Free-agent WRs Chris Givens (Eagles) and Griff Whalen (Dolphins) worked out for the San Diego Chargers Tuesday, Sept. 13, according to a source.
Sun, 28 Aug 2016 14:25:51 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles WR Chris Givens was released by the team Sunday, Aug. 28.
Fantasy Tip: After an offseason in which he was supposedly making a move to start opposite Jordan Matthews, Givens was among the Eagles' first round of cuts. It bodes poorly for his NFL future that he was unable to last any longer for one of the more receiver-starved teams in the league. It is likely he'll get another chance or two, but Givens' promising rookie season with the then-St. Louis Rams in 2012 will probably go down as his best.
Wed, 17 Aug 2016 07:05:12 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles WR Rueben Randle and WR Chris Givens have failed to impress, and they could fail to make the team.
Fantasy Tip: Both were back-end considerations, but Randle was expected to be a PPR option as a possession receiver. They could still make the team and could still become fantasy factors, but the upside is minimal right now.
Tue, 14 Jun 2016 05:46:05 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles WR Rueben Randle is in the early lead for the Eagles' third receiver spot over WR Chris Givens and WR Josh Huff.
Fantasy Tip: Randle isn't a prototypical slot receiver, and Jordan Matthews figures to play the slot most of the time anyway. Randle is a possession guy that could play quite a bit on the outside. He's a WR4 with upside in fantasy. Givens and Huff are afterthoughts unless an injury occurs.
Sun, 12 Jun 2016 11:58:46 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles WR Chris Givens has put in a solid offseason so far and could challenge WRs Josh Huff, Nelson Agholor and Rueben Randle for playing time, according to CSNPhilly's Dave Zangaro. Givens is known for his deep-threat ability, but Zangaro said Givens has also impressed with his underneath routes so far.
Fantasy Tip: Even with the good offseason he's having, Givens' playing time is not guaranteed. Even when he does play, he is mainly a deep threat. He should only be viewed as a late-round flier in standard leagues.
Thu, 02 Jun 2016 10:58:43 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford said he plans to work out with several of the skill players during the first week in July in order to work on their timing leading up to training camp. WRs Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor and Chris Givens are among the players that will be part of the workouts.
Fantasy Tip: Bradford will try to improve his chemistry with some of the receivers before the start of camp. He will be the starting quarterback this season but probably will not be more than a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in most leagues.
Sun, 29 May 2016 20:46:25 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles WR Chris Givens said he was told the receiver competition is wide open, and he is hoping his big-play speed will help him make the team.
Sun, 20 Mar 2016 11:19:33 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor is still expected to start on the outside in 2016 despite the addition of WR Chris Givens. Agholor was a first-round pick whose development was stunted due to injury last year.
Fantasy Tip: Jordan Matthews is still, by far, the most valuable wide receiver on the Eagles heading into next season. He'll continue in the slot position, though. Agholor, Givens and Josh Huff each provide solid speed on the outside, but none of them should be viewed as more than a WR4 in standard leagues for now.
Wed, 16 Mar 2016 13:59:03 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles WR Chris Givens' one-year deal is worth $840,000, including $180,000 in guaranteed money and an $80,000 signing bonus. In addition, $100,000 of his $760,000 salary is fully guaranteed, including a $428,000 preseason split.
Fantasy Tip: Givens could receive more playing time with the Eagles than he would have with other teams. Jordan Matthews is really their only legitimate threat at wide receiver, but Givens should still not be viewed as more than a low-end WR4 or high-end WR5.
Wed, 16 Mar 2016 11:15:58 -0700
Free-agent WR Chris Givens (Ravens) agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Wednesday, March 16.
Fantasy Tip: The Eagles really don't have much behind Jordan Matthews on the depth chart, and Givens' best days were with Sam Bradford throwing to him. He could be a WR5 flyer worth taking based on opportunity knocking.
Wed, 16 Mar 2016 07:19:22 -0700
Free-agent WR Chris Givens (Ravens) is visiting the Philadelphia Eagles Wednesday, March 16.
Tue, 15 Mar 2016 14:41:26 -0700
Free-agent WR Chris Givens (Ravens) visited the New York Jets Tuesday, March 15, according to a source.
Fantasy Tip: Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker currently take up most of the fantasy value for wide receivers with the Jets. Givens would add another deep threat, but he's not starting material right now no matter who he's playing for.
Wed, 10 Feb 2016 16:37:13 -0800
Baltimore Ravens impending free-agents QB Matt Schaub, WR Chris Givens and TE Allen Reisner aren't expected to be re-signed.
Fri, 16 Oct 2015 15:42:13 -0700
Baltimore Ravens WR Chris Givens (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 16, and is listed as questionable for the Week 6 game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Fantasy Tip: Givens ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) appears to have a very good chance to play against the 49ers this week. Givens could receive a bigger role because of the injuries at the position, but owners should be able to find better options to use.
Wed, 14 Oct 2015 17:03:51 -0700
Baltimore Ravens WR Chris Givens (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 14.
Fantasy Tip: Givens ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) was acquired by the Ravens a little over a week ago and received two targets in Week 5 but was not able to catch either pass. His status for the Week 6 game against the San Francisco 49ers is uncertain, so owners probably should look for other options.
Wed, 07 Oct 2015 11:40:04 -0700
Baltimore Ravens WR Chris Givens will be involved in the offense in Week 5, according to head coach John Harbaugh.
Fantasy Tip: Givens ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is talented, and the team is thin at receiver, but it's a shot in the dark on FantasyScore against the Cleveland Browns.
Sat, 03 Oct 2015 06:57:30 -0700
St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens was traded to the Baltimore Ravens Saturday, Oct. 3. It is not known what the Rams will receive in return.
Sun, 08 Feb 2015 17:19:14 -0800
St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens is scheduled to have a base salary of $1.574 million with a cap count of $1.698 million. The team might deem it too much if Givens is the fifth receiver in a group with WRs Kenny Britt, Brian Quick, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey. Releasing Givens would save the team $1.574 million.
Fantasy Tip: Whether he stays or goes Givens is unlikely to be much of an impact player for fantasy owners in 2015.
Fri, 31 Oct 2014 16:43:33 -0700
St. Louis Rams WRs Stedman Bailey and Chris Givens split repetitions with WR Brian Quick (shoulder) out for the year in Week 8. Bailey played 22 snaps opposite WR Kenny Britt, and Givens played 21 snaps against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Fantasy Tip: Bailey ($3,100; 6.2% of cap) is the receiver you should target first in fantasy leagues and at FantasyScore. Givens ($3,000) is a tad cheaper in Week 9 against the San Francisco 49ers. Both are deep sleepers in a flex spot.
Mon, 13 Oct 2014 16:10:52 -0700
The St. Louis Rams have declared DL Alex Carrington, C Barrett Jones, CB Brandon McGee, QB Case Keenum, RB Chase Reynolds, WR Chris Givens, CB Trumaine Johnson inactive for Week 6.
Sun, 05 Oct 2014 08:42:20 -0700
The St. Louis Rams have declared C Barrett Jones, CB Brandon McGee, QB Case Keenum, WR Chris Givens, SS Mo Alexander, RB Tre Mason, CB Trumaine Johnson inactive for Week 5.
Sun, 17 Aug 2014 23:31:25 -0700
St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens has been surpassed on the depth chart by WRs Kenny Britt, Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey and Brian Quick, and Givens may be a bubble in terms of final roster cuts.
Fantasy Tip: Givens has promise, but there is a logjam at the position. Bailey is suspended the first four games, and Givens has a chance to prove himself again. Givens is a final-round flier as a WR5 or WR6.
Wed, 11 Jun 2014 09:53:56 -0700
The St. Louis Rams did not select a wide receiver with any of their 12 selections in this year's draft, and head coach Jeff Fisher said they are happy and confident with the group of young receivers they have on their roster. St. Louis ranked 29th in the league in receiving yards last year, 26th in yards per catch and were tied for 20th in receiving touchdowns. WR Tavon Austin came on strong late in his rookie year, and WRs Chris Givens and Brian Quick are expected to do more in their third seasons with QB Sam Bradford coming off an injury. WR Stedman Bailey will miss the first four games of the season due to a suspension, but the team also took a chance on WR Kenny Britt.
Fantasy Tip: Austin should be primed to take the next step in his sophomore season. One of the big reasons why the Rams' offense sputtered so much over the course of the season was because Bradford wasn't around. With a healthy Bradford, all of St. Louis' aerial weapons should benefit.
Mon, 31 Mar 2014 16:25:22 -0700
The St. Louis Rams signed free-agent WR Kenny Britt (Titans) to a one-year, $1.4 million deal Monday, March 31, according to a source. The deal could wind up being worth as much as $2.9 million. Britt will receive $550,000 in guarantees.
Fantasy Tip: Britt has a chance to start anew, and a reunion with coach Jeff Fisher in a new environment could rejuvenate the struggling wideout. If Britt can eliminate dropped passes and endear himself in this offense, he could be a surprise as a WR3 or 4 opposite Tavon Austin. He won't be given the job outright, though; he'll have to compete for a starting spot with Austin Pettis and Chris Givens.
Fri, 28 Mar 2014 06:01:32 -0700
St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher praised Clemson WR Sammy Watkins' talent, but he also said he likes what the team has at receiver. "I think with what we have on the roster right now, we can provide (quarterback) Sam (Bradford) with the talent to where we can win a lot of games," Fisher said. "We're expecting improvement. We're still seeing improvement from (receivers), for example, Brian Quick, Chris Givens who are going into their third year."
Thu, 16 Jan 2014 14:51:40 -0800
St. Louis Rams general manager Les Snead said the team doesn't necessarily need a No. 1 wideout to compete with the rest of their division moving forward, despite the Rams finishing 30th in the league in total yards and 22nd in offensive points in 2013. WR Chris Givens led the team's receivers with only 569 receiving yards last year, and St. Louis hasn't had a receiver even reach 700 yards since former WR Torrey Holt in 2008.
"I go back to this and the answer is really 'no' on that," Snead said. "I think our receivers right now, I truly believe as they progress and the oldest guy just finished his third year, we cannot have another receiver around here and we're going to be a good football team."
Sat, 14 Dec 2013 09:30:56 -0800
St. Louis Rams RB Benny Cunningham, RB Isaiah Pead and WR Chris Givens could be kick returner options Week 15 if WR Tavon Austin (ankle) is not able to play.
Mon, 21 Oct 2013 10:06:33 -0700
St. Louis Rams QB Kellen Clemens is expected to start at quarterback with QB Sam Bradford (knee) out for the rest of the season.
Fantasy Tip: Avoid Clemens everywhere, unless you're in a cavernous league that starts two QBs. Wideouts Chris Givens, Austin Pettis and Tavon Austin should be bumped down in your weekly rankings now, too.
Wed, 25 Sep 2013 18:57:05 -0700
St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens (knee) practiced in full Wednesday, Sept. 25, and he is considered probable for Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers Thursday, Sept. 26.
Tue, 24 Sep 2013 19:58:58 -0700
St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens (knee) was able to take part in a full practice session Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Mon, 23 Sep 2013 18:50:08 -0700
St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens (knee) was listed as having not practiced Monday, Sept. 23, due to a knee ailment.
Tue, 27 Aug 2013 09:00:40 -0700
The St. Louis Rams might only keep five wide receivers to start the regular season due to injuries at the tight end position. WRs Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, Chris Givens, Austin Pettis and Brian Quick are considered the "big five." WRs Emory Blake, Nick Johnson and Justin Veltung are believed to be battling for the sixth receiver job.
Fantasy Tip: Even if Blake, Johnson or Veltung were to find their way onto the roster, they're a long way from having any fantasy appeal.
Fri, 16 Aug 2013 11:43:13 -0700
St. Louis Rams Chris Givens continues to impress during training camp and the preseason. He had a particularly strong practice Thursday, Aug. 15, making several acrobatic grabs to the delight of offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.
Fantasy Tip: Givens is worth plucking off the board in the area of Rounds 10 through 12 on draft day. He has good speed, and knows the offense well. Teammate Tavon Austin has been going a little higher, around Round 6 or 7, but you might actually get more value with Givens.
Wed, 14 Aug 2013 14:05:44 -0700
St. Louis Rams wide receivers coach Ray Sherman said the team knows what WR Chris Givens can do as a deep threat, but want him to work in his intermediate routes because the team wants to use his speed on those routes. The team also had Givens add some muscle to help with his ability to get off press coverage as well as his blocking ability.
Mon, 12 Aug 2013 11:47:00 -0700
St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens said he is looking to improve his play this season and have a breakout season. "I'm really looking to improve my game," said Givens. "To make this year a mission statement for me and just to really come out and show I can do more than last year." Givens said he and QB Sam Bradford have chemistry because they have worked out a lot together.
Tue, 16 Jul 2013 20:03:30 -0700
St. Louis Rams WRs Chris Givens and Austin Pettis are each listed as projected starters on the team's initial depth chart heading into training camp. WRs Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey and Brian Quick are listed as 'key contributors'.
Fantasy Tip: There is still plenty to be hashed out during training camp and the preseason, but Givens is the best of the lot in terms of fantasy appeal due to his big-play ability.
Sun, 16 Jun 2013 20:44:04 -0700
St. Louis Rams WR Brian Quick reportedly had a disappointing spring, and he tumbled down the unofficial depth chart, working as the No. 4 receiver as organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp ended. However, it is believed the rookie Tavon Austin, Chris Givens and Austin Pettis just had better practices, as offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer had good words for Quick. "(Quick's) doing a lot better. He's stepped up this year. He's just much more comfortable," Schottenheimer said.
Fantasy Tip: As such, unless Quick can work his way back into a starting role, or injuries strike others at the position, he is only worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues.
Sun, 16 Jun 2013 20:42:34 -0700
St. Louis Rams WRs Austin Pettis and Chris Givens were working as the starting outside wide receivers as spring practices wound down.
Fantasy Tip: Pettis and Givens might be solid No. 4 fantasy wideouts, as occasional WR3 or flex plays, on draft day if they can maintain their starting spots in training camp and the preseason.
Mon, 27 May 2013 22:35:47 -0700
St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens connected with QB Sam Bradford on at least a few deep balls in practice Friday, May 24. Givens has added muscle and appears ready to handle a full season's workload.
Fantasy Tip: The added potency of new weapons - TE Jared Cook among them - may give Bradford more cred as a high-upside QB2. Givens showed big-play flashes last year and could be a WR4 in standard-scoring formats.
Sun, 26 May 2013 16:56:03 -0700
The St. Louis Rams offense is likely to be more high octane after adding plenty of weapons via free agency and the draft by QB Sam Bradford. However, it was holdover WR Chris Givens which Bradford was working with on the long ball during organized team activities (OTAs).
Fri, 22 Mar 2013 19:25:32 -0700
St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens will have a bigger role in 2013, as the team saw WRs Danny Amendola (Patriots) and Brandon Gibson (Dolphins) leave via free agency. Givens was more comfortable running short and intermediate routes as the season progressed last season, rather than just being a downfield threat. "He improved weekly," head coach Jeff Fisher said. "We were able to do more and more with him as he got more familiar. I think he knows that this is his opportunity."
Fantasy Tip: Givens had several long touchdowns last season, and fantasy owners were very familiar with him. However, he should be targeted even more frequently this season, making him a nice low-end WR2 or flex fantasy play. Look for a lot more consistency in terms of fantasy production in 2013, as last season he was mostly all or nothing.
Sun, 17 Feb 2013 17:49:14 -0800
If impending free-agent WRs Danny Amendola (Rams) and Brandon Gibson (Rams) are not brought back, that would leave St. Louis Rams WRs Chris Givens, Austin Pettis and Brian Quick as the only wideouts under contract with the team in 2013. However, head coach Jeff Fisher doesn't sound concerned either way, noting the team could look for help outside the organization. "Not a concern whatsoever," Fisher said. "There's options out there. The free-agent market, there's options out there, and it's a great draft for a receiver this year."
Sun, 09 Dec 2012 08:35:42 -0800
St. Louis Rams WR Danny Amendola (foot) is inactive for the team's Week 14 contest at the Buffalo Bills.
Fantasy Tip: Chris Givens has benefited in recent weeks with Amendola unavailable or severely limited, so that should continue. He's a solid WR3 or flex player against Buffalo.
Mon, 03 Dec 2012 16:13:04 -0800
St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher hinted that WR Chris Givens could have an expanded role the last four games of the season now that he's improving his short game. "Yeah, we've been talking about that. He's got to bring his game from the long touchdown passes back closer to the line of scrimmage and be more proficient in the short and intermediate passing game, and he's doing that. He's getting to where he needs to get to. He's making the quick catches. It's also very helpful when you have an accurate quarterback to put the ball where he needs to put it. He's a guy that, hopefully, as we push through the rest of the season, will have more plays. What we're looking for is the run after catch opportunities for him, but he's improving," Fisher said.
Sun, 02 Dec 2012 18:14:54 -0800
St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens posted a career-best 11 receptions for 92 yards in the Week 13 game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Sun, 25 Nov 2012 21:25:48 -0800
St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens finished with five receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown in the Week 12 win against the Arizona Cardinals.
Fantasy Tip: It was Givens' first career 100-yard game, and his five catches were also a career best. He has found the end zone three times in the past six games. He has emerged as a dependable WR3/4 or flex play in leagues of 12 or more teams.
Wed, 14 Nov 2012 15:09:07 -0800
St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said WR Chris Givens and CB Janoris Jenkins will play Week 11 but would not say if they will start. Neither player was active in Week 10 because they violated team rules last week.
Mon, 12 Nov 2012 18:05:27 -0800
St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said Monday, Nov. 12, that WR Chris Givens and CB Janoris Jenkins, inactive for the Week 10 game due to disciplinary reasons, will practice Wednesday, Nov. 14.
Mon, 12 Nov 2012 08:55:31 -0800
Updating a previous report, St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens and CB Janoris Jenkins missed curfew, and coach Jeff Fisher made them run stairs before the game in Week 10.
Sun, 11 Nov 2012 12:10:12 -0800
St. Louis Rams WR Chris Givens and CB Janoris Jenkins are inactive for Week 10 because they violated team rules.
