The latest Matt Den Dekker MLB and fantasy baseball news
Mon, 13 May 2013 12:31:01 -0700 New York Mets OF Matt Den Dekker (wrist) should return to games no later than early June, and he had the cast removed from his fractured right wrist two weeks ago. Fantasy Tip: With the struggles of the Mets outfielders this year, Den Dekker is a realistic option to join the team later this summer once he proves fully healthy in the minors. He has excellent speed and can hit for power, although his lack of contact had the team worried this spring. Keep Den Dekker on your radar in keeper and NL-only leagues for this season.
Mon, 25 Mar 2013 12:04:44 -0700 New York Mets OF Matt Den Dekker (wrist) said he won't need to have surgery on his right wrist, and he'll wear a cast for a month. Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Den Dekker, but he'll have a lengthy rehab process and probably won't be an option for the big league club this year until September.
Sun, 24 Mar 2013 23:15:15 -0700 New York Mets OF Matt Den Dekker (wrist) got turned around trying to catch up to a fly ball hit by Detroit Tigers OF Austin Jackson that got caught in the wind and landed awkwardly after leaping in a failed attempt to haul it in. According to general manager Sandy Alderson, it appears den Dekker suffered a broken right wrist. "We don't know how serious it is," Alderson said. "It's serious enough, but we won't know any details about the exact condition or recovery time until the doctors take a look up in New York."
Wed, 20 Mar 2013 15:38:32 -0700 New York Mets OF Matt Den Dekker may be becoming too selective at the plate as he makes a conscious effort to make more contact. "I see a guy who has worked hard at trying to have a little more discipline at the plate, almost to a fault at times, where he ends up taking certain pitches he's got to 'hunt,'" manager Terry Collins said. "The philosophy and the theory we have here about working the count is not taking the first pitch. If that first pitch is the one you want, hit it, and hit it hard. If it's on the corner, if it's in, if it's out, if it's something you're not looking for, that's having the discipline to take it." Den Dekker is hitting only .194 with 14 strikeouts in 36 spring at-bats with one home run and three RBIs. Fantasy Tip: The Mets are likely to have him start at Class AAA in order to work on this part of his game. It might not work out they way they hope, but his power profile can't be ignored, even if the BA doesn't follow. He'll be in line for a call-up at some point this season, possibly in September.

Thu, 07 Mar 2013 14:20:40 -0800 New York Mets OF Matt Den Dekker has shown that he has legitimate big league power abilities, but he needs to show the team that he can make more contact if he wants to be on the major league roster. He struck out 154 times in 533 at-bats in the minors last year, which was the most by a minor leaguer with the team all year and 21st most in the minors last year. "One of the things we're working with Matt hard on is a two-strike approach - cut the strikeouts back so he makes better contact, because he's got such good legs that if he puts the ball in play, he's got a chance to get on base and score runs," manager Terry Collins said.
Fri, 01 Mar 2013 15:17:21 -0800 New York Mets manager Terry Collins said SS Jordany Valdespin will start playing some outfield in spring training, and he's hitting .429 in the Grapefruit League currently. OFs Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who is hitless in his last 15 at-bats, and Collin Cowgill are the favorites to platoon in center, but OF Matt Den Dekker is entering the picture. However, Den Dekker is unlikely to earn a roster spot, and he's not currently on the 40-man roster.
