Dolphins | More freedom for Ryan Tannehill

Thu, 26 May 2016 16:28:12 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill said the Dolphins will mix things up in new head coach Adam Gase's offense. Tannehill said there's more variability and versatility under Gase than there was with former offensive coordinator Bill Lazor. Tannehill will also be adjusting more on the fly, whether that's with routes, protection or even just the play in general.

Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen if Tannehill can translate his excitement and newfound freedom into success on the field. Even with the offensive optimism in Miami, though, Tannehill is still comfortably in QB2 territory.

Dolphins | Mike Pouncey talks up O-line

Sat, 21 May 2016 17:06:38 -0700

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey said he is excited to play for offensive line coach Chris Foerster, and he said Miami's offensive line "better be" the best it has been since QB Ryan Tannehill entered the NFL in 2012.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill receives Manning tutelage

Mon, 09 May 2016 06:17:44 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has received instruction from retired QB Peyton Manning this spring.

"It was really cool just to be able to sit and pick his brain about things he's done in this offense and football things in general: snap counts, things you like, the way you want guys to run routes, little details about the game," Tannehill said. "We really just got to talk the game, which is something we both love."

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has thrown for more yards each of the last three years, and he enters a crucial fifth year in his career. He has struggled with the deep ball, which has kept him from being more than a low-end QB1. He should enter the discussion in the midrange of the QB1 cast on draft day.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill impressing head coach

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 17:56:34 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has impressed head coach Adam Gase so far in this young offseason. "I didn't realize how live his arm is," Gase said. "The more I watch him throw, it's effortless. That ball travels down the field pretty good. He's hit some big plays, just underneath having some touch; it's been good to see things live."

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has received his fair share of criticism over the last few years for underperforming. The news is promising thus far, but we'll see how he looks when the game matters. He has played better as his career has progressed, but he's not quite considered a consistent starting fantasy quarterback just yet.

Dolphins | Miami not ruling out QB

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 09:57:00 -0700

The Miami Dolphins said they could still draft a quarterback this year despite head coach Adam Gase being committed to QB Ryan Tannehill as the starting quarterback. "We added (Zach) Dysert, Logan Thomas, Ryan. But if the right opportunity in the draft presented for a quarterback we're not going to rule that out. We want to have as much strength and flexibility in the draft (as possible) and that's something Adam, Chris (Grier) and I talk about 25 times a day. In fact I think Adam, starts rolling his eyes when I start saying it. There's a lot more work to be done at every position," executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum said.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill was stuck in neutral last year despite throwing for more than 4,000 yards for the second straight year. Improved offensive line play and having Gase tutor Tannehill could lead to a breakout season for the Miami QB, though. Draft Tannehill as a low-end QB1 with upside for more in 2016.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill feeling confident

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 10:24:03 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill said he's "happy" and "excited" that new head coach Adam Gase has his back in the offense. "(Gase) has made it abundantly clear to me that we're on the same team," Tannehill said. "He has my back and just to have that reassurance, that confidence in me, it's huge." Tannehill never had the option to audible plays at the line of scrimmage under previous head coaches, but things will change under Gase.

Fantasy Tip: Allowing more freedom for Tannehill could be just what he needs to step his game to the next level. Gase has been known as somewhat of a QB guru, so his attachment to Tannehill should make fantasy owners optimistic that Tannehill can become a legitimate QB1 in 2016. Draft him as more of a low-end QB1, though, to be safe.

Dolphins | Ryan Tannehill feels 100%

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 14:19:22 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill took some time off after the season ended and feels 100% healthy after being sacked 45 times in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill has now had back-to-back seasons of 4,000-plus yards through the air. The knock on him has been his inability to stretch the field and make big plays down the field, and he'll need better protection in order to take the next step. There remains intrigue and upside, though, especially under new head coach Adam Gase. Draft Tannehill has a low-end QB1 or high-end backup.

Dolphins | Greg Jennings talks Ryan Tannehill

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 13:46:04 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill is far from an elite NFL quarterback in the eyes of WR Greg Jennings.

"We don't know who Ryan Tannehill is, but we want him to be this great guy, this great quarterback, this franchise quarterback, but no one has given him the freedom, the luxury, to call plays, make checks, to do the things that a great quarterback will have the opportunity to do," Jennings said. "This is no knock on Ryan. This is not Ryan's choice. He wants to be free," Jennings added. "He wants to have that freedom, that liberty at the line of scrimmage, as most quarterbacks do. When you show your quarterback that you trust him, you give him freedom." "It's like he's being handcuffed. I've played with Brett [Favre], I've played with Aaron [Rodgers]. I've played with great quarterbacks. So you can sense, you can quickly tell if one has [greatness] or not."

Fantasy Tip: Jennings has a point with the lack of freedom Tannehill has. He has shown potential in his young career so far, but has yet to prove himself as one of the better quarterbacks in the league. Jennings probably won't be returning to Miami, which may give him more courage to voice his opinions on the matter. Tannehill shouldn't be at the top of your fantasy quarterback priority list, but he's still a fringe QB1.

Dolphins | Tannehill most-sacked QB since 2012

Fri, 05 Feb 2016 12:04:16 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill was sacked 45 times in 2015 and has absorbed 184 over his four-year career, the most in the NFL over that time.

Fantasy Tip: Much of the blame belongs on the coaching instability in Miami, something the Dolphins hope they fixed with new head coach Adam Gase. Assuming Miami can address its underachieving offensive line in free agency and the draft, Tannehill is a prime bounce-back candidate next season under Gase, who worked wonders for Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears last year. As such, Tannehill warrants consideration as a low-end QB1 in 2016.

Dolphins | Job security for Ryan Tannehill

Sun, 31 Jan 2016 11:25:21 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill won't have any competition at quarterback this offseason, according to executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum. Tannenbaum is convinced Miami can win with Tannehill and does not feel compelled to draft a quarterback to compete with him.

Fantasy Tip: Tannehill played well in 2015, and he has increased his passing yardage every season, throwing for 4,208 yards last year in addition to 24 touchdowns. With Tannehill's own talent and the talent surrounding him, there's no reason to think he can't finish as a fringe QB1 next season.
