Sat, 26 Oct 2013 06:11:03 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin (knee) said he is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation from a season ending knee injury. Maclin said he is frustrated about missing the year, and head coach Chip Kelly's offense. "Just knowing the type of success I could have had in this offense and the extra quality I could have brought to this team - that's the most frustrating part," Maclin said. "I'm one of the guys that can move around and be put in different spots. The fact that I played inside in college and have the quickness to play there and I've got the size and speed to play outside."
Mon, 14 Oct 2013 10:17:28 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said he does not expect OT Jason Peters (shoulder), SS Patrick Chung (shoulder) and RB Chris Polk (shoulder) to be full participants at practice Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Thu, 26 Sep 2013 10:38:59 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said the injury to OL Jason Peters (finger) is not a concern moving forward, even though it may limit him. "Are we gonna bench Jason Peters? No," Kelly said. "So it's not that much of a concern. We're still gonna play with J. We still think he's one of the best tackles in this game, but he's not exactly where he could be because he's got a limitation with the hand, but not to a point where we're gonna sit Jason down and put someone else in."
Sat, 21 Sep 2013 07:08:48 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly saw correctable mistakes in the team's Week 3 loss. "I think you draw on the positives," Kelly said. "What did you do well? And then you look at what correctable mistakes occurred in the game. That's what I talked about in the locker room after the game. The people that are going to fix this right now were in the locker room last night. It's our coaching staff and our players."
Sat, 21 Sep 2013 06:25:02 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said he wants more plays run on offense, and is not concerned with time of possession numbers. "Time of possession means nothing," Kelly said. "They're running a lot more plays, and we're not running enough plays. That's the whole argument I've always had with the time of possession. A team can hold it for 40 minutes, but if they run the same amount of plays, that's a different deal.
"Right now, we're not running enough plays on offense. We're turning the ball over too much. We're not executing the way we're supposed to execute. That's what we have to do to keep our defense off the field."
Sat, 14 Sep 2013 06:01:46 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles is still getting practice reps with the first-team offense in practice. Head coach Chip Kelly's practices are fast paced, which allows for extra reps for the backup quarterback. "You've got to make sure that you get your [backups] some reps," Kelly said, adding that it's the same way with the backup offensive linemen. "They [also] get a lot of work when we are presenting the other team's look. ... so Nick is getting reps in that standpoint, too. But it's important to make sure all those guys get some reps."
Tue, 10 Sep 2013 11:34:54 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly thinks his offense needs to be faster and quicker than what it was in their Week 1 win over the Washington Redskins. "We left the ball on the ground too much. We didn't get the ball to the officials. We could have sped things up from a process in between plays. That's something we need to work on," he said. The Eagles ran 53 plays in the first half alone and gained 322 total yards. However, they ran only 24 offensive plays in the second half. Redskins LB Brian Orakpo said their defense made an adjustment in the second half to put more players in the box and avoid being spread out by the Eagles' offense. Kelly said the difference in the first and second half had more to do with his management of the game.

Tue, 30 Jul 2013 10:46:07 -0700
The NFL might slow down Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly's fast-paced offense this year based on rule restrictions. "We have to make sure teams understand that they don't control the tempo, our officials do," NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said. "We're going through our normal ball mechanics, we aren't going to rush (unless) it's in the two-minute drill." Kelly prefers to run a play every 12 seconds, and his team at Oregon ran 82.8 players per game last season.
Tue, 23 Jul 2013 13:37:59 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said the team will name a starter by the week prior to Week 1, so there will not be a quarterback competition as the team prepares for their Week 1 game against the Washington Redskins.

Tue, 23 Jul 2013 12:49:48 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said the team will rotate quarterbacks in training camp until a starting QB emerges.
Fantasy Tip: Not much of a surprise here, as Michael Vick, Nick Foles and Matt Barkley will all get the chance to make a run at the starting job. As training camp and preseason games get played, there should be some clarity on what the Eagles are thinking in terms of who will ultimately start.
Fri, 12 Jul 2013 22:56:06 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said that the team's veterans haven't shown resistance to the changes that the new head man has instituted. "I think our older players have been the best to be honest with you," Kelly said. He also stated that it doesn't bother him when players speak out, like QB Michael Vick and WR DeSean Jackson did regarding the naming of a starting quarterback. He believes that teams like the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots have been successful with methods and schemes similar to his.
Fantasy Tip: The real tests are coming, of course, but Kelly's transition to the NFL may not be as drastic as some perceive.
Tue, 09 Jul 2013 16:11:54 -0700
In the opinion of writer Geoff Mosher, if Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly believes in Nick Foles and the long-term potential of Matt Barkley, Michael Vick could be cut.
Fantasy Tip: Plus, there's always Dennis Dixon to keep around thanks to his experience in this setup at Oregon. It's why the Eagles' QB situation should be avoided until the late backup stages in your draft. Foles could be a decent second option because he gets the ball out of his hands quickly, a must for Kelly's system. Vick is in more jeopardy than many think.
Wed, 26 Jun 2013 07:58:01 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly was penalized with an 18-month show-cause penalty, which means he won't be allowed to return to college coaching within the 18-month period. Kelly is being punished for the usage of recruiting services while he was head coach at University of Oregon.
Tue, 25 Jun 2013 13:56:13 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick said he and head coach Chip Kelly have an understanding after Vick made comments earlier in the offseason that he hoped a starter would be named by training camp. "Coach and I talked, and we have an understanding," Vick said. "I think the most important thing is the relationship that we have and continue to carry on, and the working relationship, which has been great. You're just trying to do what's best for this football team, and that's the reason I came back, to try and help this football team win games in the best way possible."
Sat, 15 Jun 2013 21:24:11 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson clarified but ultimately stood behind his comments about wanting to have the Eagles' starting quarterback named before training camp.
"I wish I could know, but at the end of the day, that's the coach's decision," Jackson said. "I'm going to play that how it goes. I think we have four great quarterbacks, with [Michael] Vick, [Nick] Foles, [Matt] Barkley and [Dennis] Dixon ... I think throughout the offseason, everybody did everything the right way, everybody practiced hard, everybody was there, accountable, and did the things they were asked to do ... moving forward, we just look forward to knowing who will be [the starter], because that'll definitely help us prepare better going into the season. He's [Chip Kelly] never been a coach of ours; of course, with a new system, he's going to want to know who best fits the system."
Wed, 12 Jun 2013 22:48:08 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles OG Evan Mathis was given the opportunity to express his feelings to The Associated Press about his head coach's unwillingness to declare which signal-caller is atop the depth chart. "I haven't been evaluating our quarterbacks because I'm focused on the offensive line, but I really don't see the point of Chip Kelly naming a starting QB before camp."
Fantasy Tip: Obviously, the media will be interested in anyone else's opinion about a topic once someone has expressed his, like Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson did about Kelly's decision, or lack thereof. This could lead to a pro-Kelly and anti-Kelly divide, or it could amount to nothing once everyone is on the same page. This should be an interesting training camp.
Thu, 06 Jun 2013 15:50:32 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said he has installed about two-thirds of the team's entire offense. The Eagles open training camp Thursday, July 25.
Wed, 05 Jun 2013 10:35:22 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick said that head coach Chip Kelly taught him how to hold a football. Kelly clarified by saying, "I didn't teach Mike to carry the football. He was just swinging it loose one day, and I told him to keep it tight. ... It was just kind of reiterating fundamentals, and it's like that with everybody."
Fantasy Tip: If there actually was something to this and Vick has had some sort of light-bulb moment, maybe it'll cut down his turnovers and/or give him more accuracy on his throws. This doesn't greatly impact his fantasy value; it's merely a potential change to keep in mind.
Wed, 05 Jun 2013 10:27:05 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has asked for a moratorium on depth chart questions, especially at quarterback, because nothing is finalized. Michael Vick and Nick Foles have each taken first-team snaps at OTAs for a substantial period. Foles said his consistency and comfort in Kelly's system has improved since last week. Vick talked about how "innovative" Kelly's offense is.
Fantasy Tip: The winner of this battle would be a No. 2 fantasy option with a starter's upside. Vick seems to have the job by a nose at the moment, but there's plenty of time for Foles to keep things close.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 05:44:26 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said Tuesday, April 16, following his first practice with the team he is in no rush to name a starting quarterback for the 2013 season. Kelly wants to create competition between QBs Michael Vick, Nick Foles and even Dennis Dixon. "There wasn't one set guy that just went with the ones the entire day," Kelly said. "All those guys got an opportunity to roll through ... It's April 16, so we're not playing until next September. We're going to use the full available time for us to make a full evaluation of what it is. I think it fosters competition. I think those guys love competition. That's why they're in that position, and they know it."
Tue, 16 Apr 2013 12:08:34 -0700
Free agent QB Trent Edwards (Eagles) asked the Eagles to be released, according to Eagles head coach Chip Kelly. Kelly said Edwards wanted to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
Tue, 16 Apr 2013 11:57:21 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles QB's Michael Vick and Nick Foles both split time taking first team reps at the team's minicamp Tuesday, April 16, according to head coach Chip Kelly. Kelly said that QB Dennis Dixon even got a first team rep.
Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on how the first team reps are split the rest of the summer as you start to put together your draft board, although it would not be a surprise if the Eagles kept quiet on what their plans were for the position.
Fri, 29 Mar 2013 07:39:18 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has rearranged the team's locker room structure, moving guys out of familiar spots and mixing position groups. "I think it's going to help us blend a little better as a team. You're with your position so much, in the meeting rooms and like that. This'll also have us hold each other accountable," OG Todd Herremans said.
Sat, 02 Mar 2013 07:12:38 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said he is not sure what the future holds for CB Nnamdi Asomugha with the team at this point; however, he thinks Asomugha is a classy person after meeting with him. "We've done film evaluation, and our staff and (general manager) Howie (Roseman) will sit down together and see where we'll move forward," Kelly said. "But as a person, I think he's outstanding."
Sat, 02 Mar 2013 06:43:43 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said he does not have a specific philosophy when it comes to attacking free agency; however, he warned that it's not a panacea for fixing a team's issues. "If you can find someone who can improve your team and get better, but I don't think there's, 'We have to get X amount of players this year,' or, 'Don't get X amount of players,'" Kelly said. "It's a fluid situation all the time. You can look at what you have on the roster, and you can say we want to get this position, but then you look at free agency, there's no one at that position who's better than what you have."
Thu, 21 Feb 2013 11:30:04 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said it was not accurate that he was close to becoming head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
Sat, 16 Feb 2013 08:20:27 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has been on record as saying he wants the football out of the quarterback's hands in 1.5 seconds. QB Michael Vick has been known to hold the football for too long; however, Kelly said that will not be a concern under his watch. "Some of the systems that they run they don't ask him to get the ball out quick. Do I think he can get the ball out quick? I think he's got an unbelievable release. It's up and out and it's quick," Kelly said of Vick. "What he's asked to do from a read progression and all those other things, I don't know what he's been asked to do in the past, but that's our job as coaches where he can get the ball out quickly, because we have some play makers on the offensive side of the ball that are going to flourish when we get the ball in their hands, so that's on us as coaches. Not on the quarterback."
Thu, 14 Feb 2013 06:05:47 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley believes RB LeSean McCoy can dominate in head coach Chip Kelly's up-tempo running attack. "He can be the best," Staley said. "He can be the best to play the game." Staley added the team's backfield "should be licking their chops" about playing for Kelly.
Wed, 13 Feb 2013 04:22:04 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said he likes his quarterback situation heading into 2013, with the experience of QB Michael Vick and the youth of QB Nick Foles. "You need to be built for the long haul. There is a skill set that Nick has that really excites me about him," Kelly said. "I think we've got an older quarterback in Michael who is 32 now, and have a younger guy in Nick who is going into his second year, and I think it's the ideal situation for us moving forward this season."
Wed, 13 Feb 2013 04:08:02 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick said that he believes he can be successful in new head coach Chip Kelly's high-tempo offense and that he's motivated to once again become an elite quarterback in the league. "Overall, you have to look at what really works and what makes you comfortable," Vick said. "I felt as if coming back made me comfortable. Meeting with Chip for first time, I felt like as if we can make it work."
Mon, 11 Feb 2013 16:17:21 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said part of the decision to bring back QB Michael Vick was partly based on what was available in free agency. Kelly said the decision was influenced by "what's out there on the quarterbacking landscape."
Mon, 11 Feb 2013 15:59:37 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly will call the offensive plays, not offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. Shurmur also added that the read-option will be part of the offensive package.
Mon, 11 Feb 2013 09:57:11 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly's offense is predicated on designed runs; however, it remains to be seen whether QB Michael Vick will be a good fit in such a scheme. Over the last two seasons, Vick averaged 6.7 yards per rush on scrambles and only 1.7 yards on designed runs.
Mon, 11 Feb 2013 09:19:27 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick wants to work with head coach Chip Kelly in the new offense and is confident that he will win the 2013 starting job outright.
Thu, 07 Feb 2013 13:27:51 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly like the idea of keeping QB Michael Vick. One of the outstanding issues for the coaching staff is that they don't know what they have in the Eagles quarterback, even though they think he is a viable passer. The Eagles are also concerned with Vick's injury history and with the number of turnovers Vick is responsible for.
Thu, 07 Feb 2013 13:12:11 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles C Jason Kelce has had numerous conversations with head coach Chip Kelly and is excited about the offense. "I'm pretty excited about the whole situation in general because I'm very familiar with the spread style of offense I think he's probably going to institute," Kelce said. "I did a lot of that in college. Basically, in my opinion, it makes an offensive line's job just so much easier. I'm excited about everything, and once they get a coach in here, I'll be excited to see what he says."
Wed, 06 Feb 2013 06:43:46 -0800
Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick is much bigger on the idea of staying with the team for the 2013 season than he was just a few weeks ago, after multiple meetings with head coach Chip Kelly. According to a source close to Vick, the two have had a couple meetings now, and Vick came away very high on Kelly. There are no guarantees, however, that Vick will return.
