Steelers | Landry Jones highly regarded in Pittsburgh

Wed, 15 Feb 2017 21:53:09 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent QB Landry Jones is viewed among the top backups in the NFL by the Steelers' decision-makers, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writer Gerry Dulac. Jones is viewed as being better than "80 percent of the other backups" by the Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Jones probably won't draw much attention on the open market, and re-signing with the Steelers could be in the best interest of his long-term goals given Ben Roethlisberger's age and injury history.

Steelers | Landry Jones solid in relief

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 14:31:01 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones threw for 277 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown pass to Cobi Hamilton with 2:57 left in overtime, in a 27-24 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: All the Steelers wanted was someone to hold the team together for one week, and they got it. Jones has been respectable in place of Ben Roethlisberger and doesn't make a bad replacement QB in weekly contests. He has no value in full-season leagues, obviously.

Steelers | Landry Jones to face Cleveland

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 08:53:04 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones will start Week 17's game against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is receiving the starting nod because it's a meaningless regular-season game and the Steelers want to make sure Ben Roethlisberger is healthy entering the playoffs. Despite the favorable matchup, Jones should not be viewed as a viable fantasy option in any format because RB Le'Veon Bell and WR Antonio Brown will also be rested versus Cleveland.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger's status up in the air

Sun, 06 Nov 2016 07:44:49 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) remains a game-time decision for Week 9's game against the Baltimore Ravens, although team personnel believe he will play. However, the possibility exists that he could serve as the No. 2 quarterback if QB Landry Jones is named the starter.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger was a limited participant in practice throughout the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report. If he does play, he can still be viewed as a QB1, although he will probably have limited mobility. Owners should have an alternate option available in case he does not start this week.

Steelers | Pittsburgh unsure of starting QB

Sat, 05 Nov 2016 15:26:02 -0700

The Pittsburgh Steelers have not decided if QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) or QB Landry Jones will start in Week 9, and it is expected to be a game-time decision, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger was limited during practice all week but is three weeks removed from undergoing knee surgery, so owners will need to check the inactive list. Roethlisberger is a risky option because he probably will have limited mobility but can still be a No. 1 quarterback for owners if he plays. Owners should avoid Jones in all leagues if he plays.
