Cardinals | Trevor Rosenthal has eventful day

Sat, 21 May 2016 16:17:16 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while fanning two in an inning of work Saturday, May 21. It was a non-save situation.

Fantasy Tip: For whatever reason, Rosenthal just doesn't pitch well in non-save situations. He needed 34 pitches to end what was a 6-0 game, and he's unlikely to be available if a save chance presents itself Sunday. Kevin Siegrist was warming up behind him, and he could see the save opportunity. Rosenthal has walked a batter in six straight appearances and nine in his last five innings. He has only blown one save, though, and his seat probably isn't very warm.

Cardinals | Trevor Rosenthal earns save

Wed, 18 May 2016 22:22:59 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Colorado Rockies Wednesday, May 18, to pick up his eighth save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Rosenthal has not been used much this season but has not allowed an earned run in any of his last 10 appearances. Rosenthal is still a solid starting option for most owners even though he is being used less than other closers.

Cardinals | Trevor Rosenthal bounces back

Sun, 15 May 2016 20:22:10 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal picked up a save in a 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday, May 15, walking one and striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning. Rosenthal walked all three batters he faced without recording an out in his previous appearance, and he has seven walks combined in his last four appearances.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the save, there is no doubt that Rosenthal's walks have been up recently. Keep Kevin Siegrist stashed in case Rosenthal's control issues force the Cardinals to make a move.

Cardinals | Trevor Rosenthal shaky Thursday

Fri, 13 May 2016 07:42:03 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal walked the bases loaded on 14 pitches in a save situation and was removed from the game in favor of RP Kevin Siegrist against the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim Thursday, May 12. Rosenthal was pitching on back-to-back days for the first time this year. "He's got good stuff and needs to trust it," manager Mike Matheny said of Rosenthal. "You're going to have those days and you're going to have to figure it out, or someone is going to have to bail you out, which is exactly what happened today."

Fantasy Tip: Rosenthal still has an elite strikeout rate, fanning 14.7 hitters per nine innings, but spotty control has always been his weakness. He's walking an alarming 7.4 hitters per nine this year. However, there remains plenty of rope for him in the ninth, and no change is in the immediate future. Continue trotting Rosenthal out there on a daily basis.

Cardinals | Trevor Rosenthal blows save

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 00:53:25 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal allowed a home run to Milwaukee Brewers OF Domingo Santana and took the loss Wednesday, April 13, in a 6-4 loss.

Fantasy Tip: It was the first homer surrendered by Rosenthal this season and the 12th in his three years as closer. That's not a bad average. All closers have hiccups once in a while, and Rosenthal hasn't had too many. Keep him handy as a top RP.

Cardinals | Trevor Rosenthal OK after liner

Mon, 07 Mar 2016 05:25:18 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal (calf) took a comebacker off his right calf Sunday, March 6, but he remained in the spring game. "It'll probably be a little sore tomorrow," Rosenthal said. "That's definitely the hardest I've ever been hit."

Fantasy Tip: Rosey is one of the top relievers in fantasy.

Cardinals | Trevor Rosenthal wants to start?

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 17:00:06 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal said he hasn't closed the book mentally on being a starting pitcher, despite becoming one of the best relievers in all of baseball last year with 48 saves. He last started in 2012 in the minors. Rosenthal also cut down on his walks in 2015, going from 42 in 2014 to 25, while also maintaining his strikeout-per-nine-inning rate of almost 11.

Fantasy Tip: It's a pipe dream for Rosenthal. After he took the step with more control last year, Rosenthal has firmly entrenched himself as a top-10 fantasy closer.

Cardinals | No urgency on Trevor Rosenthal talks

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 04:52:34 -0800

The St. Louis Cardinals have no urgency to talk extension with RP Trevor Rosenthal.

Fantasy Tip: This is not as alarming as it sounds, because Rosenthal just reached arbitration. Still, he is one of the top closers in the National League and should be one of the top relievers off the board in NL drafts.

Brewers | Khris Davis homers to win game

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 01:07:53 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers OF Khris Davis hit a home run off St. Louis Cardinals RP Trevor Rosenthal in the ninth inning to give the Brewers a 4-3 win on Friday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has been one of the Brewer stars whose health has been good in the final weeks of the season. He is worth FantasyScore consideration.
