Rays | Curt Casali lands on DL

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 12:33:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali (hamstring) was placed on the disabled list Wednesday, Aug. 26, and the Rays called up C J.P. Arencibia from Class AAA Durham in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: With Casali on the shelf, expect the Rays to use a combination of Rene Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) and Arencibia at catcher. Neither backstop is very valuable in any fantasy format, although Arencibia did manage 22 home runs and 65 RBI for Durham this year.

Rays | Curt Casali exits early

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 20:39:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali (hamstring) left the game Tuesday, Aug. 25, against the Minnesota Twins due to a strained left hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) has emerged as a cheap source of power for FantasyScore players. Wait to see him officially return before pulling the trigger on him again.

Rays | Rene Rivera catching Sunday

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 12:53:54 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera will bat ninth against Oakland Athletics SP Kendall Graveman Sunday, Aug. 23. C Curt Casali will receive a scheduled day off.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is 8-for-23 (.348) during the month of August with a double and an RBI, and merits consideration for FantasyScore lineups that need a productive catcher at a low cost.

Rays | Curt Casali catching Sunday

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 11:42:35 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali will bat ninth against Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo Sunday, Aug. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is only 3-for-22 with a double, home run and three RBIs this month and is unlikely to get many RBI opportunities at the bottom of the lineup. He should be avoided in FantasyScore.

Rays | Curt Casali rallies Rays to win

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 05:06:16 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali had a home run as part of a six-run seventh inning, leading the Rays to a 9-6 win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) had been 1-for-26 since his home runs against the Detroit Tigers on July 27-28. He remains someone to avoid on FantasyScore, however, simply because of his meager .100 batting average in August. If he shows further signs of snapping out of it, he might be worth the low price.

Rays | Curt Casali exits early

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 19:32:39 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali (head) exited in the second inning against the New York Mets after being hit by a back swing Saturday, Aug. 8, but he said after the game that he should be available Sunday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) had four homers in two games in late July, but he has one hit in 20 at-bats since. Assuming he is back in the lineup Sunday, he is a shot-in-the-dark play at FantasyScore.

Rays | Joey Butler out Wednesday

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 09:04:25 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Joey Butler is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 29. C Curt Casali is serving as the designated hitter and batting seventh against Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has four home runs in his last two games and has earned himself everyday playing time, at least in the short term. His hot stick won't last forever, so you may want to capitalize while you still can on FantasyScore. Verlander has looked rather pedestrian with a 5.57 ERA in his seven starts this season.

Rays | Curt Casali back in there

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 14:30:59 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali is in the starting lineup for the fourth straight game after he slugged two home runs Monday, July 27.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has been swinging a hot stick and has, for the time being, overtaken Rene Rivera (.176/.210/.289) as the team's starting catcher. Don't be fooled: Casali remains a low-end catching option on FantasyScore, and he faces a tough matchup in Detroit Tigers starter David Price tonight.

Rays | Curt Casali starting again

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 07:38:24 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen Sunday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) could return sneaky value for FantasyScore players Sunday. He carries a contest-minimum salary, and each of his last five hits have gone for extra bases. Keep expectations in check, though, as he boasts a .225/.289/.525 slash line over only 45 plate appearances this season.

Rays | Curt Casali catching Saturday

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 12:10:48 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali will bat ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez Saturday, July 25. C Rene Rivera is getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is 3-for-19 this month with a home run and three RBIs and is only hitting .125 in 16 at-bats at Tropicana Field. Unless you desperately need FantasyScore salary cap relief, avoid using him.
