Cleveland Indians SPs Trevor Bauer, Josh Tomlin, Carlos Carrasco and Aaron Harang have all pitched well so far this spring and are making the competition for the final two rotation spots, depending on what happens with SP Danny Salazar, an interesting decision. Bauer is showing more control and is throwing harder than he did last spring.

The Cleveland Indians have high hopes for SP Danny Salazar in 2014, and they believe he can make up for the loss of SPs Ubaldo Jimenez and Scott Kazmir. Pitching coach Mickey Callaway said the most important thing for Salazar this season will be to learn the ins and outs of the Major League routine, which will help him navigate his way through a full season. General manager Chris Antonetti said the plan is for Salazar to make at least 30 starts, and he will likely be slotted in the second or third spot of the rotation behind staff leader SP Justin Masterson. The team feels Salazar will benefit from no longer worrying about pitch counts or innings limits.
Fantasy Tip: Salazar gave fantasy owners glimpses of brilliance down the stretch last season, and he enters the new season with high hopes for those in keeper formats. He will be a must-have in AL-only fantasy leagues, and could emerge as a must-start in all mixed formats if he pitches to his capabilities.

Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar allowed four hits over 3 2/3 scoreless innings in a start against the Chicago White Sox Friday, Sept. 13, with two walks and nine strikeouts. However, he was removed from the game because he was on a pitch count of 85. Salazar actually threw 78 pitches in the game, 51 of which were strikes.

Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar will take SP Corey Kluber's (finger) spot in the starting rotation, and the Tribe doesn't feel the need to limit Salazar's innings down the stretch.
Fantasy Tip: Salazar should be added in all AL-only leagues, and he's definitely worth consideration in deep mixed leagues if he pitches well and retains the spot. Salazar throws in the upper-90s and has high strikeout upside.

The Cleveland Indians optioned P Matt Langwell to Triple-A Columbus Wednesday, Aug. 7, to make room on the roster for SP Danny Salazar.

Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber (finger) could miss the rest of the season with a sprained right middle finger. SP Zach McAllister spent six weeks on the disabled list with a middle finger sprain earlier this year. Kluber was 7-5 with a 3.54 ERA in 19 starts this year. SP Danny Salazar will take Kluber's place in the rotation, starting against the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, Aug. 7.
Fantasy Tip: Kluber can likely be dropped in most shallow leagues. Salazar should be a target in AL-only universes, but the fact that he'll be shut down before the end of the year to limit his innings will keep him relegated to single-league formats.
