The Chicago Cubs are shooting down reports that they have reached a deal with Cuban OF Jorge Soler. "The rumors that we have a deal with him are completely bogus," general manager Jed Hoyer said. Soler isn't even officially listed as a free agent because he's trying to establish residency in the Dominican Republic. Insiders expect him to become a free agent by the July 2 deadline to avoid signing-bonus restrictions, but nobody knows an exact time for when it might happen.

The Philadelphia Phillies are interested in Cuban OF Jorge Soler. The 19-year-old outfielder, who worked out for the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, Feb. 15, has a host of teams interested in his services, including the Chicago Cubs, Miami Marlins, New York Yankees and Texas Rangers, among others. He remains ineligible to sign a deal because his paperwork hasn't been approved.

The Chicago Cubs are reportedly the frontrunners for the services of Cuban OF Jorge Soler, who has not yet been declared a free agent due to a hold-up with his paperwork. The team is expected to want a longer deal than four years, with the dollars in the range of $27.5 million. A report that the team struck a four-year deal war erroneous, although the money figure is reportedly in the neighborhood, but the years are likely off.
