St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal will enter spring training as the team's closer.
Fantasy Tip: Rosenthal performed well when he was given the closer role this season. He should be considered a top 10 or 15 closer entering next season.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha had a no-hit bid ended with two outs in the ninth inning Tuesday, Sept. 24, against the Washington Nationals. 3B Ryan Zimmerman chopped one over the mound for an infield single. He was lifted immediately after the hit, as he had thrown a career-high 112 pitches. "I guess it just wasn't meant to be," Wacha said. "I came in with all intentions to just get the win." He struck out a career-high nine batters. RP Trevor Rosenthal secured the final out, nailing down his second save in as many days.

St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Friday, Aug. 23, that RP Edward Mujica (shoulder) would be available Saturday, Aug. 24. RP Trevor Rosenthal was warming for a save situation against the Atlanta Braves Friday, but SP Adam Wainwright ended up going the distance to eliminate any save chance.

St. Louis Cardinals RP Edward Mujica (shoulder) said he felt "much better" while playing catch before the game Friday, Aug. 23, but he's still unavailable to pitch.
Fantasy Tip: Mujica may need a couple more days to let the soreness and stiffness in his body calm down from being recently overworked. Trevor Rosenthal is the obvious candidate to record saves this weekend.

St. Louis Cardinals RP Edward Mujica (shoulder) is dealing with some fatigue, which is likely the result of soreness and stiffness in his right shoulder. He met with the medical staff and a chiropractor Thursday, Aug. 22, to have work done on his shoulder, lat and "a knot" near his neck. Mujica could be unavailable for at least another day. He notched a save Wednesday, Aug. 21, and said the pain doesn't come until after his appearance. Three of his last five outings have been two innings long, and his save Wednesday was 1 1/3 innings.
Fantasy Tip: Monitor Mujica's progress over the next few days to see how he bounces back. In the meantime, Trevor Rosenthal will likely close out games in the ninth. If you're speculating for saves, grab Rosenthal now.

St. Louis Cardinals P Carlos Martinez was promoted from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, July 11, and is available to pitch in relief immediately. RP Seth Maness threw 48 pitches on Wednesday, July 10, in the club's contest against the Chicago Cubs, and RP Edward Mujica has appeared in six straight contests.
Fantasy Tip: The Cards are still committed to Martinez as a starter, his role at Memphis, and he may be an option to them after the break, eventually, in that capacity. But the bullpen is heavily taxed, and Martinez probably made the most sense in the short term. Mujica would seem to be unavailable today, so perhaps Trevor Rosenthal would receive a save opportunity if it arises.

St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said RP Trevor Rosenthal was unavailable to pitch in a save situation Thursday, May 30, because he had warmed up to pitch in the previous five games. RP Edward Mujica was also unavailable, so RP Mitchell Boggs received the save chance, which he promptly blew. Boggs has allowed a run in two of his three outings since being recalled from the minors May 19.
Fantasy Tip: Boggs has been pretty awful this year, and another blown save likely means he won't get another shot at locking a game down in the ninth unless something drastic happens to Mujica or Rosenthal. Mujica has been rock-steady in the closer's role and is currently in no danger of relinquishing the job to Rosenthal.

St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said RP Edward Mujica will not be available to pitch Thursday, May 30. Mujica has pitched in four straight games.
Fantasy Tip: Expect Trevor Rosenthal or Mitchell Boggs to fill in if a save situation arises Thursday. Mujica has been rock solid for the Cardinals in the absence of Jason Motte this season.
