Ravens | Bernard Pierce should play

Fri, 19 Sep 2014 16:30:02 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) practiced in full despite being listed as questionable for Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns. Pierce should play in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce looked good in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers and appears to have reclaimed the starting role over Justin Forsett. If he's in the lineup this weekend, he's a decent play at FantasyScore against the Browns.

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 19, and is questionable.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce limited

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 13:14:33 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (thigh) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce should still be able to play this week against a subpar Cleveland Browns run defense. His FantasyScore price could be worth it at $6,500.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce heads backfield

Thu, 11 Sep 2014 20:42:57 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce had 22 carries for 96 yards in the team's Week 2 game Thursday, Sept. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce's stay in the doghouse didn't last long, and he bounced back from his benching in Week 1 to carry the load in the Baltimore backfield. He could be a worth a look in FantasyScore in Week 3 when the Ravens take on a Cleveland defense that was shredded for more than 500 yards of offense in Week 1.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce should run most

Wed, 10 Sep 2014 07:49:27 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce figures to be the running back with the most carries at the end of the season, in the opinion of beat writer Jamison Hensley.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce ($6,100; 12.2% of your cap) is a risky RB2 on FantasyScore for Week 2. Justin Forsett ($4,700; 9.4%) is a better value as a flex option in the short term.

Ravens | Ravens have faith in Bernard Pierce

Tue, 09 Sep 2014 15:55:01 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce hasn't lost the faith of head coach John Harbaugh after fumbling in the team's Week 1 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Tip: While Justin Forsett, a hot waiver wire pick-up this week, stole the show in Week 1, Pierce remains firmly in the picture with Ray Rice no longer on the team. Pierce will cost you $6,100 (12.2% of cap) in FantasyScore this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Until we know more about this backfield timeshare, you may want to look elsewhere for a running back.

Ravens | Ravens RBs to see a lot of work

Tue, 09 Sep 2014 11:29:31 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RBs Bernard Pierce and Justin Forsett will "both play a lot" in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday, Sept. 11, and RB Lorenzo Taliaferro "will be a big part of it, too," according to head coach John Harbaugh. Harbaugh said Pierce is fine health-wise, but he was benched in Week 1 after fumbling. Forsett has the trust of offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak after the two worked together with the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Forsett should be atop most waiver wire target boards following Week 1 and the release of Ray Rice. However, despite his familiarity with Kubiak's system, it could be a committee approach moving forward, and Pierce could eventually become the lead back. Forsett will cost you $4,700 (9.4% of cap) compared to $6,100 (12.2% of cap) for Pierce. Forsett makes more sense this week as a flex option.

NFL | Ray Rice video news to league

Mon, 08 Sep 2014 07:59:06 -0700

The NFL didn't see Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice strike his now wife, Janay Rice, in video footage before suspending him for two games, according to NFL Vice President of Communications Brian McCarthy. "We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator," McCarthy said. "That video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until today."

Fantasy Tip: Rice could face further disciplinary action, and his Week 3 return could be in jeopardy. Bernard Pierce and Justin Forsett are weak RB3s or flex options.

Ravens | Ray Rice video might re-open probe

Mon, 08 Sep 2014 07:47:01 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice's domestic violence case could be re-opened by the NFL. Video footage of Rice reportedly striking his now wife, Janay Rice, in a casino elevator was released to the public. The league could render further disciplinary action.

Fantasy Tip: Rice is eligible to play in Week 3, but might be subject to missing more time. Bernard Pierce was benched in Week 1, and Justin Forsett's stock continues to rise. Forsett could be a bargain buy on FantasyScore as a flex option in Week 2 against Pittsburgh.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce benched

Sun, 07 Sep 2014 13:08:39 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce was benched during the team's Week 1 game because of fumbling issues, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce probably will start again Week 2 but could be on a short leash. Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro could have bigger roles in the game and may have some value in fantasy leagues.

Fri, 05 Sep 2014 12:33:47 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (concussion) fully practiced Friday, Sept. 5, and is probable for the team's Week 1 game.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce should get the bulk of the carries during the first two weeks of the regular season, and is not a bad value in Week 1 with a FantasyScore price of $5,300 (10.60% of cap).

Ravens | Bernard Pierce a full participant

Thu, 04 Sep 2014 13:18:55 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (concussion) practiced in full Thursday, Sept. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Pierce will receive the lion's share of the touches in the first two weeks with Ray Rice suspended, but in Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals, he may not have much room to run. Don't automatically expect Pierce to produce big numbers as the starting back.

Wed, 03 Sep 2014 13:31:08 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (concussion) is participating in practice Saturday, Aug. 30.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce update

Mon, 25 Aug 2014 13:26:26 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (concussion) is dealing with a mild concussion, according to head coach John Harbaugh. Pierce was hurt in the first quarter of the team's preseason game against the Washington Redskins and did not practice Monday, Aug. 25. Pierce said via his Twitter account that he is feeling fine.

Fantasy Tip: While Pierce may not play in the team's preseason finale, he should be available to start in the regular season opener. Pierce figures to start at least the first two games of the season while Ray Rice serves his suspension.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce leaves game

Sat, 23 Aug 2014 17:15:51 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (head) left the third preseason game early and is going through the concussion protocol.

Fantasy Tip: The team likely will have more information about the injury after the game, so owners should monitor the situation. Pierce is scheduled to start the first two games of the regular season since Ray Rice has been suspended. Lorenzo Taliaferro could start if Pierce is unable to play but probably is not more than a late-round flier in most leagues.

Ravens | Ricky Wagner wins starting job

Mon, 18 Aug 2014 13:15:16 -0700

Baltimore Ravens OT Ricky Wagner has won the starting right tackle job, according to head coach John Harbaugh. Harbaugh said Wagner earned the job.

Fantasy Tip: Wagner's play probably will help Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce because his play should help improve the team's running game.

Ravens | Ray Rice to start seeing snaps decrease during preseason

Thu, 14 Aug 2014 11:13:37 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice is expected to work with the first-team offense during the second preseason game but likely will start losing snaps to RBs Bernard Pierce and Lorenzo Taliaferro since he will sit out the first two games of the regular season. Pierce and Taliaferro have received more work with the starting offense during practice, and Pierce is expected to start the third preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Rice's fantasy value probably will not be affected much by the suspension since it is only two games. Rice should be considered a low-end No. 2 running back or weekly flex option. Pierce should also be seen as a flex option since he receives snaps even when Rice is playing. Pierce could have the potential to become a fantasy starter especially if he plays well during the first two games. Owners who select Rice should consider taking Pierce as well.

Ravens | Bernard Pierce shining in training camp

Thu, 07 Aug 2014 12:40:02 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce has been the best running back in training camp, in the opinion of Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com. Pierce has had the best transition to offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak's stretch, zone-blocking runs.

Fantasy Tip: We already know that Ray Rice is coming off the worst season of his career and will be suspended for the first two games. This'll make Pierce a popular play for at least the first two regular season games, and depending on how he performs, he could seriously cut into Rice's workload for the remainder of the season. Pierce is a solid RB3 or 4 and a necessary handcuff if you own Rice.

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice will be suspended for the first two games of the season, according to sources. The announcement is expected Thursday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: Rice rates as a mid-to-low RB2 after he misses the first two games. Bernard Pierce will likely take over in Rice's stead and should continue to see looks when he returns. Pierce is a low-end RB3 or a good RB4.

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 13:19:47 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce (shoulder) practiced Tuesday, July 22. Head coach John Harbaugh is pleased with his medical progression.

Fantasy Tip: If Pierce can get healthy and up to speed during training camp, he'll be a nice sleeper option at running back when RB Ray Rice is inevitably suspended. Keep tabs on Pierce and Rice throughout training camp and preseason.

Ravens | Pending Ray Rice suspension may force RBBC

Mon, 30 Jun 2014 10:58:12 -0700

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice's pending suspension may cause the Ravens to take a running back-by-committee approach. RB Bernard Pierce would be the likely front runner, with RBs Justin Forsett , Lorenzo Taliaferro, Cierre Wood and Fitzgerald Toussaint in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to gauge these players' values because we don't know how long Rice will be suspended, if he is suspended. Assuming Rice does receive a three- or four-game suspension, Pierce would fall in high-end RB3 to low-end RB2 range for that period of time, while Rice's season-long value would take a big blow and spiral him into RB3 or flex territory.

Ravens | Ray Rice important to offense

Fri, 14 Feb 2014 15:30:13 -0800

Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak thinks it's paramount that the team get RB Ray Rice going again in 2014 if the offense is going to be successful. Kubiak is expected to employ a run-first offense in a zone-blocking scheme, meaning Rice will receive plenty of opportunities. "Our goal is to get him going, and he's excited to get going and put last year behind him," Kubiak said. Kubiak plans to share the touches between Rice and RB Bernard Pierce.

Ravens | John Harbaugh suggests Ray Rice isn't healthy

Mon, 11 Nov 2013 14:58:24 -0800

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said RB Ray Rice (hip) health has been a big factor in his disappointing season so far. Rice's longest run of the season is for 14 yards, and he's averaging just 1.62 yards per tote on 29 carries since he said he was healthy coming out of the Week 8 bye. Harbaugh suggested he may ride the hot hand out of the backfield as the season progresses.

Fantasy Tip: Rice is more of an RB2 or 3 if this keeps up. Bernard Pierce hasn't been very effective, either, thanks to a struggling offensive line.

Ravens | Ray Rice says he hasn't lost a step

Thu, 07 Nov 2013 09:22:16 -0800

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice said he hasn't lost a step this season and said he's healthy, despite having 97 carries for only 259 yards this year, good for an average of 2.7 yards per carry. The Ravens rank 29th in the league in rushing offense. "If you watch the film, you'd understand that we've been playing pretty good fronts," he said. "We've got eight games left, and that's my focus now." A hip flexor strain in Week 2 limited his explosiveness, but he said he's been feeling fine in recent weeks. RB Bernard Pierce has averaged only 2.7 yards per carry, too, as the offensive line has struggled to open running lanes all year.

Fantasy Tip: Rice's disappointing season is probably a combination of his early season injury and the offensive line struggling. You have to remember that Rice has plenty of mileage on his legs, too, so he may finally be starting to see the effects of that. The second half of the season offers some hope, though, as he faces some weaker run-stuffing units down the stretch.

Ravens | Change offensive scheme

Tue, 22 Oct 2013 09:41:55 -0700

The Baltimore Ravens changed up their offensive scheme, with QB Joe Flacco running more plays from the shotgun and spread formations in Week 7. "We wanted to do a little of that and see if we could keep them on the field and run them around a little bit," Flacco said. The Ravens also ran the no huddle offense. These moves opened up the running game, and the team was able to establish the run with more success. RB Ray Rice had 15 carries for 45 yards and RB Bernard Pierce had six carries for 13 yards. The Ravens averaged 3.2 yards per carry.
