St. Louis Rams general manager Les Snead believes the team has the makings of a difference-making group at defensive line after selecting DL Michael Brockers in the first round of the NFL Draft. "We've got two young ends," Snead said in reference to DL Chris Long and DL Robert Quinn. "We've added (Kendall) Langford. We've got Darell Scott coming back. Bam! You throw in Brockers, and all of a sudden that unit gets strong. Now the defensive line becomes a dominant unit."

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said rookie DT Michael Brockers, the team's first-round selection, is explosive and instinctive. Fisher said it was important for the team to add a player like Brockers in their division, which features some downhill runners. "One person I know that's smiling right now is (LB) James Laurinaitis," Fisher said.

Brockers will likely start inside next to free-agent additional Kendall Langford. Fisher said Brockers is "NFL ready" and not a project for the team.

Twenty NFL Draft evaluators named North Carolina DE Quinton Coples as the most likely defensive end bust in this year's draft class. "His interviews are so delusional in terms of him thinking he's one way and everybody else saying that he's another," one personnel man said. "If he doesn't have it in him, people will be waiting for something that's not going to happen." Coples led with 5 1/2 votes, while Memphis DT Dontari Poe and Penn State DT Devon Still each received 3 1/2 votes. "Love Poe's ability," one scout said. "Don't like the way he plays. Pretty good kid. Quiet. Humble. Country. Pretty well-spoken. But he doesn't know what he doesn't know. If you tell him that he doesn't play hard, he's like,'Really?'" West Virginia DE Bruce Irvin received three votes, Michigan State DT Jerel Worthy received 2 1/2 votes and Louisiana State DT Michael Brockers and Illinois DE Whitney Mercilus received one each.

Broncos | Could trade down in first round

The Denver Broncos could trade their first-round pick, No. 25 overall, in the NFL Draft if Louisiana State DL Michael Brockers or Mississippi State DL Fletcher Cox are off the board. At that point, Denver could trade down to get another second-round pick or a later first-round pick. The Broncos need to find a defensive tackle early, but they also could use players at other positions.
