Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman is in line to start the preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 7, against the Seattle Seahawks with RB Montee Ball (appendix) out after an emergency appendectomy.
Fantasy Tip: Hillman is worth a look in the later rounds on draft day in most fantasy leagues just in case Ball struggles or suffers another injury to keep him sidelined.

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman is looking like a different player than he was last season and is showing improvement during training camp, according to head coach John Fox. "I have seen great growth," Fox said. "I think he's been a different guy in the meeting rooms with a full offseason this year and attacking it the way he did. He is starting to see the benefits of that here on the field. I have seen a drastically improved player." Running backs coach Eric Studesville said Hillman has shown his ability to catch the ball, his speed in the open field and toughness to run inside during camp.

Denver Broncos RB Juwan Thompson has moved to the front of the undrafted rookie running back pool and into the No. 4 spot on the depth chart behind RBs Montee Ball, Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson. His ability in the passing game might give him a leg up in the race with RBs Kapri Bibbs and Brennan Clay.
Fantasy Tip: Thompson was a solid tailback on an overachieving Duke team in 2014 for head coach David Cutcliffe, who is very familiar with QB Peyton Manning. However, even if Thompson were able to hang on and win the No. 4 job, he would still need an injury or two to gain fantasy relevance.

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman has been unbelievable this offseason, according to running backs coach Eric Studesville. Studesville said Hillman is starting to maximize his potential and it's been exciting to witness.
Fantasy Tip: Hillman could easily be the Broncos' third option at running back behind Montee Ball and C.J. Anderson this season. Unless one of the two is injured, he's not draftable in any scoring format.

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball, who leads the rest of the team's rushers with 559 career rushing yards from his rookie season, is looked at as a veteran on the staff, according to head coach John Fox. Despite his lack of experience, Ball is penciled in as the starting running back this year. The coaching staff is also very confident in what they have in Ball's young backups in RBs Ronnie Hillman, C.J. Anderson and Jerodis Williams. RB Brennan Clay's speed and quick learning of the playbook has him alongside Anderson for third-string repetitions.

The Denver Broncos will stick with RBs Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman for now, according to general manager John Elway.
Fantasy Tip: It wouldn't be surprising to see the team add a veteran for training camp, or even after the preseason once another club cuts a veteran, but Elway wants the backfield to run through its youngsters. However, he didn't mention potential sleeper C.J. Anderson, either, and he's still in the mix. Ball is the clear leader and will get first-round consideration, while Hillman is more of an RB4 at this point.

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman is focused on making the team after slipping down the depth chart quickly last season. "I have a chip on my shoulder now," Hillman said. "I am not paying too much attention to the depth chart. But I am not out here practicing to be No. 2." Hillman's work in regaining a job behind RB Montee Ball will start with him hanging onto the football. He fumbled twice last year inside the opponent's 10-yard line, and the team ran out of patient with him.
Fantasy Tip: Hillman is essentially undraftable if you were doing a draft today, unless you were using him as a handcuff to Ball in a deep league. C.J. Anderson has what it takes to become the backup to Ball, too.

Denver Broncos RB Montee Ball has the starting job, and the competition for the backfield is with the No. 2 spot, according to offensive coordinator Adam Gase.
Fantasy Tip: Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson are the main contenders. The bruising Anderson would seem to hold up better, but the slasher Hillman has more experience. It seems as if situational work would cancel them out as long as Ball is healthy and effective.

Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase said the team is looking for RB Ronnie Hillman to improve his play if he wants to make the team this upcoming season. Hillman has fumbled four times over the past two seasons.
Wed, 12 Mar 2014 13:17:01 -0700
The Denver Broncos are not expected to sign a running back at this point, because they want to give RBs Montee Ball, Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson as many offseason reps as they can before they consider adding a veteran running back.
