Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said Tuesday, April 16, following his first practice with the team he is in no rush to name a starting quarterback for the 2013 season. Kelly wants to create competition between QBs Michael Vick, Nick Foles and even Dennis Dixon. "There wasn't one set guy that just went with the ones the entire day," Kelly said. "All those guys got an opportunity to roll through ... It's April 16, so we're not playing until next September. We're going to use the full available time for us to make a full evaluation of what it is. I think it fosters competition. I think those guys love competition. That's why they're in that position, and they know it."

Philadelphia Eagles QB's Michael Vick and Nick Foles both split time taking first team reps at the team's minicamp Tuesday, April 16, according to head coach Chip Kelly. Kelly said that QB Dennis Dixon even got a first team rep.
Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on how the first team reps are split the rest of the summer as you start to put together your draft board, although it would not be a surprise if the Eagles kept quiet on what their plans were for the position.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has rearranged the team's locker room structure, moving guys out of familiar spots and mixing position groups. "I think it's going to help us blend a little better as a team. You're with your position so much, in the meeting rooms and like that. This'll also have us hold each other accountable," OG Todd Herremans said.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said he is not sure what the future holds for CB Nnamdi Asomugha with the team at this point; however, he thinks Asomugha is a classy person after meeting with him. "We've done film evaluation, and our staff and (general manager) Howie (Roseman) will sit down together and see where we'll move forward," Kelly said. "But as a person, I think he's outstanding."

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said he does not have a specific philosophy when it comes to attacking free agency; however, he warned that it's not a panacea for fixing a team's issues. "If you can find someone who can improve your team and get better, but I don't think there's, 'We have to get X amount of players this year,' or, 'Don't get X amount of players,'" Kelly said. "It's a fluid situation all the time. You can look at what you have on the roster, and you can say we want to get this position, but then you look at free agency, there's no one at that position who's better than what you have."

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has been on record as saying he wants the football out of the quarterback's hands in 1.5 seconds. QB Michael Vick has been known to hold the football for too long; however, Kelly said that will not be a concern under his watch. "Some of the systems that they run they don't ask him to get the ball out quick. Do I think he can get the ball out quick? I think he's got an unbelievable release. It's up and out and it's quick," Kelly said of Vick. "What he's asked to do from a read progression and all those other things, I don't know what he's been asked to do in the past, but that's our job as coaches where he can get the ball out quickly, because we have some play makers on the offensive side of the ball that are going to flourish when we get the ball in their hands, so that's on us as coaches. Not on the quarterback."

Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley believes RB LeSean McCoy can dominate in head coach Chip Kelly's up-tempo running attack. "He can be the best," Staley said. "He can be the best to play the game." Staley added the team's backfield "should be licking their chops" about playing for Kelly.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said he likes his quarterback situation heading into 2013, with the experience of QB Michael Vick and the youth of QB Nick Foles. "You need to be built for the long haul. There is a skill set that Nick has that really excites me about him," Kelly said. "I think we've got an older quarterback in Michael who is 32 now, and have a younger guy in Nick who is going into his second year, and I think it's the ideal situation for us moving forward this season."
