Pittsburgh Steelers OG David DeCastro is not necessarily guaranteed to line up with the first team during offseason activities. "We'll play it by ear," head coach Mike Tomlin said. "Obviously he will be with the first team in rookie minicamp. We'll see how the rookie mini-camp goes."

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted OG David DeCastro and OT Mike X. Adams with their first two picks in the first two rounds of the 2012 NFL Draft. The last time the Steelers drafted offensive linemen in the first two rounds was 1968, when they picked Southern California OT Mike Taylor and Arkansas OT Ernie Ruple.

Jets | David DeCastro was backup plan

The New York Jets would have selected OG David DeCastro in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft if DE Quinton Coples were not available and team were not able to trade down. DeCastro was taken by the Pittsburgh Steelers later in the first round.

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said the team tried to trade up for OG David DeCastro because the team did not think he would fall to them. The Steelers could not find a trade partner but still were able to take DeCastro.

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie G David DeCastro, the team's first-round draft pick, should immediately challenge for a starting job. Head coach Mike Tomlin said DeCastro is a right guard, but the team is going to put their best players on the field. Gs Doug Legursky and Ramon Foster are the incumbents at left and right guard, respectively.
