Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Aug. 12.

Fri, 11 Aug 2017 17:06:01 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) is scheduled to undergo reconstructive knee surgery and will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list.

Fantasy Tip: Jay Cutler will be the starter for the Dolphins this season and has had success under head coach Adam Gase. He will have a very good receiving corps to work with and could be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback. Tannehill will not be back until 2018 and has a uncertain future with the Dolphins.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill has partially torn ACL

Sun, 06 Aug 2017 13:11:40 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) has a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, but it is not known if he will undergo surgery. Tannehill suffered a similar injury last season and decided not to undergo surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill will significant amount of time if he does not undergo surgery and will miss the entire 2017 season if he does undergo surgery. He should be avoided in all fantasy leagues. Jay Cutler will be the starting quarterback for the Dolphins and will have a solid group of pass catchers to work with. Cutler can be a No. 2 quarterback for fantasy owners.

Dolphins | Concern growing for Ryan Tannehill

Thu, 03 Aug 2017 23:19:51 -0700

Updating previous reports, the Miami Dolphins are now worried that QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) undergoing season-ending knee surgery is the most likely and viable scenario, according to sources. No decision has been made, however, and both Tannehill and the team are expected to receive additional opinions and sort through their options, which include Tannehill resting the knee for six to eight weeks and then attempting to return. The Dolphins will take at least "several days" to make the decision, according to ESPN's Jeff Darlington.

Fantasy Tip: The news just keeps getting worse for Tannehill and the Dolphins as it now appears the absolute best-case scenario is six weeks of rest followed by another attempt to make it through the season on a bum knee that one source labeled a "ticking time bomb." The potential fallout would make Vault Boy's head spin: under center, would they go with Matt Moore or reach out to Jay Cutler or Colin Kaepernick? On the outside, how would those respective replacements affect Jarvis Landry, DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills? It's a bad situation, and until we have resolution it'd be prudent to avoid Tannehill and at least downgrade Parker and Stills.

Dolphins | Surgery possible for Ryan Tannehill?

Thu, 03 Aug 2017 18:24:05 -0700

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) could still have surgery to repair his partially torn knee ligaments and miss the 2017 season, according to a team source.

Fantasy Tip: If Tannehill ends up missing the season, it could take a bit of the shine off Miami's receivers. Keep an eye on the situation.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill wants second opinion

Thu, 03 Aug 2017 14:53:32 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) will seek a second opinion on his injured left knee, according to a source. It was reported earlier that Tannehill does not have structural damage, but he wants to be sure.

Fantasy Tip: Panic mode seems to have been avoided, but Tannehill's status will need to be monitored in the coming days and weeks. Again, though, he is merely a QB2 even when he's at full health.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill avoids serious injury

Thu, 03 Aug 2017 13:08:49 -0700

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) has no structural damage in his injured knee, according to a source. His knee did buckle, but it is in the same condition as it was before he went down in practice. Tannehill may still miss some time, but a timetable has not been disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Keep tabs on updates regarding Tannehill's injury, but it's promising so far. Tannehill injured the same leg/knee he injured last year, so the Dolphins will assuredly take it easy with him going forward. When fully healthy, Tannehill is a serviceable backup fantasy quarterback.

Dolphins | MIA concerned about Ryan Tannehill

Thu, 03 Aug 2017 08:06:47 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) left practice Thursday, Aug. 3, due to a left knee injury, and the team is concerned about his status, according to a league source.

Fantasy Tip: It's important to note that his already injured left knee is the area of concern. Tannehill severely sprained the ACL and MCL last season but didn't require surgery. It's too early to speculate, but the amount of upside he had as a QB2 in fantasy appears gone for now.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill leaves practice

Thu, 03 Aug 2017 06:23:27 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (undisclosed) fell awkwardly after scrambling to the sidelines on what could have been his left leg Thursday, Aug. 3. He left the field with trainers.

Fantasy Tip: It could be minor, and it's not clear he is bothered by the knee. However, that's the knee suffered an ACL sprain in last season. Tannehill is a quality fantasy backup if everything checks out.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker looking strong

Sat, 29 Jul 2017 19:22:27 -0700

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker is in "phenomenal shape" and has shown good timing with QB Ryan Tannehill, head coach Adam Gase said Saturday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: Parker has plenty of upside, but injuries and inconsistency have hindered his value. He still has time to realize his potential, and he is worth taking a chance on as a WR3 this season.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill doing well with knee

Thu, 27 Jul 2017 10:21:35 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) said his injured knee is "really good" and that he will wear a brace to protect it. He did admit that sliding could be an issue, however. Tannehill tore his anterior cruciate ligament late last season.

Fantasy Tip: The news is promising for Tannehill, but we won't really know how he plays with the brace until the preseason, if he plays in the preseason at all. Nonetheless, Tannehill has failed to prove himself as a QB1, even when healthy, and may forever be cemented in the realm of the QB2.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill moved well with brace

Mon, 24 Jul 2017 07:03:16 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) moved well in organized team activities despite a brace on his left knee, which he'll have to wear this season. However, they were non-contact drills.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has never had that breakout season, and expectations should be tempered. Running back Jay Ajayi is expected to be used heavily, and he could pad Tannehill's numbers in the passing game. A high-end QB2 still seems like Tannehill's ceiling this year with matchup play capabilities.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill excited for offense

Sun, 02 Jul 2017 19:28:54 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill said this year's offense is the best he has been a part of. "Honestly, I can say it's definitely the most talent we've had with the receiving corps, bringing everyone back, having a second year together in the same offense," Tannehill said.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill does have a bunch of weapons at his disposal, but it remains to be seen if it will lead to a breakout campaign. Grab him as an upside QB2. You could end up with a potential starter or valuable trade chip if he puts its all together.

Dolphins | Julius Thomas struggling

Sun, 18 Jun 2017 20:23:15 -0700

Miami Dolphins TE Julius Thomas has been a non-factor in practices and appears to have chemistry issues with QB Ryan Tannehill, according to Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel.

Fantasy Tip: The Dolphins are hoping that Thomas can be the weapon he was in Denver and not the bust he was in Jacksonville, but the early returns don't sound encouraging. You can stash him as a TE2 in case he returns to form, but don't count on him being a fantasy starter.

Dolphins | Coach happy with Ryan Tannehill's accuracy

Tue, 13 Jun 2017 18:02:46 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill's accuracy has been really good during offseason workouts, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill completed 67.1 percent of his passes in 2016, which was tied for sixth in the NFL. He struggled a bit with 12 interceptions but did finish with 19 touchdowns and 2,995 passing yards before suffering a season-ending injury. He will have plenty of weapons to work with in the offense and would be a fine No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill is at full health

Thu, 25 May 2017 12:24:00 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) said he is 100 percent healthy now after recovering from his anterior cruciate ligament injury last season.

Fantasy Tip: It's been a struggle for Tannehill the last couple years. While he does have the ability to achieve QB1 numbers, it's best to draft him as a QB2.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill better prepared

Fri, 05 May 2017 19:16:06 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) looks fully recovered from his knee injury, according to head coach Adam Gase, and Gase said Tannehill has a "better grasp of the offense" this season.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has had his moments, but he hasn't been able to make the leap to bona fide fantasy starter. Expect him to remain a serviceable fantasy backup in 2017.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill to stay in pocket

Sat, 04 Mar 2017 20:26:28 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill can still move outside the pocket, but he will be more of a pocket passer going forward.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has rushed for just six touchdowns in five years, so staying in the pocket more doesn't really change his fantasy value. He remains a QB2 heading into 2017.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill healthy

Thu, 23 Feb 2017 10:25:27 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) will be able to participate in all of the Dolphins' offseason activities. He will not undergo reconstructive surgery on his severely sprained knee. Weeks ago, Tannehill passed a battery of tests that determined the functionality and stability of his knees. Furthermore, Tannehill will not be more susceptible to future anterior cruciate ligament injuries in his left knee. Tannehill's rigorous rehabilitation program, including adult stem cell treatment, brought just as good results as surgery would have, according to team doctors and athletic trainers. Tannehill will play the 2017 season with a brace on the knee.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has plenty of time to get used to his knee and playing with the brace. Don't be surprised if he's held back somewhat in the offseason program, but he'll be good to go for the regular season as of now. Tannehill has yet to reach that "next level" in his career and remains a backup fantasy quarterback.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill's knee 'stable'

Sat, 04 Feb 2017 15:52:47 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) has reportedly considered stem cell and platelet rich plasma injections on his injured ACL, but a source close to Tannehill told the Miami Herald this week the quarterback's knee is stable.

Fantasy Tip: Although it is only February, Tannehill's ACL better be stable, as a surgery to repair a torn ACL usually take at least nine months to rehab, which would mean his best-case scenario would be a November return if he needs the surgery. At the moment, however, there's no reason to believe that is the case. Tannehill should return to being a serviceable fantasy QB2 if he returns without incident in 2017.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill doesn't need surgery

Mon, 30 Jan 2017 05:47:16 -0800

Updating previous reports, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) will not require surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament, according to sources. Tannehill had an MRI Monday, Jan. 30, to confirm the prognosis.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has been a mediocre quarterback in his five-year career, and he'll be 29 next season. If there were a season for everything to come together, it could be his second season under Adam Gase. He'll be a high-end QB2 in drafts.

Dolphins | Still no decision on Ryan Tannehill's knee

Wed, 25 Jan 2017 14:08:11 -0800

Miami Dolphins general manager Mike Tannenbaum said the team still has not decided if QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) will need to undergo knee surgery this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation because Tannehill could miss significant time if he needs major surgery on his knee. The Dolphins probably will make a decision on Tannehill in the near future. He played better as 2016 progressed; think a cheap backup with starting value based on the matchups.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill had issues on the road

Mon, 23 Jan 2017 17:25:47 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill threw for 1,400 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions on the road this season. He threw for 11 touchdowns and five interceptions at home.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill showed improvement during the season and was playing well when he suffered his season-ending injury. Tannehill could be asked to throw more in 2017 and should be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback or a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill may need surgery

Wed, 11 Jan 2017 11:29:50 -0800

Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase did not rule out the possibility of QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) undergoing major knee surgery during the offseason. Gase said the trainers are still evaluating Tannehill's injury.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill probably would have to miss some offseason workouts if he needs surgery and could be questionable for the start of training camp depending on the surgery. Owners should keep an eye on the situation over the next few weeks. Tannehill played well this season and could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback or a No. 2 quarterback in most leagues if he is healthy.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill still being evaluated

Wed, 11 Jan 2017 10:39:31 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) is still "going through the process" of having his knee evaluated to determine whether surgery is the proper course of action, according to Dolphins head coach Adam Gase.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has the weaponry and offensive system in place to a decent fantasy QB2 with a touch of upside in 2017. He has flashed at times in his career, but he is relatively young in terms of his quarterbacking maturation as a former wide receiver. Following a dismal 2016 effort, he will be greatly discounted in drafts.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill works with scout team

Fri, 06 Jan 2017 15:34:14 -0800

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) took snaps with the scout team during practice Friday, Jan. 6, and was able to throw some passes. Tannehill has been ruled out for the Wild Card playoff game but has not ruled out playing in the Divisional round playoff game if the team advances.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should keep an eye on the situation to see if Tannehill will be available if the Dolphins advance. Matt Moore will be starting against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first playoff game and probably should be avoided in most leagues.

Fri, 06 Jan 2017 10:30:07 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) was limited at practice Friday, Jan. 6, after sitting out the previous two days.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has already been ruled out for Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but this upgrade suggests he has a chance to play next week against the New England Patriots should the Dolphins advance. Matt Moore will get the nod and figures to be an uninspiring start in fantasy.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill out

Thu, 05 Jan 2017 07:19:06 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) will not play in the AFC wild card round of the playoffs, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: No surprise here. The Pittsburgh Steelers present a midrange matchup for Matt Moore. Moore averaged 224.7 yards passing, 2.7 touchdowns and one interception in the final three games. He's actually a midrange QB1 for the first round of the playoffs with so many muddy quarterback situations.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill idle Wednesday

Wed, 04 Jan 2017 09:27:27 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) won't practice Wednesday, Jan. 4, according to a source. No decision has been made for his practice status Thursday, Jan. 5.

Fantasy Tip: There is a shred of hope for Tannehill to start the first game of the playoffs, but he'll need to practice this week in order to do so. The Pittsburgh Steelers are a midrange matchup whether Tannehill or Matt Moore start. Both are pretty questionable plays, but if the price is right in DFS, there could be potential to load up elsewhere.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill needs to practice

Mon, 02 Jan 2017 16:24:44 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill must practice before head coach Adam Gase will consider playing him in the playoffs. Tannehill is recovering from a Grade 2 medial collateral ligament sprain. QB Matt Moore has been starting in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Moore has held his own while replacing Tannehill, but this is the playoffs. If Tannehill can't go then Moore will be playing on the road in a hostile environment. He can't be trusted for those playing in playoff leagues.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill day to day

Mon, 26 Dec 2016 06:12:00 -0800

Updating previous reports, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) is viewed as day to day, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Moore has been better than probably anyone could have hoped for in Tannehill's absence. It's probably unlikely Tannehill will play against the New England Patriots in Week 17 three weeks after suffering a Grade 2 MCL sprain and a partially torn ACL. The Pats are a midrange matchup, but will they rest guys a full game up on the Derek Carr-less Oakland Raiders now? There could be upside for Moore if he remains under center.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) is no longer wearing a cast on his leg and is able to walk around without crutches. Tannehill hopes to be ready for the wild card round of the playoffs if the Dolphins clinch a playoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill will have two weeks to prepare if he wants to play in a playoff game since the Dolphins would have to play as a wild card. He has played well at times this season, but owners should avoid him in all leagues.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill not shut down yet

Thu, 22 Dec 2016 06:59:22 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) hasn't been shut down for the season, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Fantasy Tip: For all intents and purposes, he's probably done unless the Dolphins make a deep playoff run. Matt Moore was stellar with four touchdowns against the New York Jets last week. The Buffalo Bills present a midrange matchup, but it's hard to expect Moore to repeat that performance. He's a DFS streaming option at the right price.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Moore filled in splendidly for Tannehill last week, but the Buffalo Bills pose a harder matchup. Buffalo has surrendered only 15 touchdowns to quarterbacks while picking off 11 passes this year. Moore will come back down to earth this week and should not be started.

Sun, 18 Dec 2016 08:20:52 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) will see how his left knee responds to rest and rehab before determining whether or not it is necessary to undergo reconstructive surgery. He suffered a slight tear and sprain to his anterior cruciate ligament in Week 14's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill continues to hold out hope that he can return before the end of the season, so keep checking back for updates on his progress. Matt Moore will serve as the Dolphins' starting quarterback in his absence and should be viewed as a low-end QB2 in all fantasy formats going forward, despite an impressive showing versus the New York Jets in Week 15.
