|Redskins | Kirk Cousins red-hot during middle of 2016|
Wed, 22 Feb 2017 20:30:18 -0800
Impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins was mostly average as a passer in September (79-of-124 for 989 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions) and December (85-of-134, 1,090 yards, four TDs and three interceptions) but excelled in October and November (combined 220-of-313 for 2,551 yards, 17 TDs and four interceptions).
Fantasy Tip: Included in that midseason explosion was a 375-yard, three-score performance against a shorthanded Green Bay Packers secondary and garbage-time inspired 449-yard, three-TD effort on Thanksgiving Day against the Dallas Cowboys. Cousins is likely to receive the franchise tag soon, but it fair to wonder if he deserves it. He is certain to be drafted as a QB1 in the likely event he remains with Washington this season, but he could disappoint with DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garçon likely departing via free agency.

|Redskins | Kirk Cousins tag would bloat cap space|
Tue, 21 Feb 2017 06:41:53 -0800
Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins, who could potentially receive the franchise tag at $23.9 million, would account for 35 percent of the team's salary cap with CB Josh Norman ($20 million) and OT Trent Williams ($15.1 million).
Fantasy Tip: Cousins' numbers were on par, in some places better, than his breakout 2015 campaign. He has proven to be a solid fantasy option in the low-end QB1 range.

|Redskins | Kirk Cousins won't sign long-term deal?|
Mon, 20 Feb 2017 21:36:53 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Well, even if that is the case, the Redskins can still lock up Cousins over the long haul by turning a potential franchise tag into a long-term contract, and the deadline for that would be July 15. Either way, it looks like Cousins will be entering his sixth straight campaign in a Washington uniform, and after another fabulous showing in 2016, he'll have low-end QB1 potential.

|Redskins | Jordan Reed endorses Kirk Cousins|
Sat, 18 Feb 2017 19:16:47 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Reed is one of the best fantasy tight ends in the game when he isn't dealing with injuries. If Cousins is back under center in Washington in 2017, Reed should remain a TE1 in all formats.

|Redskins | Kirk Cousins wants tag?|
Fri, 17 Feb 2017 20:12:14 -0800
Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins would prefer to receive the franchise tag again in 2017 because he doesn't want to remain with the team long term, according to former Redskins officials.
Fantasy Tip: Cousins will likely be back in Washington in 2017 one way or the other, and he has shown over the last two years he is capable of providing big numbers. He will be a borderline QB1 next season.

|Redskins | No progress with Kirk Cousins|
Tue, 14 Feb 2017 15:56:10 -0800
Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins and the Redskins have not yet come close to an agreement on a long-term contract, according to sources. Thus, placing the franchise tag on Cousins for a second consecutive year is a real possibility. If Cousins is tagged, he would earn $23.94 million compared to the $19.95 million he earned last season. The goal of both sides, however, is to hammer out a long-term deal.
Fantasy Tip: There's no question Cousins deserves a long-term contract. He has two straight 4,000-yard seasons, including 4,917 yards in 2016 -- a franchise record. In addition, he has led the Redskins to two straight winning seasons while becoming a fixture in QB1 territory of fantasy football leagues. His running ability only adds to the lure. Assuming he does return to Washington, he's a low-end QB1 consideration.

|Redskins | 'High likelihood' Kirk Cousins is tagged?|
Thu, 09 Feb 2017 16:02:22 -0800
Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins and the team have shown "no indications that the sides are venturing closer in negotiations" and as a result, Mike Jones of the Washington Post believes there is a "high likelihood" that Cousins receives the franchise tag for the second straight year. That means he'd receive a raise in salary from $20 million to $24 million for the upcoming campaign, but the Redskins would lose all future leverage in trying to lock him up after that.
Fantasy Tip: Team president Bruce Allen and head coach Jay Gruden have been vocal about keeping Cousins, but it seems the two sides just can't agree on a long-term deal. They have about three weeks before deciding whether or not to use the franchise tag, and if that is indeed the case, it is seen as unlikely that Cousins would be back after next season. Either way, the 28-year-old is coming off his second straight stellar campaign and should be viewed as a low-end QB1 going into drafts in 2017.

|49ers | Kirk Cousins remains No. 1 choice|
Sun, 05 Feb 2017 23:20:04 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Cousins can be tagged franchise for another year, so we have to be careful to say a move to the 49ers is not etched in stone. Still, the Redskins are evaluating their needs and may decide keeping Cousins isn't worth the cost. A Cousins move would instantly upgrade the 49ers, but this is all still quite fluid.

|Redskins | WAS optimistic about Kirk Cousins deal|
Fri, 03 Feb 2017 15:58:51 -0800
Washington Redskins president Bruce Allen said he is optimistic that the Redskins will be able to sign impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins to a long-term deal. "I don't think it's as complicated as everyone wants to make it. And we'll get together with his agent, and I'm sure we'll come to an agreement," Allen said.
Fantasy Tip: It appears that Cousins will return to the Redskins under the franchise tag or with a new contract. He nearly posted 5,000 yards this season and finished with 25 touchdowns but could lose some of his targets with DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon scheduled to be free agents as well. Cousins can be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in most fantasy leagues in 2017.

|Redskins | Kirk Cousins happy with OC choice|
Sat, 28 Jan 2017 10:34:14 -0800
Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins said he is happy that the Redskins named Matt Cavanaugh as their offensive coordinator because he would not have to learn a new offense if he re-signs with the Redskins.
Fantasy Tip: The Redskins will try to sign Cousins to a long-term deal, but Cousins probably will receive the franchise tag if an agreement is not reached. Cousins finished this season with 4,917 yards, 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and can be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.
