Rays | Joey Butler out Wednesday

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 09:04:25 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Joey Butler is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 29. C Curt Casali is serving as the designated hitter and batting seventh against Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has four home runs in his last two games and has earned himself everyday playing time, at least in the short term. His hot stick won't last forever, so you may want to capitalize while you still can on FantasyScore. Verlander has looked rather pedestrian with a 5.57 ERA in his seven starts this season.

Rays | Curt Casali back in there

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 14:30:59 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali is in the starting lineup for the fourth straight game after he slugged two home runs Monday, July 27.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has been swinging a hot stick and has, for the time being, overtaken Rene Rivera (.176/.210/.289) as the team's starting catcher. Don't be fooled: Casali remains a low-end catching option on FantasyScore, and he faces a tough matchup in Detroit Tigers starter David Price tonight.

Rays | Curt Casali starting again

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 07:38:24 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen Sunday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) could return sneaky value for FantasyScore players Sunday. He carries a contest-minimum salary, and each of his last five hits have gone for extra bases. Keep expectations in check, though, as he boasts a .225/.289/.525 slash line over only 45 plate appearances this season.

Rays | Curt Casali catching Saturday

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 12:10:48 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali will bat ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez Saturday, July 25. C Rene Rivera is getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is 3-for-19 this month with a home run and three RBIs and is only hitting .125 in 16 at-bats at Tropicana Field. Unless you desperately need FantasyScore salary cap relief, avoid using him.

Rays | Rene Rivera will not start

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 07:40:25 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Saturday, July 18. C Curt Casali will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) probably is receiving a day off and will be back in the lineup in the next game or two. Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has not done a lot at the plate in his limited playing time this season and is not a great option on FantasyScore.

Rays | Rene Rivera sitting out vs. Astros

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 08:32:50 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera is not in the starting lineup Sunday, July 12. C Curt Casali is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) enters the All-Star break with three runs, a home run run, seven RBI and a .421/.429/.632 slash line over his past six games. It is the best stretch of his otherwise awful season. Perhaps, he'll have a better second half, but Rivera shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a low-end catcher in AL-only, cavernous mixed and two-catcher formats. Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be viewed as a desperation source of cap relief by FantasyScore players Sunday, as has just 116 career plate appearances and a .561 OPS to show for them.

Rays | Rene Rivera out again

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 09:17:56 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova Sunday, July 5. C Curt Casali will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is receiving another day off and should return soon. Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has done a decent job during his limited playing time but should not be a starting option on FantasyScore.

Rays | Rene Rivera not starting

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 08:44:11 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda Saturday, July 4. C Curt Casali will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) probably will return to the lineup in the next game or two. Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has been decent at the plate since being recalled but should not be a starting option.

Rays | Rene Rivera not starting Sunday

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 07:44:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera is not in the starting lineup against Cleveland Indians SP Cody Anderson Sunday, June 21. C Curt Casali will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) likely will return to the lineup in the near future. Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has gone 3-for-6 since joining the team, but owners on FantasyScore may want to look for better options to use in their lineups.

Rays | Curt Casali finds the seats

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 21:55:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali went 3-for-3 with a walk and his first-career home run Wednesday, June 17, against the Washington Nationals.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600; or 3.2% of cap) is still behind Rene Rivera ($2,000; or 4.0% of cap) on the depth chart, but he can be a decent salary saver for FantasyScore players when he makes an occasional start.
