straight franchise tag would be $34 million in 2018.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has had two brilliant seasons in a row, and there's very little risk with him as your midrange QB1 if you miss out on the studs.

Browns | Cleveland looking to acquire Kirk Cousins

Thu, 27 Apr 2017 17:56:11 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is a player the Cleveland Browns are trying to acquire.

Fantasy Tip: The Browns have been looking to find a long-term quarterback for a while and are working on acquiring Cousins. Cousins has played well over the last two seasons but received the franchise tag for the second straight offseason. He would be the starting quarterback if the Browns add him, but he would not have a lot of weapons to work with in the passing game. Owners in fantasy leagues can consider Cousins a fringe No. 1 quarterback or a solid No. 2 quarterback.

Redskins | Terrelle Pryor works out with Kirk Cousins

Sat, 15 Apr 2017 12:34:52 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Terrelle Pryor recently worked out with QB Kirk Cousins in order to work on their timing on the field. Pryor said Cousins also helped him learn the playbook during a meeting they had before working out.

Fantasy Tip: Pryor will be a starter for the Redskins next season and could be the No. 1 receiver depending on who is on the roster. He posted 1,007 yards and four touchdowns in 2016 and could see more targets with Cousins as his quarterback. He can be considered a No. 3 receiver in most fantasy leagues.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins says ball is in team's court

Tue, 11 Apr 2017 19:48:45 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins said "the ball's in the team's court" regarding negotiations for a long-term contract, and that he was assured by owner Dan Snyder and president Bruce Allen he won't be traded prior to the upcoming season. "The team would need to make that decision and say that this is a guy we're going to commit to in the long haul," Cousins stated. "I'm very comfortable playing under the franchise tag."

Fantasy Tip: None of this should really be a surprise to anyone. It's already been reported how Washington has immediately shot down any potential trade suitors for the 28-year-old quarterback, while he continues to maintain that he would like to get a long-term deal done with the franchise. Either way, Cousins has the ability to offer sneaky QB1 potential for 2017 later on in drafts.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins hasn't received new offer

Thu, 30 Mar 2017 16:19:47 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins still hasn't received a new offer from the team since February, one that involved getting "roughly" $20 million per year with a low guarantee.

Fantasy Tip: No matter what, Cousins is going to be playing under center once again in Washington in 2017, considering how the club has immediately shot down any trade suitors, but his future with the Redskins beyond next season looks murky. Regardless, he'll enter the new campaign with QB1 potential in fantasy.

Redskins | Redskins shoot down Kirk Cousins suitors

Tue, 14 Mar 2017 20:12:44 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is still garnering interest, as three other teams have tried to trade for him "in the last 10 days or so," only to be "quickly shot down," according to a league source.

Fantasy Tip: While Cousins' situation in Washington will be tricky beyond 2017, it appears the club is firmly set with him as their starting quarterback going into next season, and who can blame them? The 28-year-old has topped 4,100 passing yards in each of the past two seasons, while compiling 54 touchdowns compared to only 23 interceptions over that span. He'll have QB1 potential in most formats.

Redskins | Terrelle Pryor to work with Kirk Cousins

Tue, 14 Mar 2017 10:07:09 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Terrelle Pryor has made plans to practice with Redskins QB Kirk Cousins and wide receivers in late April, Pryor said during his introductory press conference Monday, March 13.

Fantasy Tip: Pryor has a wealth of upside in this offense and intends to get to work early. This is nothing but good news for fantasy gamers, who should look to him as a WR2.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins won't sign long-term deal

Fri, 10 Mar 2017 10:37:32 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will reportedly not agree to a long-term deal with the team as long as team president Bruce Allen remains in power.

Fantasy Tip: This is a direct response to the haphazard way the Redskins handled the departure of former general manager Scott McCloughan and an unsurprising stand despite the fact the ink is still probably still drying after Cousins signed his one-year franchise tender earlier Friday. With DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon gone and so much chaos surrounding the franchise, Cousins is going to be hard to trust in fantasy in 2017.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins signs tender

Fri, 10 Mar 2017 08:26:40 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins signed his franchise tender Friday, March 10. He can now be traded, but the team has shown no indication of doing so.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins is in a sticky situation where he has asked for a trade, and the team lost its top two receivers. He has earned midrange QB1 status the last two years, but with these other factors coming into play, one has to wonder if there is more risk than upside for more.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins will sign tender

Thu, 09 Mar 2017 17:12:14 -0800

Updating an ongoing story, Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will sign his franchise tag tender soon, and he will be a "good soldier," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins most likely will remain with the Redskins in 2017. The offense lost DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, so a step backward statistically seems inevitable for Cousins. He's a high-end QB2 for most gaming circles.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins asked for trade

Thu, 09 Mar 2017 08:44:27 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins asked owner Dan Snyder for a trade, but he was essentially told not to get his hopes up, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has had two banner seasons in a row, but with the turmoil and uncertainty, you're probably buying him a little high as a midrange QB1 with some bust potential. He's also likely to lose two of his receivers. It's a juicy story, but there are safer options this year.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins, Redskins discussing deal

Thu, 02 Mar 2017 12:16:43 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins and the Redskins are discussing a long-term deal worth $20 million per year, according to a source. Cousins' franchise tag is worth around $24 million this year.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins will be paid big money either way, but the Redskins want to lock up who they believe to be their quarterback of the future for a long time. Cousins has cemented himself as a QB1 and should be drafted as such even if DeSean Jackson does not return to the District of Columbia.

Redskins | Trade for Kirk Cousins still possible

Tue, 28 Feb 2017 11:35:48 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins "remains in play" to be traded despite receiving the exclusive franchise tag on Tuesday, Feb. 28, according to the Washington Post's Mark Maske.

Fantasy Tip: ESPN's John Keim reported earlier Tuesday the San Francisco 49ers are the only team Cousins is willing to sign a long-term contract with "right now" - a move that would reunite him with his former offensive coordinator (and new 49ers head coach) Kyle Shanahan. Maske does nothing to dispute that possibility. San Francisco has ten draft picks at the moment, including No. 2 overall, so it has the ammunition to pull the trigger. A move to the bay area would send Cousins into fantasy QB2 territory in 2017.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins gets exclusive franchise tag

Tue, 28 Feb 2017 10:43:39 -0800

Impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins (Redskins) received the exclusive franchise tag on Tuesday, Feb. 28, prohibiting him to negotiate with other teams.

Fantasy Tip: The only real question for weeks was whether or not Washington would choose the exclusive or non-exclusive tag, so this answers that question. The exclusive tag guarantees Cousins a 20-percent raise on his 2016 salary of $19.953 million, but the fact the Redskins don't appear anywhere close to signing him long-term throws gas on the fire to the rumors he could leave for the San Francisco 49ers after the season. For 2017, however, Cousins projects to be a low-end QB1 in fantasy.

49ers | Kirk Cousins likes 49ers

Tue, 28 Feb 2017 06:28:48 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins would sign with the San Francisco 49ers to reunite with head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins is likely to receive the franchise tag again from the Redskins, and this topic could be on hold for another year. Cousins has had two banner seasons in a row, and he's in the midrange QB1 area in fantasy.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins should be tagged

Mon, 27 Feb 2017 11:04:02 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is expected to receive the franchise tag before the franchise tag deadline Wednesday, March 1.

Fantasy Tip: This won't be a big surprise if/when it happens. It makes sense for Washington to tag Cousins again so they have more time to discuss a long-term contract. Cousins has solidified his place in QB1 territory after the last two years. Expect another season of 4,000 or more yards and at least a couple dozen touchdowns.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins red-hot during middle of 2016

Wed, 22 Feb 2017 20:30:18 -0800

Impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins was mostly average as a passer in September (79-of-124 for 989 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions) and December (85-of-134, 1,090 yards, four TDs and three interceptions) but excelled in October and November (combined 220-of-313 for 2,551 yards, 17 TDs and four interceptions).

Fantasy Tip: Included in that midseason explosion was a 375-yard, three-score performance against a shorthanded Green Bay Packers secondary and garbage-time inspired 449-yard, three-TD effort on Thanksgiving Day against the Dallas Cowboys. Cousins is likely to receive the franchise tag soon, but it fair to wonder if he deserves it. He is certain to be drafted as a QB1 in the likely event he remains with Washington this season, but he could disappoint with DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garçon likely departing via free agency.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins tag would bloat cap space

Tue, 21 Feb 2017 06:41:53 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins, who could potentially receive the franchise tag at $23.9 million, would account for 35 percent of the team's salary cap with CB Josh Norman ($20 million) and OT Trent Williams ($15.1 million).

Fantasy Tip: Cousins' numbers were on par, in some places better, than his breakout 2015 campaign. He has proven to be a solid fantasy option in the low-end QB1 range.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins won't sign long-term deal?

Mon, 20 Feb 2017 21:36:53 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will not sign a long-term deal prior to the March 1 deadline when the club can apply the franchise tag, according to "a source with knowledge of the situation."

Fantasy Tip: Well, even if that is the case, the Redskins can still lock up Cousins over the long haul by turning a potential franchise tag into a long-term contract, and the deadline for that would be July 15. Either way, it looks like Cousins will be entering his sixth straight campaign in a Washington uniform, and after another fabulous showing in 2016, he'll have low-end QB1 potential.

Redskins | Jordan Reed endorses Kirk Cousins

Sat, 18 Feb 2017 19:16:47 -0800

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed said bringing back impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins should be a top priority this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Reed is one of the best fantasy tight ends in the game when he isn't dealing with injuries. If Cousins is back under center in Washington in 2017, Reed should remain a TE1 in all formats.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins wants tag?

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins would prefer to receive the franchise tag again in 2017 because he doesn't want to remain with the team long term, according to former Redskins officials.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins will likely be back in Washington in 2017 one way or the other, and he has shown over the last two years he is capable of providing big numbers. He will be a borderline QB1 next season.

Redskins | No progress with Kirk Cousins

Tue, 14 Feb 2017 15:56:10 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins and the Redskins have not yet come close to an agreement on a long-term contract, according to sources. Thus, placing the franchise tag on Cousins for a second consecutive year is a real possibility. If Cousins is tagged, he would earn $23.94 million compared to the $19.95 million he earned last season. The goal of both sides, however, is to hammer out a long-term deal.

Fantasy Tip: There's no question Cousins deserves a long-term contract. He has two straight 4,000-yard seasons, including 4,917 yards in 2016 -- a franchise record. In addition, he has led the Redskins to two straight winning seasons while becoming a fixture in QB1 territory of fantasy football leagues. His running ability only adds to the lure. Assuming he does return to Washington, he's a low-end QB1 consideration.

Redskins | 'High likelihood' Kirk Cousins is tagged?

Thu, 09 Feb 2017 16:02:22 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins and the team have shown "no indications that the sides are venturing closer in negotiations" and as a result, Mike Jones of the Washington Post believes there is a "high likelihood" that Cousins receives the franchise tag for the second straight year. That means he'd receive a raise in salary from $20 million to $24 million for the upcoming campaign, but the Redskins would lose all future leverage in trying to lock him up after that.

Fantasy Tip: Team president Bruce Allen and head coach Jay Gruden have been vocal about keeping Cousins, but it seems the two sides just can't agree on a long-term deal. They have about three weeks before deciding whether or not to use the franchise tag, and if that is indeed the case, it is seen as unlikely that Cousins would be back after next season. Either way, the 28-year-old is coming off his second straight stellar campaign and should be viewed as a low-end QB1 going into drafts in 2017.

49ers | Kirk Cousins remains No. 1 choice

Sun, 05 Feb 2017 23:20:04 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins remains the top choice of the San Francisco 49ers, should Cousins file for free agency.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins can be tagged franchise for another year, so we have to be careful to say a move to the 49ers is not etched in stone. Still, the Redskins are evaluating their needs and may decide keeping Cousins isn't worth the cost. A Cousins move would instantly upgrade the 49ers, but this is all still quite fluid.
