Seattle Mariners SS Brendan Ryan is out of the lineup again Tuesday, May 15, and C John Jaso is hitting second in the batting order. Ryan is hitting just .140 and has been replaced by SS Munenori Kawasaki.

Seattle Mariners SS Brendan Ryan was a healthy scratch from the lineup Tuesday, April 10, and he'll be replaced by SS Munenori Kawasaki. Ryan said his stiff neck is no longer an issue.

The Seattle Mariners purchased the contracts of SS Munenori Kawasaki and Ps Kevin Millwood and Erasmo Ramirez from the minors Monday, March 26, and sent OF Carlos Peguero and P Chance Ruffin to the minors in corresponding moves.

Seattle Mariners SS Munenori Kawasaki is fitting in and entertaining his teammates with his voice on the field, which seems several decibels louder than anyone else doing drills. He and SS Brendan Ryan are the most talkative players in camp. "It's funny to watch people react to how I see myself," Ryan said. "It's a weird, third-person type of feel. I don't know how to describe that. It kind of makes you think."

Seattle Mariners 3B Kyle Seager has a good chance of starting in the minors if 3B Chone Figgins is named the everyday starting third baseman. Seager has been asked to play other infield positions to increase his versatility, but he'll be competing with INFs Carlos Guillen, Munenori Kawasaki and Luis Rodriguez for a backup job. 3B Alex Liddi is also in the mix.

The Seattle Mariners officially signed Japanese League SS Munenori Kawasaki Wednesday, Jan. 11. The eight-time All-Star in Japan's Pacific League is expected to compete for a job in spring training. "Being able to add a player with the resume that Kawasaki possesses is very good news for the Mariners," general manager Jack Zduriencik said. "We are looking forward to having him compete for a Major League position in spring training. He is a high-energy player with a record of success in Japan."

The Seattle Mariners signed Japanese League SS Munenori Kawasaki to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Kawasaki, 30, hits left-handed, like OF Ichiro Suzuki, and is said to have a similar "slap and run" batting style. Kawasaki is regarded as a strong defensive player with good range.
