He allowed a career-high five walks while striking out five batters. Ryu failed to last at least six innings for the first time in nine starts.

Ryu allowed three hits and two earned runs while walking two in the 105-pitch outing. His 12 punchouts were the most by a rookie in team history since SP Hideo Nomo struck out 13 back in 1995.

"(Koufax) was teaching me how to throw a curveball, but I guess it didn't really work today," Ryu said with a smile. "But I'll continue practicing." Ryu said he continues to work on his diet and hopes to lose some more weight. He'll receive his first spring start Friday, March 1.
