Redskins | Kirk Cousins negotiating

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 09:07:47 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins is engaged in discussions to re-sign with the Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins had a breakout season, and he's a low-end QB1 in fantasy that could have some upside.

Redskins | Long-term deal for Kirk Cousins?

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 16:03:06 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins is expected to be re-signed this offseason, and general manager Scot McCloughan prefers signing him to a long-term deal instead of giving their quarterback the franchise tag. A long-term deal would be in the $17-20 million range, according to McCloughan, while Washington would have to pay Cousins about $20 million if they were to tag him.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins was one of the bigger pleasant surprises in football last season, going from unheralded backup to unquestioned starter while leading the Redskins to a NFC East division title and subsequent playoff berth. Those who started Cousins on their fantasy squads in 2015 will have a good taste in their mouths as 2016 approaches, but we still don't know if last season was an anomaly or a sign of things to come.

Redskins | Washington to re-sign Kirk Cousins

Mon, 11 Jan 2016 14:00:54 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will be re-signed this offseason, and head coach Jay Gruden said the organization plans to continue to build around their quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins finally proved he was deserving of his starting status this year, despite the Redskins losing in the first round of the playoffs. Cousins threw 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and ran for five touchdowns during the regular season. He should be viewed as a low-end QB1 to high-end QB2 for next season.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins throws for 329 yards

Sun, 10 Jan 2016 18:37:27 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 29 of his 46 pass attempts for 329 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the NFC Wild Card Game Sunday, Jan. 10, against the Green Bay Packers. He ran for a touchdown, but also fumbled three times and lost one. He is only the second Redskins QB in franchise history to score a rushing touchdown in the playoffs.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins had a pretty nice season overall, throwing for 4,166 yards and 29 touchdowns. He is the starter heading into 2016, barring an injury in the offseason or training camp, and he is a Top 15-20 fantasy option at his position.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins on high note

Sat, 09 Jan 2016 10:11:47 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins finished the regular season with three straight games with at least three passing touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Unfortunately for Cousins, the Green Bay Packers were a top-five fantasy defense against quarterbacks this season. Cousins definitely plays better at home, though, so should still be a consideration for FantasyScore lineups.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins loves playing at home

Thu, 07 Jan 2016 10:58:47 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins' 74.7% completion percentage at home this season is the highest ever in an NFL season, according to Elias.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($7,900, 15.8% of cap) is a solid QB1 option against the Green Bay Packers on FantasyScore for the wild-card round.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins consistent this year

Tue, 05 Jan 2016 13:23:55 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins led the NFL in completion percentage (69.8%) this year and threw a touchdown pass in all 16 games for the first time in Washington history.

Fantasy Tip: While the Green Bay Packers defense has been one of their strengths this year, the Redskins have a legitimate shot at knocking them off with Cousins playing well for much of the year. Green Bay has been a bad fantasy matchup for opposing quarterbacks, too, but you have to at least think Cousins will be serviceable as your starting daily QB.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins stellar in light duty

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 17:09:01 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 12 of 15 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns before being lifted in the second quarter in a 34-23 win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins is playing as well as any quarterback heading into the postseason, and he could be a solid value at FantasyScore depending on his price tag.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins starting

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 12:16:32 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will start in Week 17 against the Dallas Cowboys, according to head coach Jay Gruden, despite the Redskins having nothing to play for. Cousins' snap count is still to be determined.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) is starting, but he may not play very long since the Redskins have nothing to play for as they secured the No. 4 seed last week. It's highly unlikely that Cousins will play the whole game, so it's probably best to avoid him when setting your FantasyScore lineups.

Redskins | Could Redskins rest starters?

Tue, 29 Dec 2015 09:27:52 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins could be rested for Week 17 as the team has clinched the division crown. "We'll have to wait and see and talk about it as a staff and see where the injury report stands with Kirk and see how he's feeling," head coach Jay Gruden told reporters Tuesday, via the team's official site. "But I think he is pretty injury free, but if he is injury free, a lot will depend on who's playing around him, and go from there."

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) could only play a few series against the Dallas Cowboys, and he's not a good FantasyScore start.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins tosses four scores

Sat, 26 Dec 2015 20:52:36 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 31 of 46 passes for 365 yards and four touchdowns in a 38-24 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has three straight 300-yard passing games and back-to-back four-touchdown performances. He is hitting his stride and looks like a viable starter at FantasyScore the rest of the way.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins settling in

Thu, 24 Dec 2015 19:53:08 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins said his job has become easier as the season has progressed because he has been able to develop a routine.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) has topped 300 yards in five of his last eight games, and he has thrown for 16 touchdowns and just three interceptions during the stretch. His best games have come a home this year, but as well as he has been playing, he is still worth a look at FantasyScore in Week 16 in a road matchup with a shaky Philadelphia defense.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins on record pace

Wed, 23 Dec 2015 15:48:02 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is on pace to complete 73% of his passes at home this season. That would be the highest single-season completion percentage at home in NFL history.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) has been tremendous in home games this season, especially last week during a 319-yard, five-touchdown outing against the Buffalo Bills. In total, Cousins has thrown 16 touchdowns and two interceptions in the confines of his home park; and he hasn't thrown a home interception since Week 1. While he is playing in Philadelphia this week, he's still a good starting option on FantasyScore and in your fantasy championship matchups.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins sets a record

Tue, 22 Dec 2015 20:36:51 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will finish the year with a 74.7% completion percentage at home this season, the highest in NFL history.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) has been brilliant at home, but unfortunately for fantasy owners, he closes the season with a pair of road games. He has six touchdowns and nine interceptions away from home.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins better with D-Jax

Tue, 22 Dec 2015 07:15:40 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is 152-for-214 (71%) for 1,888 yards, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions since WR DeSean Jackson returned from a hamstring injury.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) has elevated into the upper tiers of QBs on FantasyScore. He has a decent matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles this week.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins tosses four touchdowns

Sun, 20 Dec 2015 18:00:11 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 22 of his 28 pass attempts for 319 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 15 game against the Buffalo Bills. Cousins ran three times for 11 yards and a touchdown, too.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has back-to-back 300-yard games, and three in the past four weeks. He also has at least one touchdown pass in each of his 14 games this season, making him a reliable, yet unspectacular, fantasy option most weeks.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins may receive tag

Sun, 20 Dec 2015 10:31:41 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is a candidate to receive the franchise tag if the two sides are not able to reach a long-term contract, according to sources. The team wants to sign Cousins to a long-term deal this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has played very well since becoming the starting quarterback for the Redskins and likely will enter next season with the job. Cousins could be a decent fantasy option against some opponents but is not a must-start option.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins has strong start

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 15:25:13 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins was 24 of 31 for 300 yards and one touchdown Sunday, Dec. 13, in a 24-21 win over the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) has gotten better as the season has progressed and he has gained more confidence. He looks like a solid FantasyScore starter for the final few weeks of the regular season.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins tosses touchdown

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 22:48:03 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 22 of his 31 pass attempts for 219 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the Week 13 game against the Dallas Cowboys Monday, Dec. 7. He also ran once for six yards.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins didn't do very much until the fourth quarter. Despite the rather marginal stats he is a decent looking FantasyScore option in Week 14 against a Chicago Bears pass defense which has struggled.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins thrives at home

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 13:54:04 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins has thrown 11 touchdowns and two interceptions at home this season. He ranks first in home completion percentage, sixth in yards per attempt at home and second in touchdown/interception ratio at home.

Fantasy Tip: The difference between Cousins' home and road statistics is pretty astounding. He's a completely different quarterback in the confines of FedExField. Give him more consideration for FantasyScore lineups whenever the Redskins play at home.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins readies for G-Men

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 21:55:02 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will meet the New York Giants in Week 12. He will face a Giants pass defense which ranks last in the NFL, allowing 309.9 yards per game with 39 pass plays of 20 or more yards.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) is a sharp mid-tier FantasyScore play since he'll be facing an awful pass defense. He threw for 316 yards with a touchdown in Week 3 in the first meeting with the Giants.

Redskins | Mixed results for Kirk Cousins

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 15:36:20 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins threw for 207 yards on 22 of 30 passing in a 44-16 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Nov. 22. Cousins was sacked five times in the loss.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) only threw one touchdown, a 56-yard bomb to DeSean Jackson. Cousins is improving but the end result was the Panthers' defense is just way too strong. Keep an eye on how good a defense Cousins faces before throwing him in each week.

Redskins | Gruden wants Kirk Cousins signed

Tue, 17 Nov 2015 09:51:14 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins' recent play has fueled discussions for a contract extension, and head coach Jay Gruden wants the team to sign Cousins. Cousins can become a free agent in the offseason, and there is no evidence that contract talks have taken place thus far. Assuming his progress continues, Cousins might strike a deal with Washington in the $17 million to $20 million per year range, according to at least one person with NFL front-office experience, given the number of NFL teams seeking a quarterback to build around and the thin pool of prospects.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) has a tough matchup against the Carolina Panthers this week. We're not sure "we like that" matchup for FantasyScore usage this week.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins with career day

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 17:08:47 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 20 of his 25 pass attempts for 324 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in a 47-14 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) became the latest quarterback to torch the New Orleans secondary, but he should only be considered at FantasyScore against the friendliest of matchups.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins posts mixed numbers

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 14:18:14 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins was 22 of 40 for 217 yards in a 27-10 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, Nov. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) had seven of those passes dropped by his receivers early in the game, so this isn't exactly all on him. Still, this is Washington, where one false move can get you in a doghouse quickly. Odds are Cousins is the QB moving forward, but watch for any signs of movement.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins strong in furious comeback

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 14:06:52 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins threw for three touchdowns and 317 yards on 33 of 40 passing Sunday, Oct. 25, in a 31-30 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Redskins were down 24 points at one stretch.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) had a strong outing, enough to stave off the boo birds that have gathered over the Redskins in recent weeks. He's still too up and down to merit starting him every week on FantasyScore, but keep an eye on how strong the defense is that Cousins faces each week.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins remains the starter

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 19:08:19 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will remain the starting quarterback even after the Week 6 loss against the New York Jets, head coach Jay Gruden said Sunday, Oct. 18. He said the intent is for Cousins to remain the starting quarterback for the remainder of the season. "We stand behind Kirk," Gruden said.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) completed 25 of his 43 passes for 196 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He isn't worth using in FantasyScore, even at a mid-tier salary.

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 21 of his 32 pass attempts for 219 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the Week 5 game against the Atlanta Falcons. One of his INTs went for a touchdown in overtime.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) has thrown one touchdown in each of his first five games, but he also has two interceptions in three of those five outings. He isn't worth using in FantasyScore until he shows a little more consistency.

NFL | Eagles-Redskins could have weather issue

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 10:11:46 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford and Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins could be affected by Hurricane Joaquin in Week 4 Sunday, Oct. 4. The game could be postponed due to the storm.

Fantasy Tip: Bradford ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) and Cousins ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) are very middling options on FantasyScore anyway. You might want to steer clear this weekend.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins a turnover machine

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 09:03:31 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins has 29 turnovers in his last 17 games and has had two interceptions or more in eight of those starts. Against the New York Giants in three games, he has thrown only one touchdown and has eight interceptions.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Jay Gruden says the team is sticking with Cousins ($5,800, 11.6% of cap)... for now. How much longer can the 'Skins stick with him with Robert Griffin III on the sidelines? Bottom line: Cousins is a bad choice for FantasyScore lineups unless he drastically turns things around.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins to remain starter

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 06:07:42 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will remain the starting quarterback, according to Redskins head coach Jay Gruden. During his post-game press conference, Gruden was asked if he had thought about pulling Cousins in favor of QB Colt McCoy. Without hesitation, Gruden said there is no quarterback controversy. Cousins has struggled against the New York Giants in three starts, throwing one touchdown pass against eight interceptions.

Fantasy Tip: Washington hosts the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4, which could provide Cousins a quality opportunity to get back on track. However, he is, at best, a risky DFS play in fantasy circles.

Redskins | Robert Griffin III to stay as third QB

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 22:07:30 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III will remain third on the depth chart behind QB Kirk Cousins and QB Colt McCoy, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) will stay at No. 3 because the team does not want the financial repercussions of an injury. His 2016 option of $16 million vests if Griffin enters a game later in the season and suffers a catastrophic injury. Needless to say, you don't want to be anywhere near him in FantasyScore.

Redskins | Jordan Reed could be busy in Week 1

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 18:48:16 -0700

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed had 10 receptions for 121 yards on 13 targets in two games that he and QB Kirk Cousins played together last season.

Fantasy Tip: Reed ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has been plagued by injuries, but he is healthy heading into Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins, and he could be leaned on heavily by Cousins ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) as a safety blanket. Reed should make a safe source of cap relief at FantasyScore.

Redskins | Teammate calls Kirk Cousins a leader

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 15:10:32 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is a natural born leader and is ready to be the starting quarterback this season, according to WR Pierre Garcon. "You can tell from what kind of person he is that he's a leader, he's been doing it for a long time and he's excited about the opportunity. We definitely want to keep him excited and never want to, you know, have him lose that faith in himself. He's definitely ready and eager to get the season started to prove to everybody what he can do," Garcon said.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has not had a lot of success when he has started games in his career but likely will receive a few start to prove he can start. Cousins does not have a lot of fantasy value and is nothing more than a No. 2 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Redskins | Jay Gruden confirms Kirk Cousins starting

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 09:42:56 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will be the starting quarterback moving forward, according to head coach Jay Gruden. Gruden said "it's Kirk's team."

Fantasy Tip: This dispels any possibility the decision was a short-term move based on Robert Griffin III's (concussion) health. Cousins is a low-end QB2 that could be a matchup play on FantasyScore.

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 06:24:34 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins was named the starting quarterback Monday, Aug. 31, over QB Robert Griffin III, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins has a little more upside than the "game manager" purgatory, but he's a low-end QB2 in two-QB leagues. RG III should not be drafted at this point.

Washington Redskins QBs Kirk Cousins and Robert Griffin III still don't know who will start Week 1, according to a source. It was previously reported that Cousins was expected to start Week 1 over Griffin.

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 08:24:02 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will be the starting quarterback for the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29, since QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) has not been cleared to play.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins could open the season as the starting quarterback if Griffin remains sidelined because of his concussion. Cousins has not had a lot of success over the last few seasons and should not be a fantasy option.

Redskins | Colt McCoy, Kirk Cousins battling

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 16:58:55 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Colt McCoy replaced QB Robert Griffin III (concussion, shoulder) when he was injured in the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 20, not QB Kirk Cousins. Cousins is expected to be the backup entering the season, but head coach Jay Gruden said it remains an "open competition" for the backup job.

Fantasy Tip: With RG3 already injured behind a porous offensive line, there's a good chance that we see Washington's backup quarterback at some point this season. Cousins has more fantasy upside, but turnovers remain a big issue. Neither Cousins nor McCoy should be drafted.

New York Jets QB Geno Smith was nearly replaced by Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins, whom the team would have traded for if they hired Dan Quinn as head coach. Quinn wanted to bring Kyle Shanahan aboard as offensive coordinator, and the tandem sought to acquire Cousins to be the starting quarterback for the Jets.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan Fitzpatrick has a chance to keep the starting job once Smith returns from his broken jaw. Both signal callers are QB2's that should be left on waivers except in deeper leagues.
