Sun, 19 May 2013 11:43:06 -0700 Miami Dolphins RB Mike Gillislee is expected to compete with RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas for the starting running back job during offseason workouts and training camp.
Tue, 14 May 2013 21:05:08 -0700 Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller has been working out with San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore during the offseason. Gore, a fellow University of Miami alum, counseled Miller on lessons learned in the NFL. Miller said Tuesday, May 14, he is staying at 215 pounds, but adding more muscle mass. Fantasy Tip: Miller is viewed by some as having a leg up in the competition for the starting tailback job in Miami, although Daniel Thomas is not ready to go quietly. Whoever emerges as the top dog will be a low-end RB2 or flex fantasy option in most formats.
Tue, 14 May 2013 21:04:28 -0700 Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller is considered the front-runner for the starting running back job, although RB Daniel Thomas said Tuesday, May 14, that he shouldn't be overlooked. "I don't know why (Miller) would have the inside track," Thomas said. "It's an open competition. Everybody has a fair shot. The best player is going to get the job. Nobody has a leg up. I'm looking to be that guy. That's why I put the work in." Fantasy Tip: Thomas worked in Arizona with other NFL players during the offseason, working to make his legs stronger after knee surgery. He averaged 3.6 yards per tote on 91 carries last season, while Miller averaged 4.9 on 51 carries.
Tue, 19 Mar 2013 07:27:52 -0700 Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said he needs to see consistent growth from RB Lamar Miller in 2013. In particular, he needs to be more disciplined in blitz pickup.
Sun, 03 Mar 2013 10:35:39 -0800 The Miami Dolphins are not considering having RB Daniel Thomas compete with RB Lamar Miller for the starting running back job next season and are not expected to sign a veteran running back to compete with Miller. The team likes Miller's ability to make jump-cut moves, which allows him to get to the second level in the team's zone-blocking scheme.
Mon, 11 Feb 2013 08:29:05 -0800 The Miami Dolphins believe RB Lamar Miller showed just a glimpse of his big-play potential this past season, and the team expects him to be an every-down back in 2013. "Lamar really showed some great signs of really some explosive play opportunity," general manager Jeff Ireland said. "He kind of shoots out of the cannon when he hits the hole. He's got very good hands. I thought he did a very good job in his pass protection, which keeps him on the field all three downs."
Sun, 10 Feb 2013 10:33:45 -0800 Miami Dolphins impending free-agent RB Reggie Bush could be given a limited role in the offense next season if he re-signs with the team because they are expecting big things from RB Lamar Miller in 2013.
Wed, 30 Jan 2013 09:35:56 -0800 Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller likely would be the team's starting running back if impending free-agent RB Reggie Bush does not return.
Mon, 14 Jan 2013 17:28:30 -0800 Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller has surpassed RB Daniel Thomas in the organization's eyes. Thomas' three fumbles this year were the most by a running back with fewer than 100 carries. Only four other backs had a lower per-carry average than Thomas' 3.6 yards, too.
Mon, 24 Dec 2012 12:27:34 -0800 Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland is excited about the possibility of RB Lamar Miller receiving a bigger role in the offense next season.

Wed, 19 Dec 2012 12:20:55 -0800 Miami Dolphins RB Reggie Bush, RB Lamar Miller and FB Jorvorskie Lane are options to receive the goal line carries in the final two games of the season. RB Daniel Thomas (knee) handled the role this season but has been placed on Injured Reserve.
Fri, 14 Dec 2012 10:03:05 -0800 Miami Dolphins RB Reggie Bush is unlikely to return to the team next season. He has little confidence that he'll be back in Miami for the 2013 season. "It's a little uneasy and unsure, but at the same time, exciting, because you know there are opportunities out there. I'd love to stay here, but part of me says, 'well, there's nothing been on the table quite yet.' I'm remaining optimistic," Bush said. He'll be a free agent after this season. RBs Daniel Thomas and Lamar Miller wait in the wings if Bush isn't brought back.

Tue, 09 Oct 2012 13:28:48 -0700 Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller didn't play in a single offensive snap in Week 5, but he could be used more often with RB Daniel Thomas (concussion) leaving the game with his second concussion in five weeks. The team hasn't been happy with Miller's awareness on the field so far, though, and his pass blocking hasn't been good.
Mon, 01 Oct 2012 19:40:04 -0700 Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said Monday, Oct. 1, that he and the coaching staff will choose between RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas depending on matchups. Mon, 01 Oct 2012 10:33:01 -0700 The Miami Dolphins appeared to limit RB Reggie Bush's workload in Week 4 because of his knee injury. RB Daniel Thomas and Lamar Miller received more playing time than usual during the game. Bush finished the game with 67 yards on 17 carries.
Sun, 30 Sep 2012 18:42:51 -0700 Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas carried just four times for four yards in Week 4 against the Arizona Cardinals, and he had one catch for six yards. RB Lamar Miller wasn't much better, posting 13 yards on four totes. Fantasy Tip: As long as Reggie Bush is healthy, and his knee appeared to hold up against a tough defense, neither Thomas or Miller are worth starting in most fantasy leagues.

He did not receive a carry in the fourth quarter as the team opted with RB Daniel Thomas, even though he had a fumble. "We wanted to give Lamar an opportunity once we thought Reggie couldn't play effectively," head coach Joe Philbin said. "We have two guys, we think a lot of both and we think they're both capable of playing. Some of it was dictated by situation, but some of it was spreading the carries around."

Sun, 29 Jul 2012 17:48:45 -0700 Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said he is not committed to any specific number of times a running back needs to touch the football this season. When asked if he prefers a feature back or a committee approach, Philbin said: "I'm not locked into one guy carrying the ball 23 times and the next guy carrying it seven. You want a guy to touch the football X-amount of times because those guys have a higher chance of getting yourself a big play, but I'm not locked into any one formula." RBs Reggie Bush, Daniel Thomas, Steve Slaton and rookie Lamar Miller are all jockeying for playing time during training camp.
Sun, 22 Jul 2012 11:45:46 -0700 Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas may be pushed by RBs Lamar Miller and Steve Slaton for the No. 2 running back job if he is not able to improve on his 3.5 yards per carry and his yards after contact which ranked fifth worst among NFL running backs last season.

Mon, 07 May 2012 05:48:26 -0700 The Miami Dolphins could eventually use RB Lamar Miller as a wide receiver and take advantage of his speed. "There's a chance down the road, as Lamar gets acclimated, that he might be able to spread himself a ways as a receiver to a certain degree," said head coach Joe Philbin. "I'm not saying make a full position change, but I think there's some flexibility with what you can do with the guy."

Sat, 28 Apr 2012 10:12:31 -0700 The Miami Dolphins taking RB Lamar Miller in the fourth round of the NFL Draft appears to be a "best available player" selection considering they still have needs at the wide receiver position. The Dolphins have RBs Reggie Bush and second-year Daniel Thomas as their top two backs, with Bush coming off a 1,000-yard season. Miller will potentially be the team's third running back on the depth chart.

"There isn't a lot of strength at the position, but I can see a team taking James because he runs well, and saying, 'OK, he's situational, but in our offense, he'll get enough snaps to justify taking him in the first round.'"
