Redskins | Kirk Cousins wants to be ready

Tue, 07 May 2013 05:51:50 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins said he knows he has to prepare as if he will be the team's Week 1 starter at quarterback in case QB Robert Griffin III (knee) is not ready. "You feel that added excitement or added urgency to be ready to go," Cousins said. "We don't know what it's going to look like. He may be ready by mid-August. He may be ready mid-September, mid-October. I don't know. That's not my job. My job is to get myself ready and when called upon, deliver. And I'm going to do all I can between now and then to do that."

Redskins | Kirk Cousins will be ready if needed

Sun, 21 Apr 2013 11:02:08 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins said he will be ready to start Week 1 if QB Robert Griffin III (knee) is not ready to come back from his knee injury. "What I do know is I need to be ready and I will be," Cousins said. "And I will benefit greatly from the reps I get throughout (off-season workouts) as well as training camp and preseason games this coming August. I do believe he's gonna heal very quickly. I don't want to put any pressure on him to heal as fast as an [Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson], did but it wouldn't surprise me."

Redskins | Kirk Cousins thinks he can run read-option

Fri, 05 Apr 2013 12:11:50 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins said he believes he can run the read-option offense but would have to be crisper in his ball handling and decision making because he is not as fast as QBs Robert Griffin III (knee) or QB Pat White. Cousins said he would be willing to work on the read-option plays during offseason workouts and training camp if the coaches want him to work on them.

Redskins | Not sure if Robert Griffin will be ready for Week 1

Tue, 19 Mar 2013 12:56:35 -0700

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said he is not sure if QB Robert Griffin III (knee) will be ready for Week 1. He said Griffin will not return to the lineup until he is completely healthy. Shanahan indicated QB Kirk Cousins will receive all of the reps during offseason workouts but that Griffin will be watching film and workouts to get in mental reps.

Fantasy Tip: Griffin's recovery will be one of the biggest stories during the offseason and training camp. Griffin is definitely a starting quarterback in all fantasy formats, but owners that want Griffin will have to take a high-end No. 2 quarterback that they can use in case Griffin misses at least one regular season game. Cousins could be a short-term starter in deep leagues if Griffin misses some time but it will depend on the matchup.

Redskins | Not much difference between Robert Griffin, Kirk Cousins?

Wed, 19 Dec 2012 07:58:40 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Leonard Hankerson said there is little difference between QBs Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins as far as guiding the offense. "I honestly don't think it was that much different at all because both of those guys are high energy guys, they both come in the huddle with a whole lot of confidence, they talk to us a lot and I think they pretty much come in the same way," Hankerson said. "Even though Kirk hasn't been a starter for the past 13 games, he always in practice, he always comes in with high intensity and he talks to us all the same like he has been the starter. Kirk, he's a guy that prepares hard each and every week like he is the starter and it obviously showed on Sunday."

Redskins | Robert Griffin III will not start Week 15

Sat, 15 Dec 2012 18:32:26 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (knee) will not start Week 15. QB Kirk Cousins will start in Griffin's place.

Fantasy Tip: Although Cousins was impressive in helping the 'Skins beat Baltimore in overtime last week, he should only be started in Week 15 if you're in an extremely deep league that allows for two QBs in your starting lineup. Alfred Morris may be relied on more than usual as a result.

Redskins | QBs told to keep quiet prior to Week 15

Thu, 13 Dec 2012 07:48:03 -0800

Washington Redskins quarterbacks have been told not to reveal anything to the media regarding the team's starter for Week 15 following the injury to QB Robert Griffin III (knee) last week. "I was advised not to comment on the rep distribution," QB Kirk Cousins said. "So I'm sorry, but I'm not going to say anything along those lines, just to protect my team and give us the best chance to win Sunday." Griffin went so far as to admit that his limited non-contact work in practice Wednesday, Dec. 12, was partly for show. "Coming out here and doing what I did in practice, it's kind of a showcase for you guys to see me move around, and that I'm not on crutches or limping or anything like that," Griffin said. "But it's also for (my teammates) to see that I'm OK, and if I do step out there between those lines that they don't have to worry about me."

Redskins | Kirk Cousins to start in Week 15?

Tue, 11 Dec 2012 09:44:56 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon made it sound as if QB Kirk Cousins would be starting in Week 15 with QB Robert Griffin III (knee) banged up. "We have to play well around Kirk so Kirk doesn't feel like he has to save the team and help him to be a comfortable as possible," Garcon said. However, head coach Mike Shanahan said he "definitely" has not ruled out Griffin for this weekend.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins leads team to comeback, win

Sun, 09 Dec 2012 21:49:33 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins came on in the fourth quarter of the Week 14 game against the Baltimore Ravens for the injured QB Robert Griffin III (knee), and he threw an 11-yard touchdown with 29 seconds left to force overtime. The Redskins won with a field goal in overtime. The Redskins are the first team since the 1970 merger to have two rookie quarterbacks lead fourth-quarter comebacks in the same season.

Fantasy Tip: Cousins might be a hot waiver wire addition heading into Week 15 against the Cleveland Browns. An MRI on Griffin's knee came back clear, and he was diagnosed with a sprained knee. Still, he could miss next Sunday's game, making Cousins worth a roster spot in deeper leagues and those formats which require two starting QBs.

Redskins | Kirk Cousins eager for another opportunity

Wed, 10 Oct 2012 05:16:52 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins said he will be better if he receives another chance to start at quarterback. Cousins threw two costly interceptions in relief of QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) in Week 5. "As a quarterback, you have to take the good with the bad, but I would just call them two critical errors," Cousins said. "Besides those two plays, beyond that, it was good football, but those two critical errors are what quarterbacks get killed on. You've got to avoid those. I will learn from those and be a much better quarterback after going through that."

Tue, 09 Oct 2012 18:13:46 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins would likely get his first NFL start in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings if QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) suffers any sort of setback this week following a concussion in the Week 5 game against the Atlanta Falcons. The team also has QB Rex Grossman on the roster, but he has been inactive in each of the team's five games this season.

Redskins | No QB competition

Tue, 05 Jun 2012 05:30:39 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III said there will be no quarterback competition between himself and QB Kirk Cousins. "With Kirk, it's fine. They brought me in for a reason," Griffin said. "We all know they brought me in to be the starter, and I plan to be the starter, and they brought him in for a reason as well. He knows that. And it's not a competition. Let's just go ahead and say that. But we're cool ... We work out together, we were roommates for rookie minicamp, so there's no conflict there."

"But this is a great opportunity to learn and develop and to grow."

Redskins | Defend Kirk Cousins selection in draft

Wed, 02 May 2012 05:36:26 -0700

Washington Redskins quarterbacks coach Matt LaFleur said QB Kirk Cousins was just too good a player to pass up on in the NFL Draft, even though the team selected QB Robert Griffin III No.2 overall. "I thought Kirk would've been gone long before the fourth round, and when he's sitting there, and you have a high grade on him, it's like you can't lose with that pick, in my opinion," LaFleur said. "You can never have enough good players, especially at arguably the most important position of all of sports. This is a nasty game where some times things happen, and you have to go with somebody else, so we want to make sure we're secure at that position."
