Chicago Cubs INF Junior Lake (shoulder) is out with a stress fracture to the top rip on his right side. Lake will be out four to six weeks.

The Chicago Cubs sent Ps Jeff Beliveau, Alberto Cabrera and John Gaub and INF Josh Vitters to Triple-A Iowa Thursday, March 15. INF Junior Lake and OF Matt Szczur were optioned to Double-A Tennessee. C Jason Jaramillo was also assigned to the minors.

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro will make $567,000 this year, P Jeff Samardzija will earn $2.64 million, SP Travis Wood will earn $505,000 and 2B Darwin Barney will make $500,000. RP James Russell signed for $512,000. Others that received one-year deals include Ps Alberto Cabrera, Lendy Castillo, Casey Coleman, Rafael Dolis, Marcos Mateo, Casey Weathers, Jeff Beliveau, John Gaub and Scott Maine, Cs Welington Castillo and Steve Clevenger, INFs Adrian Cardenas, Bryan LaHair, Junior Lake, Anthony Rizzo and Josh Vitters and OFs Tony Campana, Dave Sappelt and Matt Szczur.

The Chicago Cubs added P Jeff Beliveau, INF Junior Lake, IF Josh Vitters and OF Matt Szczur to their 40-man roster Friday, Nov. 18, and outrighted OF Lou Montanez, P Esmailin Caridad and P Kyle Smit to the minors in corresponding moves.
