Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger misses practice

Wed, 13 Jan 2016 14:24:48 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) did not take part in practice Wednesday, Jan. 13, and he said he did not throw at all. He has yet to throw since a wild-card victory over the Cincinnati Bengals after suffering an AC joint sprain. Roethlisberger said he's unsure when he'll throw again, and he'll continue to receive treatment. He said it'll be "tough" for him to play in the divisional round against the Denver Broncos if he can't throw downfield. An AC joint sprain hinders the ability to throw with velocity. QB Landry Jones would make his third start of his career if Roethlisberger can't play.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) is as tough as they come, so he'll probably still play. But why risk it with a high-priced injured player against the top passing defense in the league? That wouldn't be wise on FantasyScore.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger on sidelines

Sat, 09 Jan 2016 20:21:29 -0800

Updating a previous story, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) returned to the sidelines against the Cincinnati Bengals, but QB Landry Jones remains in the game.

Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen if Roethlisberger is able to return to the game, but it is at least a good sign that he is out of the locker room and in pads.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger heads to locker room

Sun, 29 Nov 2015 16:47:30 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (undisclosed) left the Week 12 game against the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth quarter due to an undisclosed injury. He took a hit to the head, and the announcers speculated he could be having his head checked. QB Landry Jones took over with two minutes to go and the team down nine.

Fantasy Tip: If Roethlisberger is sidelined again it would be Landry Jones starting in Week 13, but it's too early to tell what is wrong with Big Ben this week.

Steelers | Landry Jones has sprain

Mon, 16 Nov 2015 13:58:19 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones (ankle) is dealing with a severe low-ankle sprain. QB Michael Vick is expected to serve as the backup behind QB Ben Roethlisberger following the Steelers' bye week.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger saves the day

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 16:12:20 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) came off the bench to replace QB Landry Jones (leg) and finished with 379 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in a 30-9 win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: For someone who wasn't supposed to play, Roethlisberger ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) showed no signs of being slowed by his foot injury. Assuming the Steelers elect to start him going forward, don't hesitate to use him at FantasyScore.

Steelers | Landry Jones returns to sideline

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 10:51:32 -0800

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones (ankle) returned to the sideline after being carted off with an ankle injury. QB Ben Roethlisberger remained in the game as the starting quarterback, however.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has been playing well since Jones left the game, but he isn't 100% himself. Jones' injury doesn't seem to be too serious, but stay tuned for an update.

Steelers | Landry Jones carted off

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 10:22:46 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones (ankle) was carted off the field after suffering an apparent ankle injury during the team's Week 10 game.

Fantasy Tip: Ben Roethlisberger will enter the game even though he is still dealing with his foot injury. The Steelers will have a bye in Week 11, and Roethlisberger should be the starter if he does not suffer a setback.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger serving as backup

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 08:41:15 -0800

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) is serving as the backup to QB Landry Jones for Week 10's game against the Cleveland Browns. QB Michael Vick is inactive.

Fantasy Tip: It's somewhat surprising to see Roethlisberger ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) active, with the Steelers having a bye next week. Jones ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) warrants consideration as a FantasyScore sleeper pick against the Browns.

Steelers | Landry Jones starting Sunday

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 13:34:11 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones will start against the Cleveland Browns in Week 10, according to QB Michael Vick. Vick also said he'll be Jones' backup Sunday, Nov. 15. QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) practiced in limited fashion Friday, Nov. 13, and is listed as questionable for Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: This was expected all along with Big Ben dealing with a sprained foot and the Steelers having a bye next week. Jones ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) has done well while replacing the injured Roethlisberger this year and deserves consideration as a deep sleeper on FantasyScore against the lowly Browns.

Steelers | Landry Jones likely to start Week 10

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 15:37:40 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones completed four of his six pass attempts for 79 yards in Week 9 against the Oakland Raiders in place of the injured QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot).

Fantasy Tip: Jones ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is expected to start in Week 10 against the Cleveland Browns with Roethlisberger expected to miss a few weeks with a mid-foot sprain. Jones is a nice low-end FantasyScore option at this price level.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger injures foot

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 13:03:18 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) left Week 9's game against the Oakland Raiders in the fourth quarter because of a left foot injury. He was carted off the field and will be replaced in the game by QB Landry Jones.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) went 24-for-44 for 335 yards with two touchdowns and an interception before leaving the game. Keep checking back occasionally for updates on his condition.

Steelers | Michael Vick could be available

Tue, 27 Oct 2015 10:10:22 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick (hamstring) has a chance to be available in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. However, QB Landry Jones is listed as the No. 2 quarterback behind QB Ben Roethlisberger on the depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: Right now, Big Ben is on track to make his return and start against the Bengals. It's highly unlikely that Vick ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) sees any playing time in this one unless an injury occurs. Avoid him everywhere.

Steelers | Landry Jones struggles in first NFL start

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 15:15:37 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones was mixed in his first start Sunday, Oct. 25, against the Kansas City Chiefs. Jones lost three turnovers, including two interceptions and a lost fumble. He was 16-of-29 for 209 yards and one touchdown to WR Martavis Bryant.

Fantasy Tip: Jones ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) likely won't be in the job for much longer as Ben Roethlisberger is near coming back. He provides more mobility than Michael Vick does, but there are questions about whether his arm is strong.

Steelers | Landry Jones will receive start

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 07:06:59 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones will be the starting quarterback for the Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. It is not known if QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) or QB Tyler Murphy will serve as the No. 2 quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: Jones played well in his relief appearance last week and worked with the starting offense this week. Jones could be a cheaper option on FantasyScore, but owners may want to consider more experienced quarterbacks to use in their lineups.

Steelers | Landry Jones to start

Sat, 24 Oct 2015 16:48:32 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones will start in place of QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) Sunday, Oct. 25, against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Jones ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is a boom-or-bust FantasyScore flyer after a solid performance in the last game.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger traveling with team

Sat, 24 Oct 2015 09:35:30 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) is traveling with the team for their Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. QB Landry Jones is still expected to be the starting quarterback for the game.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) is expected to miss the game, but owners will need to check the inactive list to see what his status is for the game. Jones ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) played well in relief in Week 6 but may not be the best option for fantasy owners this week.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger unlikely to play

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 11:27:09 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee), who is questionable to play in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs, is more likely to return in Week 8. If playing through pain is his only obstacle, he could suit up against the Chiefs. However, if his lateral agility is still in question, he's likely to sit out another week. Head coach Mike Tomlin said this week the team is preparing as if QB Landry Jones will make his first career start.

Fantasy Tip: If somehow Big Ben ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) does make it into the starting lineup against the Chiefs, he'd be worth a click going against a terrible KC pass defense. Jones ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is worth considering as a deep sleeper if you want to save money at quarterback.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger looking to do more

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 09:18:21 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) is expecting to increase his practice workload in his fourth week of rehab from a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee and a bone bruise. He said he's "excited to do a little more than I did last week," but QB Landry Jones is the likely starter in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Roethlisberger only threw in 7-on-7 sessions last week. He's been doing cardio and leg presses in the training area in the last few days. Roethlisberger's pain is not fully subsided but knee stabilization is a bigger issue right now.

Fantasy Tip: Wait at least another week before considering Big Ben ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) on FantasyScore. Jones ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is a deep sleeper candidate against a terrible Chiefs secondary.

Steelers | Landry Jones expected to start

Tue, 20 Oct 2015 10:52:09 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones is being prepared as the starter in advance of Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs because "he's the one that's healthy," according to head coach Mike Tomlin. QBs Ben Roethlisberger (knee) and Michael Vick (hamstring) will have their progress monitored to determine their availability in practice or games. Jones threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns in relief of an injured Vick in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs remain one of the best matchups for quarterbacks while giving up the third-most fantasy points per game (24.7) to the position, but Jones ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) remains more of a deep sleeper on FantasyScore.

Steelers | Wednesday telling for Big Ben

Tue, 20 Oct 2015 09:30:07 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) said how he feels Wednesday, Oct. 21, in practice will give him an idea of his availability for Week 7. QB Landry Jones is expected to see a lot of first-team repetitions. "A lot of it determines too how I feel early in practice," Roethlisberger said. "I would assume that Landry and I will kind of split the first reps with the first period and if it feels good in the first period, we'll probably continue that way. If for some reason it doesn't feel quite right or if I don't feel 100% about it, then I don't want to just be out there taking reps away from Landry just because. He's going to need to get all the reps he can. It's going to have to be a feel thing, a comfort level. Can I make moves in the pocket? Does it hurt when I drop back from under center? Does it hurt when I roll out to the left, to the right? Sliding up in the pocket after a deep-set off a play-action fake. Just things like that because obviously I threw last week and it felt good throwing, so that part we can check that box off and we'll just continue, when I go out there kind of as practice progresses, see what I can and can't do."

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) would have a tough matchup against a stout Kansas City Chiefs defense. Jones ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) could be a boom-or-bust option on FantasyScore if Roethlisberger can't play.

Steelers | Landry Jones stellar in relief

Mon, 19 Oct 2015 07:43:04 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones had a 149.3 passer rating Sunday, Oct. 18, which was the second-highest quarterback debut ever with a minimum of 10 attempts, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

Fantasy Tip: Jones was 8-for-12 for 168 yards and two touchdowns after Michael Vick (hamstring) went down. Ben Roethlisberger (knee) has a chance to return this week, so Jones probably won't be a good FantasyScore option against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7.
