Updating previous reports, Chicago Cubs P Gerardo Concepcion will receive a $3 million signing bonus, with the other $3 million being spread out over the five years of his deal.

Updating a previous report, the Chicago Cubs have officially announced the signing of Cuban P Gerardo Concepcion to a five-year deal worth a guaranteed $6 million. He will be sent to minor league camp but will be placed on the 40-man roster.

Chicago Cubs P Gerardo Concepcion agreed to a $7 million deal Thursday, Feb. 2, and the contract includes performance bonuses that could push the deal to $8 million. Concepcion must pass a physical to finalize the agreement.

The Chicago Cubs signed Cuban P Gerardo Concepcion to an undisclosed deal, according to an industry source. He had worked out for the Texas Rangers last week, and the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox, Miami Marlins, Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals were also interested.

Cuban P Gerardo Concepcion worked out for the Texas Rangers in the Dominican Republic Monday, Jan. 23, and Texas is among the favorites to sign him. The Rangers, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox have shown the most interest, but the Miami Marlins, Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals are also in on him. Concepcion has an offer extended to him and is expected to sign a major league deal in the next two weeks.

Updating a previous item, Cuban P Gerardo Concepcion has been declared a free agent and is open to negotiate with any major league team, according to his agent. The New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox have shown the most interest in the pitcher. He will work out at the Yankees' training facility in the Dominican Republic Thursday, Jan. 19.

Cuban P Gerardo Concepcion is close to gaining free agency status after he established residency in Mexico Tuesday, Jan. 17, according to his agent. He is training in the Dominican Republic and is expected to start negotiating with teams soon. The Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs are believed to be interested in the left-handed hurler. Concepcion is only 18 years old, but he went 10-3 with a 3.36 ERA in 21 games (16 starts) in the Cuban League last year.
