DeCastro tore the medial collateral ligament in his knee in the preseason. He was in uniform the past two games but was only used on special teams.

The Steelers made the move likely because they wanted eight offensive linemen active instead of seven. OT Willie Colon (knee) was active but did not start at left guard. OG David DeCastro was active for the first time this year but didn't start, either.

The team is uncomfortable starting OG David DeCastro after he had just one week of practice. OG Ramon Foster would also be required to move positions in that case.
Mon, 26 Nov 2012 14:22:10 -0800 The Pittsburgh Steelers have activated OG David DeCastro (knee) from the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list and signed practice squad OG John Malecki to their active roster. The team also waived WR David Gilreath.
Sat, 24 Nov 2012 17:17:30 -0800 Pittsburgh Steelers OG David DeCastro (knee) said he is not sure if he will be able to play this season even though he has returned to practice this week. "I have no idea," DeCastro said. "I am just trying to go out every day and get better, get healthy. There is definitely room to improve. I have to get my strength back and endurance. I haven't played football in so long."
