Rams | Missed out on top options but still have plan in place

Fri, 27 Apr 2012 09:56:44 -0700

The St. Louis Rams were interested in RB Trent Richardson and WR Justin Blackmon during the first round of the NFL Draft, but both players went before them. Head coach Jeff Fisher said the team was a little surprised the Cleveland Browns worked out a pre-draft trade to move up one spot and land Richardson. The Jacksonville Jaguars then traded ahead of the Rams to land Blackmon. WR Michael Floyd also made sense for the Rams at No. 14 after they traded back, but the Arizona Cardinals moved up and drafted him before the Rams. "Remember it's a seven-round draft. We do have a plan for wide receiver and multiple other positions. We were comfortable in what happened, I can tell you that," general manager Les Snead said on missing out on several top options.

Jaguars | Justin Blackmon selected fifth overall

Thu, 26 Apr 2012 17:39:14 -0700

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Oklahoma State WR Justin Blackmon with the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: The Jags have in many ways failed to provide its passers with a true No. 1 wideout. This regime has kind of tied its fortunes to Blaine Gabbert's vessel, so moving up (in a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) to No. 5 to nab what many considered the No. 1 prospect at the position was an aggressive but understandable move. more »
