Seahawks | Trevone Boykin remains No. 2 for now

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 23:51:14 -0700

Seattle Seahawks rookie QB Trevone Boykin remains the team's primary backup to starter QB Russell Wilson, but beat writer Sheil Kapadia says don't be surprised to see the team add a veteran sometime in August.

Fantasy Tip: Boykin was a dual-threat option at Texas Christian University, but he is a project and not expected to take over anytime soon as long as Russell Wilson is in the mix. At this point, Boykin's fantasy appeal even in long-term keeper formats is rather minimal.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson elite with protection

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 12:36:57 -0700

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson led all quarterbacks in Defense-adjusted Value Over Average (DVOA) last season when he was adequately protected, according to Football Outsiders. DVOA measures efficiency by comparing success on every play to the league average based on situation and opponent. Wilson was solid under pressure, too, ranking fourth in DVOA among quarterbacks.

Fantasy Tip: The Seahawks may not need to pass as much as they did last season, especially late last season. Wilson is still a top-tier fantasy quarterback option, though, especially with his running ability.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson has made strides

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 14:31:08 -0700

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson has made a clear step ahead this offseason, according to head coach Pete Carroll. "His command is all-time. His ability to move defenders with his eyes to set up some things, he's consistently doing that, almost unconsciously, he's so clued in," Carroll said. "We saw him throw the ball all over the field throughout the offseason and he's been strong and accurate and really precise about stuff. He has had a great offseason."

Fantasy Tip: Wilson is one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in the league right now. He should be at least one of the first five quarterbacks taken in fantasy drafts.

Seahawks | Change in offense aided Russell Wilson

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 21:50:38 -0700

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson threw 24 touchdowns and one interception in the last seven games after the offense shifted to emphasize quicker passes, timing routes and spread formations. He was sacked 31 times in the first seven games and just 15 times in the last nine games as getting rid of the ball quickly helped negate struggles on the offensive line. Head coach Pete Carroll said to expect more of that in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson has always had Marshawn Lynch as a security blanket. Thomas Rawls impressed in a short window before breaking his ankle, but he isn't a sure thing like Beast Mode was. Wilson will have more responsibility on his shoulders to move the offense. He's a midrange option at the position in fantasy.

Seahawks | Trevone Boykin could be backup

Thu, 12 May 2016 15:47:15 -0700

Seattle Seahawks QB Trevone Boykin has a good shot at earning the backup quarterback position behind QB Russell Wilson, with only QB Jake Heaps with whom to compete. Head coach Pete Carroll thinks Boykin's style of play fits well with Seattle's offense and is similar to Wilson.

Fantasy Tip: Boykin does have an enticing skill set, but he won't have any fantasy value even if he earns the backup position as long as Russell Wilson is healthy.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson working with receivers

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 11:02:04 -0700

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and WRs Tyler Lockett and Paul Richardson have been working out together at the University of Southern California.

Fantasy Tip: It's always encouraging when quarterbacks and wide receivers work together during the offseason. Lockett definitely has more upside than Richardson and is one of the more promising young deep threats in the NFL. Doug Baldwin, Lockett and Jermain Kearse figure to be Seattle's top three wide receivers. It's safer to stay away from Richardson for now.

NFL | Seahawks the youngest NFL team

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 15:41:24 -0800

The Seattle Seahawks and QB Russell Wilson qualify as the youngest team in the NFL entering the 2016 season with an average age of 23.53. The Los Angeles Rams (23.96), Green Bay Packers (24.13), Miami Dolphins (24.39) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (24.51) make up the rest of the top five.

Seahawks | Seattle wants to protect Russell Wilson

Tue, 16 Feb 2016 15:22:13 -0800

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson could lose impending free-agent OT Russell Okung and OG J.R. Sweezy in free agency, but Seattle's offseason focus will still be protecting their starting quarterback.

"I think that's a real area of focus again, so we'll be talking about it," head coach Pete Carroll said. "We've got a couple unrestricted guys [on the offensive line]. We're going to have to deal with how that works out. It's a really important area for us, of course."

Fantasy Tip: Ideally the Seahawks will re-sign both Okung and Sweezy, but that could be too tall of a task. Don't be surprised if the Seahawks draft and/or sign an offensive lineman, especially if they lose both Okung and Sweezy. Wilson was under pressure throughout the 2015 season without much time to throw without running. Nevertheless, Wilson should be viewed as a top-five fantasy quarterback in 2016.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson the Pro Bowl MVP

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 09:32:21 -0800

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson threw three first-half touchdowns in a winning effort for Team Irvin in the Pro Bowl Sunday, Jan. 31, to earn offensive Most Valuable Player honors. Wilson went 8-for-12 for 164 yards in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson elevated his game to a new level in 2015, and he'll no longer be known as strictly a game manager that can make things happen with his legs. Wilson is a legitimate QB1 for fantasy drafts this fall.

Seahawks | Russell Wilson to study in offseason

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 10:36:58 -0800

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, who led the league in passer rating (110.1) and set career highs in completion percentage (68.1%) and yards per attempt (8.3), will study defenses more this offseason, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Wilson tossed 24 touchdowns to just one interception in the final seven games of the regular season in 2015. Wilson improved against the blitz this year, too, with a 137.0 passer rating against five rushers or more in the final seven games.

"I think the first step is the knowledge," Wilson said Monday. "You want to continue to grow intellectually and master that part of it. Continue to work on that craft. I think that when you really mentally grasp the game of football, the game really, really slows down. And that's what was able to happen this year especially."

Fantasy Tip: Wilson went over 4,000 passing yards for the first time in his career as the Seahawks were forced to air it out after Marshawn Lynch went down. As a result Wilson soared to a new level, and his fantasy ceiling will be higher than ever as a legitimate QB1 in 2016.
