Ravens | Will continue to mix RBs

Thu, 16 Oct 2014 06:45:00 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Justin Forsett has thrust himself into the lead running back role for the team. He is fourth in the NFL with 408 rushing yards and leads the league with 6.4 yards per carry. The team still wants to use RB Bernard Pierce as an important part of their running game.

Fantasy Tip: Forsett ($5,800; 11.6% of your cap) continues to be a solid play on FantasyScore. However, it's concerning that the team hasn't fully committed to him like many teams would with another back performing this well. Pierce ($5,200; 10.4%) is a flex option, but he comes with risk.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce expected to play

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 12:04:15 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) practiced in full Friday, Oct. 3, and is probable for Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce was active last week but didn't play, as Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro performed well in his absence. However, with a full week of practice under Pierce's belt, we would expect him to see some work against the Colts. At $5,300 at FantasyScore, Pierce is a cheap sleeper option at running back.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce fully participates

Thu, 02 Oct 2014 13:37:24 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) participated fully in practice Thursday, Oct. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce is a very risky play this week with RBs Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro seeing the majority of the work from the backfield. It's best to stay away from Pierce for Week 5.

Ravens | Justin Forsett earning his keep

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 07:32:02 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Justin Forsett has done everything he can to own the starting running back job, in the opinion of beat writer Jamison Hensley. "He's making yards after the hit on his own," head coach John Harbaugh said. "That's kind of how you measure a back."

Fantasy Tip: The Ravens' backfield is a muddy situation, but Forsett is the most valuable in PPR leagues on FantasyScore. Lorenzo Taliaferro has been productive running the ball, but one has to believe that Bernard Pierce (thigh) will have a chance to be involved once he's 100 percent. Taliaferro and Pierce are just depth backs in fantasy right now, but both are flex options.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce sits as precaution

Sun, 28 Sep 2014 18:44:43 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) was active in Week 4 against the Carolina Panthers, but he said Sunday, Sept. 28, that he did not play as a "precaution."

Fantasy Tip: Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro were very effective in his stead, and the team likely decided it wasn't necessary to push it with Pierce and risk aggravating the injury.

Ravens | Two RBs split carries in win

Sun, 28 Sep 2014 18:36:42 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RBs Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro nearly split the carries in half in Week 4 against the Carolina Panthers with RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) held out as a precaution. Forsett carried 14 times for 66 yards and a touchdown, while the rookie Taliaferro had 15 carries for 58 yards and a score. Forsett also added three grabs for 31 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners of Forsett and Taliaferro had a reprieve this weekend, as it appeared all week Pierce would be ready to go, creating a three-headed monster in the backfield. All three are likely to see carries in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Ravens | Ravens RB situation muddled

Fri, 26 Sep 2014 17:07:59 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RBs Bernard Pierce, Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro have each led the team in rushing in a game this season. The Ravens are the only team to have a back with at least 90 rushing yards, giving them the eighth-ranked rushing attack despite having no one in the Top 12 among leading individual rushers. The backs each say they are uncertain who will get the ball in Week 4 against the Carolina Panthers, and offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak only indicated Friday, Sept. 26, that all three will play. "They're all going to play," Kubiak said. "We're going to keep a fresh guy on the field - that's what we're going to go - and if we feel like one guy has the hot hand, so to speak, then obviously he's going to go back out. I want them all to prepare as if they're starting."

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners cannot stand a running back situation like this, as one week a guy might be super productive only to disappear the following week. While Pierce is expected to start, Forsett could be the best fantasy option. He has at least 70 yards in each of his three games. Taliaferro might be the back near the goal line, so he has some appeal, too, if the price is right. Pierce, despite his starting status, might be the most risky since he is coming back from injury and has two hungry backs behind him.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce expected to play

Fri, 26 Sep 2014 11:57:37 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 26, and is listed as probable for Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce should regain his starting job after missing the game in Week 3. Pierce costs $6,400 on FantasyScore this week, but owners may want to avoid using him since he probably will share work with Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro.

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 13:23:37 -0700

Ravens | Bernard Pierce practicing

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 10:43:27 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (quadriceps) is participating in practice Wednesday, Sept. 24. Pierce missed the team's Week 3 game because of the injury.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce likely would get his starting job back if he plays in Week 4, but may lose the goal line carries to Lorenzo Taliaferro. Pierce costs $6,400 on FantasyScore this week against the Carolina Panthers, while Taliaferro costs $5,500. Both may be considered risky plays going against the Panthers defense, but they could be flex options for Week 4.

Sun, 21 Sep 2014 08:28:00 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) is inactive Sunday, Sept. 21, for the Week 3 game. RB Justin Forsett will start.

Fantasy Tip: Forsett ($4,700; 9.4% of your cap) is a great, cost-efficient flex play on FantasyScore. There is rain in the forecast in Cleveland, and he could be utilized heavily.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce facing tall odds

Sun, 21 Sep 2014 07:22:37 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) has a 5 percent chance to play Sunday, Sept. 21, according to a team source. RB Justin Forsett is likely to start.

Fantasy Tip: Forsett ($4,700; 9.4% of your cap) is a great play on FantasyScore if Pierce doesn't play. There is rain in the forecast in Cleveland, and he could be utilized heavily. He could be a PPR diamond in the rough this week.

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) is in serious doubt to play Sunday, Sept. 21, in Week 3. He'll be a game-time decision. RB Justin Forsett would start.

Fantasy Tip: Forsett ($4,700; 9.4% of your cap) would be a great play on FantasyScore if Pierce doesn't play. There is rain in the forecast in Cleveland, and he could be utilized heavily.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce should play

Fri, 19 Sep 2014 16:30:02 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) practiced in full despite being listed as questionable for Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns. Pierce should play in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce looked good in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers and appears to have reclaimed the starting role over Justin Forsett. If he's in the lineup this weekend, he's a decent play at FantasyScore against the Browns.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce questionable

Fri, 19 Sep 2014 13:19:53 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 19, and is questionable.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce should still be able to go in Week 3, but check back on game day to make sure he is active. Rice has a FantasyScore price of $6,500.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce limited

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 13:14:33 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce should still be able to play this week against a subpar Cleveland Browns run defense. His FantasyScore price could be worth it at $6,500.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce heads backfield

Thu, 11 Sep 2014 20:42:57 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce had 22 carries for 96 yards in the team's Week 2 game Thursday, Sept. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce's stay in the doghouse didn't last long, and he bounced back from his benching in Week 1 to carry the load in the Baltimore backfield. He could be a worth a look in FantasyScore in Week 3 when the Ravens take on a Cleveland defense that was shredded for more than 500 yards of offense in Week 1.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce should run most

Wed, 10 Sep 2014 07:49:27 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce figures to be the running back with the most carries at the end of the season, in the opinion of beat writer Jamison Hensley.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce ($6,100; 12.2% of your cap) is a risky RB2 on FantasyScore for Week 2. Justin Forsett ($4,700; 9.4%) is a better value as a flex option in the short term.

Ravens | Ravens have faith in Bernard Pierce

Tue, 09 Sep 2014 15:55:01 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce hasn't lost the faith of head coach John Harbaugh after fumbling in the team's Week 1 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Tip: While Justin Forsett, a hot waiver wire pick-up this week, stole the show in Week 1, Pierce remains firmly in the picture with Ray Rice no longer on the team. Pierce will cost you $6,100 (12.2% of cap) in FantasyScore this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Until we know more about this backfield timeshare, you may want to look elsewhere for a running back.

Ravens | Ravens RBs to see a lot of work

Tue, 09 Sep 2014 11:29:31 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RBs Bernard Pierce and Justin Forsett will "both play a lot" in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday, Sept. 11, and RB Lorenzo Taliaferro "will be a big part of it, too," according to head coach John Harbaugh. Harbaugh said Pierce is fine health-wise, but he was benched in Week 1 after fumbling. Forsett has the trust of offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak after the two worked together with the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Forsett should be atop most waiver wire target boards following Week 1 and the release of Ray Rice. However, despite his familiarity with Kubiak's system, it could be a committee approach moving forward, and Pierce could eventually become the lead back. Forsett will cost you $4,700 (9.4% of cap) compared to $6,100 (12.2% of cap) for Pierce. Forsett makes more sense this week as a flex option.

NFL | Ray Rice video news to league

Mon, 08 Sep 2014 07:59:06 -0700

The NFL didn't see Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice strike his now wife, Janay Rice, in video footage before suspending him for two games, according to NFL Vice President of Communications Brian McCarthy. "We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator," McCarthy said. "That video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until today."

Fantasy Tip: Rice could face further disciplinary action, and his Week 3 return could be in jeopardy. Bernard Pierce and Justin Forsett are weak RB3s or flex options.

Ravens | Ray Rice video might re-open probe

Mon, 08 Sep 2014 07:47:01 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice's domestic violence case could be re-opened by the NFL. Video footage of Rice reportedly striking his now wife, Janay Rice, in a casino elevator was released to the public. The league could render further disciplinary action.

Fantasy Tip: Rice is eligible to play in Week 3, but might be subject to missing more time. Bernard Pierce was benched in Week 1, and Justin Forsett's stock continues to rise. Forsett could be a bargain buy on FantasyScore as a flex option in Week 2 against Pittsburgh.

Sun, 07 Sep 2014 13:08:39 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce was benched during the team's Week 1 game because of fumbling issues, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Fri, 05 Sep 2014 12:33:47 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (concussion) fully practiced Friday, Sept. 5, and is probable for the team's Week 1 game.

Thu, 04 Sep 2014 13:18:55 -0700

Pierce was hurt in the first quarter of the team's preseason game against the Washington Redskins and did not practice Monday, Aug. 25. Pierce said via his Twitter account that he is feeling fine.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce leaves game

Sat, 23 Aug 2014 17:15:51 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (head) left the third preseason game early and is going through the concussion protocol.

Fantasy Tip: The team likely will have more information about the injury after the game, so owners should monitor the situation. Pierce is scheduled to start the first two games of the regular season since Ray Rice has been suspended. Lorenzo Taliaferro could start if Pierce is unable to play but probably is not more than a late-round flier in most leagues.

Mon, 18 Aug 2014 13:15:16 -0700

Ravens | Ray Rice to start seeing snaps decrease during preseason

Thu, 14 Aug 2014 11:13:37 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice is expected to work with the first-team offense during the second preseason game but likely will start losing snaps to RBs Bernard Pierce and Lorenzo Taliaferro since he will sit out the first two games of the regular season. Pierce and Taliaferro have received more work with the starting offense during practice, and Pierce is expected to start the third preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Rice's fantasy value probably will not be affected much by the suspension since it is only two games. Rice should be considered a low-end No. 2 running back or weekly flex option. Pierce should also be seen as a flex option since he receives snaps even when Rice is playing. Pierce could have the potential to become a fantasy starter especially if he plays well during the first two games. Owners who select Rice should consider taking Pierce as well.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce shining in training camp

Thu, 07 Aug 2014 12:40:02 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce has been the best running back in training camp, in the opinion of Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com. Pierce has had the best transition to offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak's stretch, zone-blocking runs.

Fantasy Tip: We already know that Ray Rice is coming off the worst season of his career and will be suspended for the first two games. This'll make Pierce a popular play for at least the first two regular season games, and depending on how he performs, he could seriously cut into Rice's workload for the remainder of the season. Pierce is a solid RB3 or 4 and a necessary handcuff if you own Rice.

Ravens | Pending Ray Rice suspension may force RBBC

Mon, 30 Jun 2014 10:58:12 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice's pending suspension may cause the Ravens to take a running back-by-committee approach. RB Bernard Pierce would be the likely front runner, with RBs Justin Forsett , Lorenzo Taliaferro, Cierre Wood and Fitzgerald Toussaint in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to gauge these players' values because we don't know how long Rice will be suspended, if he is suspended. Assuming Rice does receive a three- or four-game suspension, Pierce would fall in high-end RB3 to low-end RB2 range for that period of time, while Rice's season-long value would take a big blow and spiral him into RB3 or flex territory.
