Cardinals | Matt Adams, Brandon Moss to compete

Tue, 26 Jan 2016 14:25:39 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals 1Bs Matt Adams and Brandon Moss will compete for the starting first base job in spring training, and Moss will have the inside track, in the opinion of MLB.com's Paul Casella. Both players hit from the left side, but Adams has a line of just .197/.230/.317 in his career against left-handed pitchers.

Fantasy Tip: Moss has the experience and Adams has youth and much more pop on his side. Both first basemen are coming off down years and will be cheap in fantasy drafts. This could be a straight platoon with Adams facing righties and Moss facing lefties, for the most part. Adams is more attractive to fantasy owners because of his power, even if he's only playing against right-handers.

Cardinals | Matt Adams avoids arbitration

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 14:55:16 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams re-signed a one-year, $1.65 million contract to avoid arbitration Friday, Jan. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Adams was limited to just 60 games last season, and he struggled with a .240/.280/.377 slash line when on the field. He is an endgame dice roll in all fantasy formats, and likely should be left on the waiver wire in the majority of seasonal leagues. That said, there is serious power potential, and monitoring Adams this spring is encouraged.

Cardinals | Matt Adams held off NLDS roster

Thu, 08 Oct 2015 12:17:45 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams was not included on the 25-man roster for the National League Division Series against the Chicago Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: Adams ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) can be ignored at FanasyScore during the NLDS, and a combination of Stephen Piscotty ($4,700, 9.4% of cap), Brandon Moss ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) and Mark Reynolds ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) project to man first base during the series. They're all matchup plays who should likely only be utilized in daily contests against the weaker starters of the Cubs.

Cardinals | Matt Adams sitting

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 15:22:39 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is out of the lineup Saturday, Oct. 3, with 1B Brandon Moss hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Moss ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) was 2-for-2 last night, but he's a boom-or-bust option on FantasyScore against Shelby Miller.

Cardinals | Matt Adams sitting out

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 08:12:30 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is out of the lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader Wednesday, Sept. 30, with 1B Mark Reynolds hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is a perennial boom-or-bust play, and he homered two nights ago. He's 2-for-7 (.286) with a homer off ace Gerrit Cole, but know the risk of a goose egg on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk, Matt Adams out

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 12:20:13 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk and 1B Matt Adams are not in the starting lineup against the Pittsburgh Pirates Monday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals are finally healthy, so there are daily lineup shuffles with Grichuk ($3,900, 7.8% of cap), Stephen Piscotty ($4,800, 9.6% of cap), Matt Holliday ($4,200, 8.4% of cap), Jason Heyward ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) and Tommy Pham ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) all in the outfield mix. Adams ($3,400, 6.8% of cap), Piscotty and Brandon Moss ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) are all seeing time at first base. Heyward and Piscotty appear to be the two who will see regular starts and are the best owns through the end of the season. At FantasyScore, you'll want to keep tabs on who is starting, but note the potentially tough matchup against J.A. Happ ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) Monday.

Cardinals | Matt Adams starting Sunday

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 10:55:26 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is in the starting lineup and batting fifth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Tyler Cravy on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Adams ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is getting a little work here and there as the team gingerly brings him back from his quad injury. Give him a chance in your lineup if you're looking for low-cost 1B help.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday, Matt Adams sitting out

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 14:20:17 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday and 1B Matt Adams are not in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Taylor Jungmann Thursday, Sept. 24. OF Randal Grichuk is in left field and hitting sixth, while OF Stephen Piscotty is at first base and batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) and Adams ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) have both played sparingly since they came off respective DL stints, and the Cardinals continue to ease them back in before the postseason. Count on them having very spotty production on FantasyScore for the rest of the year. Grichuk ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) and Piscotty ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) are both fine value picks in daily formats tonight against Jungmann.

Cardinals | Matt Adams starting vs. Reds

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 14:56:35 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is starting at first base and is batting fifth against Cincinnati Reds SP Keyvius Sampson Tuesday, Sept. 22. 1Bs Brandon Moss and Mark Reynolds remain out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Many folks may have forgotten about Adams ($3,400, 6.8% of cap). He has played sparingly since coming off the DL but has a solid matchup against the youngster Sampson. Adams is worth a gamble for his cheap price on FantasyScore tonight.

Cardinals | Randal Grichuk returns to the lineup

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 14:16:01 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk (elbow) is playing left field and batting sixth against Cincinnati Reds SP John Lamb Monday, Sept. 21. OF Matt Holliday (head) and 1B Matt Adams are not in the starting lineup Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Grichuk ($4,900, 9.8% of cap), Holliday ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) and Adams ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) are all either battling injuries or just returning from lengthy stints on the disabled list. With a playoff berth all but mathematically locked up, there is no reason to rush any of them back into the lineup. Though, each has seen some playing time of late. At this point, view all three as risky owns in seasonal leagues and risky starts at FantasyScore.
