Panthers | No easy solution with Greg Hardy

Tue, 18 Feb 2014 19:39:51 -0800

There were no new developments in the contract situation with the Carolina Panthers and DE Greg Hardy. The team has two weeks to decide whether to use the franchise tag, which would buy the team another year to negotiate with Hardy. However, if they do tag him, it would consume nearly all of the team's unused cap space, which is a hefty price considering the team is looking to lock up franchise cornerstones QB Cam Newton and LB Luke Kuechly with huge deals in the next two years.

NFL | Manti Te'o does not have Luke Kuechly's abilities

Fri, 25 Jan 2013 11:08:52 -0800

NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said that Notre Dame LB Manti Te'o does not have the same abilites that Carolina Panthers LB Luke Kuechly had a year ago. "Kuechly was a tackling machine. Kuechly was set for today's NFL," said Mayock. "If you could match up a prototype inside linebacker with today's NFL, it is Luke Kuechly. With his speed he's a pass first linebacker. He can play three downs. You don't have to take him off the field in nickel; in fact, he's going to be better in nickel, so to me Kuechly is made for today's NFL. Te'o struggles a little bit more because he isn't naturally built that way. He isn't as naturally quick or the natural explosion or the change of direction like Luke. But that doesn't mean he isn't tough, instinctive and smart."

Panthers | Difficult decisions coming at linebacker?

Fri, 27 Apr 2012 12:02:06 -0700

The Carolina Panthers will have a competition at linebacker after selecting Luke Kuechly from Boston College in the first round. Middle linebacker is his specialty, but that spot has been held down by Jon Beason (Achilles'), who is returning from injury. It's tough to see Kuechly sitting. LBs Thomas Davis (knee) and James Anderson hold down the other two backer spots; Davis is coming off yet another devastating knee injury and Anderson set a single-season record for tackles with the team last year.
