Detroit Lions first-round draft pick OT Riley Reiff took snaps at left tackle during rookie minicamp Friday, May 11, and easily outperformed most of his competition. Head coach Jim Schwartz said he plans to play Reiff at multiple positions during orientation but that he'll switch Reiff's position on a practice-by-practice basis.

Detroit Lions rookie OT Riley Reiff, the team's first-round draft pick, should be a cornerstone on the offensive line for years to come. He will be given every opportunity to succeed in his rookie season and is expected to come in to compete immediately. He may not, however, replace LT Jeff Backus right away. The selection of Reiff wasn't a knock against Backus, but the reality is their veteran tackle is getting older and they need to protect QB Matthew Stafford long term.

Detroit Lions OT Riley Reiff said Thursday, April 26, that he wasn't even watching the NFL Draft when his phone rang two hours into the first round with the Lions on the other end. "I really didn't care to watch T.V.," Reiff said. "I was just hanging out in the barn." Reiff avoided the glitz and glamour of New York City, remaining in his hometown of Parkston, South Dakota instead.

The Big Ten Conference did not have any picks in the first 23 picks of the 2012 NFL Draft Thursday, April 26, until the Detroit Lions selected Iowa OT Riley Reiff. It is the first time the Big Ten didn't have a Top 15 pick in the draft since 1991.
