Brewers | No Ryan Braun, Jonathan Lucroy

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 13:12:02 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun (back) and C Jonathan Lucroy (rest) are out of the lineup Wednesday, July 9, against the Philadelphia Phillies. SS Jean Segura is batting second, and 2B Scooter Gennett is hitting third.

Fantasy Tip: This makes back-to-back missed games for Braun. Fantasy owners should be considering adding an additional outfielder to platoon with Braun when he isn't starting, if you haven't done so already. Catchers rarely start day games after starting the night before, so there is no concern for Lucroy going forward.

Brewers | No Ryan Braun

Tue, 08 Jul 2014 12:58:22 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun (back) is out of the starting lineup Tuesday, July 8, against the Philadelphia Phillies. OF Carlos Gomez is hitting leadoff and 2B Scooter Gennett is batting second.

Fantasy Tip: Remove Braun from your daily lineups. He was in the lineup yesterday, so he is likely just getting a precautionary rest day.

Brewers | Scooter Gennett still a platoon player

Thu, 26 Jun 2014 21:11:34 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers 2B Scooter Gennett was not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 26, against Colorado Rockies SP Christian Friedrich, and manager Ron Roenicke gave no indication that he would change the platoon rotation that has Gennett starting against righties and 2B Rickie Weeks starting against lefties.

Fantasy Tip: Gennett did pinch hit later in the game and hit a home run, boosting his average to .311 in what has been an excellent season at the plate overall. That being said, his value is going to continue to be curbed in standard formats unless he can shake his platoon status.

Brewers | Scooter Gennett batting leadoff

Tue, 10 Jun 2014 13:34:58 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers 2B Scooter Gennett is batting leadoff against the New York Mets Tuesday, June 10.

Fantasy Tip: It will be the first time Gennett leads off for the Brewers this season. The team has been searching for a leadoff hitter since they dealt Norichika Aoki. If Gennett can stick, his fantasy stock should rise, especially his run-scoring potential.

Brewers | Rickie Weeks makes mechanical adjustment

Tue, 04 Mar 2014 18:28:17 -0800

Milwaukee Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks has made some mechanical adjustment to his stance this swing, and manager Ron Roenicke is loving the early returns in camp. Weeks had consistently kept his hands low in his stance, but now, he's altered the position of his hands after input from former minor league hitting coach Nate Oliver. "Keeping things smooth, really," Weeks said when asked to describe the tweak. "If you keep it smooth, everything kind of falls into place. The biggest thing is slowing down. My hands are a tad bit higher. It's a minute (difference)."

He's gone 4-for-9 with a home run and four walks in his first four spring games and is feeling great at the dish. He's also in the final year of his contract and is in a battle for playing time at second base with 2B Scooter Gennett. The Brewers are saying the keystone is an open competition. Milwaukee may decide to trade one of their second baseman later in camp, or they could go with a platoon.

Brewers | Open competition at 2B

Thu, 20 Feb 2014 08:49:29 -0800

Milwaukee Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks and Scooter Gennett are set for an open competition at second base this spring. Weeks is a full go after rehab following surgery last year for a hamstring injury. "The only setback I probably had was I started out too early, too fast. You know me -- I wanted to go out there and run right off," Weeks said. Manager Ron Roenicke could see a scenario where both players see playing time, especially during interleague series.

Fantasy Tip: Gennett is believed to have a leg up in the competition; Weeks will really have to prove he's healthy in order to have a shot. In the long run, neither is very attractive in mixed formats, but the winner could be worthy of an NL-only spot as middle infield depth.

Brewers | Rickie Weeks has surgery

Thu, 15 Aug 2013 13:45:59 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks (hamstring) underwent successful surgery on his left hamstring Thursday, Aug. 15, and he'll need four to six months of rehab.

Fantasy Tip: Scooter Gennett has taken over at second base for Weeks and should be considered in cavernous mixed formats for middle infield depth.
