Cardinals | No urgency on Trevor Rosenthal talks

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 04:52:34 -0800

The St. Louis Cardinals have no urgency to talk extension with RP Trevor Rosenthal.

Fantasy Tip: This is not as alarming as it sounds, because Rosenthal just reached arbitration. Still, he is one of the top closers in the National League and should be one of the top relievers off the board in NL drafts.

Milwaukee Brewers OF Khris Davis hit a home run off St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal in the ninth inning to give the Brewers a 4-3 win on Friday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has been one of the Brewer stars whose health has been good in the final weeks of the season. He is worth FantasyScore consideration.

Cardinals | Trevor Rosenthal was unavailable

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 14:40:48 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal was not unavailable in a save situation against the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday, Sept. 22, and neither was RP Jonathan Broxton. The Cardinals went with RP Kevin Siegrist to lock the game down in the eighth and RP Steve Cishek recorded the save. It was the 95th save of Cishek's career, and he became the sixth Cardinals reliever to record a save in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Rosenthal has been one of the more consistent closers in the league this year. He has 47 saves, a 1.49 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings. Continue to run with Rosenthal as your closer to finish out the season.

Cardinals | Trevor Rosenthal being rested more

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 13:12:48 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal has been receiving more strategic rest days since the All-Star break, and he has gone 9-for-9 in save opportunities while allowing just two runs, nine hits and three walks over 11 1/3 innings. "He knew he was pitching on fumes when we were finishing up right there before the break," manager Mike Matheny said. "We were asking him to pitch when he didn't have his best stuff, for sure. He's a little better rested right now."

Fantasy Tip: Rosenthal already has 34 saves on the season, and the Cards are the best team in baseball, so expect plenty more for the closer. He is back to being a top-tier source of saves, too, as he owns a 1.51 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 10.1 K/9 for the season.

Cardinals | Trevor Rosenthal expects to be fine

Tue, 14 Jul 2015 15:33:04 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal (arm) said he's dealing with "normal fatigue" and expects to be fine when the second half of the season begins Friday, July 17, against the New York Mets. Rosenthal allowed four earned runs in his final two innings of the first half over the weekend, and he threw 89 pitches in a five-day window in the team's last four games.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals were probably more lenient with Rosenthal's workload heading into the All-Star break knowing he would have multiple days of rest, but this development is worth watching. Kevin Siegrist would likely be next in line for save chances if Rosenthal's sore arm turns into something more.

Cardinals | Trevor Rosenthal has sore arm

Tue, 14 Jul 2015 14:55:32 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal (arm) is being scratched from the All-Star Game Tuesday, July 14, due to a sore right arm.

Fantasy Tip: Rosenthal had a great first half (1.49 ERA and 26 saves), but he limped into the break with a blown save and a loss against the Pittsburgh Pirates Sunday night, and he allowed four earned runs in two innings over the weekend. Luckily for his owners, he'll have almost a full week of rest to take care of his arm. Keep an eye on the situation. Kevin Siegrist could be first in line for save chances if the arm soreness lingers into the second half for Rosenthal.

Cardinals | Trevor Rosenthal to be preserved?

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 15:21:33 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal's agent Scott Boras stressed the importance of making sure his client is available late in the season, Monday, July 13. "The key thing to managing these players like Trevor is you've got to watch how many times you get them up (to warm up)," Boras said. "If you get them up and don't use them, you really have to record it -- otherwise you're going to have a guy who is up 12 times and pitches seven and then the fatigue sets in and you lose him at the back end of the season," said Boras.

Fantasy Tip: Rosenthal allowed three runs while taking the loss Sunday, so it's not surprising to see his agent rush to his defense. RP Kevin Siegrist has four saves in six opportunities this season, and he could see some chances if manager Mike Matheny elects to take Boras' advice.
