White Sox | Zach Putnam to DL

Thu, 24 Jul 2014 13:18:21 -0700

Chicago White Sox RP Zach Putnam (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list Thursday, July 24, with right shoulder inflammation. In a corresponding move, RP Andre Rienzo was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte.

Fantasy Tip: Putnam was getting looks in the ninth inning, so with him out of the committee, Jake Petricka should see more opportunities. Javy Guerra and Daniel Webb could also get an occasional chance. Matt Lindstrom should take over closing duties, when he returns from his ankle injury. However, Perticka is an immediate add, with Guerra and Webb more speculative additions, for those chasing saves.

White Sox | Ronald Belisario blows save

Tue, 24 Jun 2014 06:06:19 -0700

Chicago White Sox CL Ronald Belisario blew his fourth save Monday, June 23, allowing a three-run homer. It was his first blown save in nearly a month.

Fantasy Tip: The outing raised his ERA from 4.79 to 5.50, and his seat should start to get warmer. He has had little competition for the role, however. Daniel Webb is still struggling with his control, and Scott Downs' best days are behind him. Javy Guerra is one to watch. The former Los Angeles Dodgers closer has 12 K's in 12 1/3 innings and a 2.19 ERA.

White Sox | Matt Lindstrom needs surgery

Wed, 21 May 2014 16:11:04 -0700

Chicago White Sox RP Matt Lindstrom (ankle) will need to undergo surgery on his left ankle and will be out for an extended amount of time, according to manager Robin Ventura. There is no official timetable listed for Lindstrom's return, but Ventura knows it'll be more than 15 days. He is expected to pitch again this year. RP Ronald Belisario closed out a save chance in the game Tuesday, May 20.

Fantasy Tip: Belisario should be your first target for save opps, but he hasn't been that great this year and could share duties with either Daniel Webb or Frank Francisco. Unless you're in a bind in the saves column, it might be best to avoid this situation.

White Sox | Not naming a closer

Wed, 21 May 2014 08:32:32 -0700

Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura said the team won't name a closer with RP Matt Lindstrom (ankle) on the disabled list. "We're not going to name a closer," Ventura said. "We have options, guys who can do it. Even guys who are pitching in the eighth could go in the ninth. We have guys who can go multiple innings."

Fantasy Tip: Ventura typically likes to torture fantasy owners with indecision on such matters. Ronald Belisario earned the first save in the absence of Lindstrom Tuesday night, and he figures to be in the lead, but it's no sure thing. Daniel Webb and Frank Francisco could also have a say when all is said and done.

White Sox | Matt Lindstrom to DL

Tue, 20 May 2014 11:09:25 -0700

The Chicago White Sox placed RP Matt Lindstrom (ankle) on the 15-day disabled list with a sublexing peroneal tendon in his left ankle Tuesday, May 20, and recalled RP Javy Guerra from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Jacob Petricka filled in last night as the emergency option after Lindstrom left with the injury and picked up his first save. Petricka, however, probably won't be the best bet for most of the save opps in Lindstrom's absence. That honor will likely fall to Daniel Webb or Ronald Belisario, making either fine targets on the waiver wire if you're hunting for saves. Frank Francisco could have an opportunity to vulture some saves, too, but he comes with plenty of risk.

White Sox | Matt Lindstrom exits

Tue, 20 May 2014 05:33:36 -0700

Chicago White Sox RP Matt Lindstrom (foot) left the game Monday, May 19, after failing to field a bunt and injuring his left foot.

Fantasy Tip: Ronald Belisario, Daniel Webb and Scott Downs could fill in at closer if Lindstrom misses significant time.

White Sox | Nate Jones could become next closer

Sat, 25 Jan 2014 09:34:45 -0800

The Chicago White Sox aren't naming a closer heading into spring training this year, but RP Nate Jones could have a leg up on the competition. "Nate Jones throws the ball ninety-fricking-nine miles an hour. How can't you like that?" pitching coach Don Cooper said. General manager Rick Hahn also mentioned RPs Daniel Webb, Ronald Belisario and Matt Lindstrom as candidates to pitch in the ninth inning.

White Sox | Several in-house closing candidates

Mon, 16 Dec 2013 20:26:47 -0800

Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Monday, Dec. 16, that the team has several in-house candidates to take over in the ninth inning for the departed RP Addison Reed (Diamondbacks). Hahn identified RPs Nate Jones, Matt Lindstrom and Daniel Webb as the team's possible in-house candidates. RP Ronald Belisario (Dodgers), who is expected to complete a deal with the team soon, might also be in the mix.
